I'm pretty sure getting Latherflash's name wrong is a sport. Or at least that's why I keep coming up with dumb misreadings of it.

Indeed, this one from an anonymous Secret Santa who claims that no kiwi fruits (to which I am tragically allergic) were harmed in the shipping of this gift except for sport. That's the Argent Summer Break mini-expansion there if my phone's lovely resolution doesn't make it very clear. Thank you, mystery Santa number two!

And so now I have two Santas who need to get in touch with me or Leperflesh with regards to the charitable donations I need to make in your name. I need the charities you'd prefer and the amount you paid for your gifts so that I can match them, or alternately you can go through Leperflesh on both counts if you wish to maintain your anonymity and/or not discuss dollar values in semi-public.

Well I've made a donation to Doctors Without Borders and RAINN so let's spread the love around a bit and make this out to The Trevor Project, a charity that provides crisis hotline services to GLBT youth.

A package that I didn't order arrived today!

Inspection dog pointed out a drawing of a rabbit, made with a suspicious white substance; clearly Goon handiwork.

Giant packing balloons, our favourite! Thanks Santa!

Wait, there's more under the balloons... does that say dog :aaa:

Arts too!

Inspection dog Casper opened his first... and made a new friend, Morton the Moose!

Armadas, Gundams, and a book on sword smithing I wanted! Thanks Santa and Walter! Gonna put those Walter pieces on my beer fridge :3:

Patchwork, along with Patchistory, was actually one of these games I kind of considered for few months, but never really bothered to seal the deal on. Guess it's fate! Upon browsing the rules properly, it seems like something I could rope my mom into playing.

The Stargazer Manor, on the other hand, is apparently an escape the room-style bag of puzzles in a box proved shamefully tricky to open. Wild stuff! It's making me reconsider throwing a new year's eve party!

Thanks a lot, Santa! Seems like a lot of fun to look forward to!

Woah, hey! I have that Hrisoulas book. It's really good. If you're getting into bladesmithing and metalwork, here are the relevant threads that you should post in, if you're not already:

This one Blacksmithing / Metalwork: Anything involving penetration has to be anodized. gets near-daily traffic and has a broader scope, but is inclusive of blademaking and general blacksmithery.

This one The loving irritating knife-making thread. is much less frequently posted-in, but still gets updated occasionally, and is specific to blademaking.

Also, I can recommend another Hrisoulas book, The Pattern-Welded Blade, and I hear good things about his third, The Master Bladesmith: Advanced Studies in Steel.

Your Santa here! Glad you liked it. I was going to send some blade blanks for you too, but the shipping would've been crazy. There's like a half dozen knife shops in my area and a place down the road lasers out the blanks for them.

Enjoy!

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

I mean, I don't wanna butt in and speak for NTRabbit, but... blade blanks are for cold removal knifemakers. A true bladesmith smiths from stock, and that is what Hrisoulas focuses on. So it might be for the best anyway?

Making stuff like that is something I hope to do as a hobby one day so I like to read and learn about it, rather than something I'm equipped to do right now, so no foul.

Thanks for the thread tips though! And the book, it's one of those things I would have taken forever to get around to buying for myself on account of life, so choice nicely made.

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Oh cool, OK. Yeah read up. It's not too hard to get started, you can make a coal forge from an old drum brake or even just a barbecue, find a heavy piece of metal to use as an anvil, buy a hammer and a pair of tongs, and you're ready to start bashing hot metal into ugly knife-shaped objects. It's fun!

The Package Inspection Crew say whatever is in this box, its probably OK.

Hmmmmm, a metric ton of wrapped gifts, this seems like it would be hard to judge what these are without opening them.

By the power of christmas, be opened!

Ohhhhhhhh my god everything in this box is magical and perfect.

A replacement for one of my favorite party games that got shredded while I was moving cross-country, an adorably scruffy Totoro, several copies of an amazing-sounding RPG I'd never heard about involving animal lawyers and dancing and boss fights, a copy of one of the best comics I've ever read so I can loan my beat-up copy to other people, a Ninja Turtles keychain blind box with a disarmingly cute Casey Jones in it, an Eastern Mystery Treat, and holy poo poo is this a still-in-the-shrink-wrap hardcover edition of an out-of-print Marvel RPG I was talking up to someone and after I finally got them sold on it, we realized I wasn't sure where my copy was??

Oh my god its perfect, everything in here is perfect. Thank you so much!

Eastern Mystery Treat trip report: Not what I was prepared for at all! The Mystery Treat is a powder that you add water to, and it becomes foamy, sweet, and very salty. There are cones for it! It also has a teeny tiny spoon for mixing. A mysterious and delicious treat.

