Holy gently caress, whoever did the sound mixing for the end of chapter 13 should never work in the industry again. the Ardyn monologue when nocts arm is stuck in the crystal and all you can hear is noct grunting and groaning while Ardyn explains the only motivations you've heard so far in the entire game for what he's been doing.. errgh, arrgh, grunt, errgh

Now I kinda hope they just gradually patch in a ton of narrative content so that a few years from now when I randomly feel like replaying this, it will feel like a totally different game.

The "new character creation" thing is weird as hell - I'm guessing it's something you wouldn't be able to access until postgame when it doesn't really matter, because otherwise how would that even work? Though it would be pretty funny if there's just some random 5th wheel dude hanging around the party who literally never gets brought up in any cutscenes or banter.

echronorian posted:Goon opinion on this game after being out a while? It's good, kinda. Only up to chapter 6 but 60 hours played because I've done nearly all the side content available to me and even spent most of today grinding ap just because. I like the combat. I have 100% bought in to the road trip aspect of the game. I love the camping out, the food porn, fishing, prompto's photo's, and the general breezy tone of the interactions between the 4 main characters. I think the equipment and skill trees are pretty good for character customization. Driving around in your sweet ride while listening to FF music might be my favorite thing in the series. The original music is also really good Everything else sucks to varying degrees. Camera sucks. Story sucks. Both the sidequests and open world of the game are less interesting and just generically worse than Dragon Age Inquisitions. The lovely pinball game sucks and is my least favorite side-game in the series. The dungeons are mostly uninteresting caves. Monster variety is sparse. Graphics are good on the whole but there are some issues that really stand out and detract from the experience, such as the mouths not really being animated when people talk, or some of the far off textures looking particularly lovely. Also, I am certain I would hate this game if I didn't have my ps4 in the same room as my pc so I can gently caress around on my computer while being driven somewhere. Still, if you asked me to stick a numerical value to it like a reviewer might, I'd probably give it an 8/10. For all the things that are janky, hosed up, or otherwise objectively lovely, I still have liked it quite a bit and generally feel pretty positive about it.

Is it just me or is unique avatar creation like the absolute last thing they should be worrying about adding to the game? That's the type of terrible prioritizing that led to all of the issues people have with this game in the first place. I can't wait the Iris & Aranaea Demon Huntresses dlc.

Honestly seeing that roadmap kind of makes me want to put this down until some of those changes come up. Like there are ten straight pages in this thread complaining about Chapter 13 so if they are going to go back and improve that...

Yeah, I just finished chapter 13 :/ would have been nice to have tried it after. Honestly though, 13 is a bland slog but it's not more than like 2 hours of slog maybe? It's not the worst thing ever but it is questionable why they felt it needed to be as long as it was.

Honestly the change they are talking about really doesn't even address the issue with 13, which is that it's just way too long. It has cool bits that just overstay their welcome or get sandwiched between really boring, tedious sections. The change will help a little bit, I guess, but it's really not worth holding off for imo, unless they are making more changes to it than they've indicated.

Really hope SE sticks with the same engine whenever FFXVI or whatever comes out. It isn't perfect, but it loving works. One of the first 3d FF games I've played that is just good. All they need to do is populate the empty spaces to make the game feel less like Oblivion, add more towns/cities, clean up the graphics, clean up the controls+camera, and not gently caress up the story. I guess that still might be a lot to ask for, but not if they are redesigning the entire game engine and core systems from the ground up. Hopefully SE doesn't take 10 years re-inventing the wheel with a BRAND NEW TOOLSET FUBULA NOOVALA CRYSTALIS ENGINE ELITE PRO SUPER, a whole new combat system, new this, new that, crazy Japanese devs team leads+ Japanese "salary man" culture, new random feature that will probably get obliterated by new dev team lead after 2 years of work, etc. How to print bank: Take FF Tactics universe Take FFXV engine Add together Add decent project manager that keeps everyone on track and prevents the "masterminds" from going completely off the rails.

Kingsglaive is visually pretty but is otherwise dumb and boring and will help understand pretty much nothing that the game doesn't already tell you. Brotherhood, on the other hand, is cool and tells you more about the bros and their relationships.

The Costlemark dungeon is really something. A series of escalating fights leading up to a gauntlet of enemies that first consists of some Flans and a Red Giant then eventually escalates into loving 3 of them and that snake daemon that toads and petrifies you. Is there an easy way to deal with Red Giants aside from magic? They have way too much HP and their resistances to EVERYTHING makes it such a slog.

They likely are going to, just because it's sort of an internal rule at Square. Final Fantasy is not allowed to just be "The same game the last one was." Even if you have popular elements, they must be redone. Even if the next game is an action RPG, it must be looked at from the ground up. Maybe they wont, and I think that would be a misstep. One thing Square does different to any other publisher is being unwilling to let their main franchise simply be the same game over because they sat on a formula that worked, for better or worse, they always try to do something different.

A series of escalating fights leading up to a gauntlet of enemies that first consists of some Flans and a Red Giant then eventually escalates into loving 3 of them and that snake daemon that toads and petrifies you. They have a sword chop move that can be blocked, parried, and then you get a counter prompt that lets you run up their sword and smack them in the face for a lot of damage. The counter is by far the best damage you can deal to them, but getting them to use that move is kinda tricky, especially when the other ones are spamming that gravity pull. It's still not fast, but it's way better than the alternative. Also check to see if you have any weapons that say they deal extra damage to demons. I know there's a sword and greatsword that do, I assume all the weapon classes have one, but I haven't found them all yet. Honestly though, slapping on some +mag accessories, getting them bunched up, and using a really strong spell is the most consistent way to deal damage to them. It's a very rough slog of a dungeon no matter what. Or give in and turn in on easy mode I guess. Even then it probably takes a while, they just have absurd health pools.

I look forward to whatever they plan to do with the next Final Fantasy. The only ones I hate the battle systems for are 2 and 13, which are coincidentally my least favorite Final Fantasies. I'd love to see more of XV's combat, but I think that would be well-suited to a direct sequel where they could add onto the lore. It would be nice to be able to explore more of Eos.
