I don't know a ton about Chapman but his slider seems to be poo poo and when his fastball was only hitting 99-100, teams were hitting him. He's dominant when he's on but he just feels like a guy who becomes really mediocre if he loses a few miles on that fastball.

I mean he got his last three outs in the World Series throwing nothing but sliders. As long as he doesn't fall apart in the next 2-3 years the deal is fine

I guess the scouts saw what everybody else saw in Giolito during his time in the majors. Nats lineup will be really interesting with Turner/Eaton/Murphy and hopefully Harper in MVP form behind them. Would've liked to have kept Lopez, but at the same time Giolito looked really awful last year in basically every facet and it wouldn't have been worth it for the White Sox. A lot of that was the hype but..man. He just didn't look anywhere close to big league ready. Santheb fucked around with this message at 08:17 on Dec 8, 2016 |

If he loses a tick off his velocity he becomes pretty drat hittable because he doesn't throw much else. His control is already pretty shaky but he gets around it by getting guys to start their swing early and miss on terrible pitches out of the zone. See: World Series Game 7

The MLB portion of the Rule V draft is over. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2016-rule-5-draft-results.html V: The Padres are filling in their roster with an infielder from the Cardinals who hasn't played above rookie ball and are rumored to be getting the Twins' pick, a pitcher who hasn't pitched above A ball. It looks like A.J. Preller is still trying to win at his OOTP MLB game.

In a pure baseball move, I love the chapman deal. Guy's an elite arm and the yankees have infinite money. However, He is also a shithead and that makes me feel very complicated. Also a friendly reminder that the Yankees have about 74 million coming off the books next offseason. They are gonna be big time spenders again soon enough.

Rule 5 guys have to stay on the 25-man all season, so their empty 40-man doesn't factor in much. They'd have to be willing to pretty much burn a roster spot to keep Torrens. Which who knows, maybe they are. It is the Padres. I think Webb has a very good chance of sticking on Pittsburg though. Also not to mention, this team won 84 games last year with a completely poo poo offense. If Sanchez puts in a full good year, Bird is close to his 2015 level, Halliday mashes some taters and one of their new outfield guys hits, they are going to have a servicible offense and compete for like 87-90 wins, which is a playoff birth.
