I remember there was some kind of weird instant-death condition with certain weapons in the first DR. Sledgehammers were really bad about it. I went to pummel Burt in that hardware store at the start of the game and accidentally ended up crushing his skull.

yo if you don't accidentally kill one survivor with the sledgehammer you're not playing the game right

I mean, think of all the cool stuff they can do with "next gen" power: get rid of the survivor limit (or at least work around it easier), dynamically deform the environment as the game continues, have crazy amounts of drone weapons or other large-scale AI stuff, and just generally go hog wild with making it seem like an open-world simulation of the weirdest 72 hours of somebody's life.

watching an LP of this, why the hell does frank sound like he's had a nose cold since 2006wikipedia posted:Terence J. Rotolo did not return to voice Frank West, with Dead Rising asset manager Trant Lee-Aimes stating, "We wanted to work with someone to provide a more grizzled, older take on Frank at this stage."[11] This change proved controversial among some fans, leading them to petition the developer to restore Rotolo as West ..oh.

It's things like that that really make it obvious the developers don't get what people have liked about the series. If people wanted grizzled badass then they wouldn't want Frank. Give us the dorky awkward photojournalist.

that's the problem, they didn't want a goofy frank so they got a new voice actor to make a more bad-rear end, action-movie frank and then they made him a doofus anyway lol

I think it's mostly that the team wanted that, what they want and what they deliver is mostly going to be different. But it really painted a lot of perceptions before the game even came out. Still we ended up with goofy Frank so then I ask what was the point of the change?

It could be a lot of things, not least of which was that DR4 had what looks to be a largely new primary team on it, so they decided to go their own way and hire some other guy they liked. What's funny is that I just looked at Rotolo's IMDB page and he's just about exactly Frank's age; he just turned 50. Funny story: I met Rotolo five years ago when Capcom was showing off OTR at E3. The voice he uses for Frank is just about exactly his own voice, which is weird to hear coming out of an actual living human.

Well see it's a different kind of goofy Frank now. Now he's hip and with it and Goofy in all the committee approved ways that a man who looks like this http://www.vancitybuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/PORTRAIT-1-900x600.jpg EDIT: Not at home, can't rehost on imgur thinks a goofy character needs to be. The thing I liked the best about TJ was that he was such a random and crazy choice. Like the only thing Video Game wise I've heard him in was Dead Rising, like he's not a notable voice actor so I don't think he's taking a paycheck from anyone and the new guy they got apparently has only one credit which is DR4. So like to me it might be they didn't have the budget for the guy, unfortunately.

So like to me it might be they didn't have the budget for the guy, unfortunately. Rotolo's a stuntman by trade, but he's worked on a lot of tokusatsu shows and there was a lot of crossover between Capcom's writing staff and toku for a while; Dai Sato, for example, wrote a bunch of toku as well as both Resident Evil: Revelations games. I figured that explained it as well as anything. One of the things about voice acting that's a little weird, especially on recent Capcom projects, is that some jobs are non-union, so actors will use a pseudonym and take them anyway. That was the case with Revelations 2, where most of the cast were recognizable actors using vague stage names. ("James Baker," who voiced Claire, is apparently Ali "Lightning/Liara" Hillis.) In DR4, "Victor Nosslo" is currently thought to be the Canadian actor Ty Olsson.

Frank's voice was cool, he had that nasal element that made his incredulity seem real. His voice getting changed for no real reason and with a bullshit excuse is just one more sign that the devs have no idea what they're doing with the franchise.

Has anyone played through Dead Rising 2 on the PC recently enough to know if it's aged particularly well, or if the co-op is still functional? I'm tempted to play it again but don't want to waste my time if it doesn't really hold up technically.

Got a copy for my dad since he loved DR3 and state of decay and broke it in with him tonight, jesus christ, they REALLY want you to hate Frank don't they? Him laughing about unleashing zombies to kill people in the opening, to only caring about getting paid...Ugh. The actual zombie killing was alright but it crashed like 15mins into the mall proper and i didn't really care enough to play it some more. Also great that he makes annoyed quips when you try to rescue survivors, these writers really 'get' Frank. His stupid quips in general are really annoying and nothing like Frank at all. a "that's what she said" joke in 2016 as well. Ibram Gaunt fucked around with this message at 01:29 on Dec 9, 2016 |

I buckled and bought it. It's not Dead Rising, but I'm having a bit of fun anyway. It's more like Final Fight meets Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, I guess. The zombies being relentless is a pain in the dick sometimes, they kite to you from a crazy distance so window shopping can be a pain in the dick. Also, anyone know where the key is in Hamburger Fiefdom? The map says its right in the entrance, but I can't find it. Edit: Map said it was on the ground floor. It's not. Bought DR4 for the PC and while the graphics are fine, the audio is totally buggered. It's like the center channel (even though my headphones aren't set to 7.1) is missing, so dialog either sounds like it's coming from down a long hallway, or it's completely missing. Reinstalled DR3 and DR2:OTR to try and satisfy my zombie-killing urges until they manage to patch it.
