Ran into an ancient lich in the crypt. Got sent straight to Abyss 5. The rune was about 7 tiles away and as soon as I grabbed it, an exit from the Abyss spawned. Probably spent less than 100 turns there and didn't even see a single malmutator. Not gonna complain about that.

Oh and I just got Spellforged Servitor up and running with Orb of Destruction + Iron shot as the only available spells on my MiFi^Ash. First time ever using it and I'm in love. So fun to watch a conga line of orbs smash into enemies. Should I memorize anything else for it? I have a few spell levels I could open up if there's something worthwhile.

Edit: On the other hand, I still haven't found spectral weapon or regen... maybe I should save those spell levels.

I 15 runed a TrMo a couple weeks ago and haven't really played crawl since, but I've been reading the thread regardless. My question is, what role does the Monk class occupy? I've seen you guys post your Win screens and it seems inevitably that the monks winning have:
- A weapon, or at least weapon skills
- Usually chain or heavier armour

When I first started way back when (first version where Tiles were introduced, don't remember what that was) the impression I got was a monk was supposed to be a light armour/no weapon kind of spell-using badass, but it seems they're never played that way. Even the wiki quote kind of implies this:

Maybe it's just me, but the only monks I've ascended are MiMo w/ Lajatang back when that was a recipe for success, FoMo/TrMo/DsMO (with the right mutations) as blender murder machines, and GrMo just because Gr* is a melee win button. Are monks just fighters with a different aptitude set and a piety bonus? Or do you guys play them differently?

They recently got changed to having a choice of below grade weapons. Used to be they always started unarmed. The appeal is the piety and maybe the dodging focus.

Yea the addition of starting weapons made monk a pretty good class for melee/projectile dudes who depend on god abilities.

A crab race would require a facing mechanic: crabs move slowly "forward" and "backwards", normal speed on diagonals, and fast on the horizontals.

Alternatively: Crab Form spell as a buff, larger, amphibious spider form variant

Alternative to the Alternative: The Hermitage, a portal subbranch often found in shoals, the armor equivalent to Elf/Hall of Blades' weapons and Desolation of Salt's artefacts (All sorts of crabs wearing/living in armor and helmets)

Well, finished my MiFi^Ash with 4 runes. I was going to try to do some more of extended, but I completely botched a fight with some orbs of fire on Z5 and ended up with a pretty nasty set of mutations (blurred vision, teleportitis, etc.) that I couldn't cure. Still, had a lot of fun being a super tanky fighter with really good summons. Spellforged Servitor and shadow creatures are probably my two favorite spells in the game. It's my first win since I've been back, so that feels nice despite the misplays at the end.

Think it's time to play some DsCK.

Give them a thing where after the crab has moved 10 (However many) spaces in one direction they get a small movespeed boost to represent the crab turning sideways and scuttling in the right direction.

If you can tank V5, you can tank Zot, especially with rF+++. The biggest thing to worry about is getting malmutated.

He could win as-is, sure. You might want to consider dropping the buckler and going for a great mace to kill the big nasties faster, or wearing a normal sized shield since you have 15 Shields already. If you can get your Magic Resistance up a bit, maybe go to the end of Elf to look for some more gear. But yea, you're fine.