Oh man I am so glad that I got my grit together and joined, because this was really cool and fun.

Next time I'm wrapping my presents though. I didn't know if I should but in retrospect I really should've. :ohdearsass:

Cheer dispatched to my Santee, arriving, according to Amazon Dot Com, on Sunday. Sorry for the delay, it has been a busy bummer of a month.

I have not got any mammals to pose with it, so the pics wouldn't be that thirlling-- but my Santa got me the generous gift of the Star Wars Force and Destiny core book from Fantasy Flight. Looking forward to getting a group together and roleplaying thusly:

The gift note alluded to how roleplaying, being a group activity, was like the act of physical love. Great thought, I enjoy both Star Wars, and sex-having.

I promise you will sweat the fact that you're waiting to get your santees presents in so you can wrap and send them out while everyone else is announcing they got them.

I highly recommend wrapping gifts and putting in a letter as the extra effort doesn't take that much more of your time, but most times is very appreciated.

Not to poo poo on people who order directly! It's still nerve wracking to make sure everything is out on time, and costs more in shipping. Some people would also rather spent that shipping money on better gifts too. To each their own. But I'll be wrapping stuff when I can :D

Maybe I wouldn't for lightning round stuff, but I'm not joining one yet...

Glad you like it! Patchwork is a great family game, I've taught it to both a mom and a grandma and both demanded a rematch after their first game.

Stargazer is neat but I would not recommend playing it with more than 5, there aren't enough parts to share. I'd also recommend a long table because there's a lot of pieces that are set aside but still might be needed.

What do you mean you're out of butter?

Lichtenstein posted:

The one good thing about breaking a bone in your foot is that when you stay home is that you can lay your hands on your gifts the second a postman rings.

Curiously, that was one big-rear end package. My mind instantly begins wondering just how many dongs could be stuffed in there.

The possible dong bomb is forwarded to the gift inspector who confirms my suspicions of the rattling sound the entire package makes - like it's full of legos or something.

Well, it turns out the Amazon Prime duct tape was a red herring and there's a lot of carefully hand-packed poo poo in there.

Where to even begin?

- A collection of short stories by Roger Zelazny. You can never go wrong with Zelazny!
- The Whispered World: Special Edition. This is pretty cool, I ate my teeth on adventure and IF games, but haven't been keeping track of the games the Germans keep putting out every once in a while. I vaguely remember this getting good press back in the day and the screenshots certainly look stunning. For a second I was worried this is a German language version (and my command of that language is rusty af), but rest assured, it's multilingual.
- Southern Cross, what looks like a comic about claustrophobic spaceships and weird creepy poo poo. Looks really like my jam on a skim through.
- Chimera, some small card game I haven't heard of, but have trust in the Z-Man Deluxe series. This being (it looks like) a contemporary designed game for a slightly-tweaked traditional card deck, should help rope in some family members.
- 7 Wonders: Duel, of which I heard only great things about!
- The Valmy Campaign: a Napoleonics wargame from Against the Odds magazine publishers. I usually regard such small-publisher wargames as more of collector's items than real games (and the poser art black Napoleon cover really doesn't do it a favor), but upon rummaging through the box, it actually looks somewhat neat. The production quality is quite nice for a wargame (mounted board!), there's a battle box separate from the operational map (love that gimmick/mechanic) and counter holding boxes for Friedrich-style fog of war organized in a pleasing OOB. It also contains a bonafide Leipzig postcard wargame as a bonus! And the box doubles as a counter tray!
- Last, but not least, Inspector Morse some unholy marriage of Snakes & Ladders, Cluedo and Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective based on some posh murder mystery show. It's utterly terrible in all the right ways and I'm already cracking at the one-page rules that open with "the goal of the game is to win". I also appreciate that the three cases are based on particular episodes of the show, so actual Inspector Morse fans probably had the mysteries solved before they even unwrapped the game itself.

What can I say other than thanks a LOT, Santa? The whole box is not only very generous, funny and cool, but also I have to admit you've made some real good guesses as to my tastes! The cheer exceeded my expectations by a mile!

Glad that you liked (and hope that you enjoy the contents of) the grab-bag of goodies!

And though I know it's bad to double post, I wanted to say that something interesting arrived at my flat a few days ago (apologies for the terrible picture quality):

The Muppet Pile had to inspect the gifts, especially since one of them came wrapped in Muppet paper!

And it turned out that the lovely wrapping concealed some amazing stuff (though my doggo wasn't impressed, since it didn't contain treats):

Forbidden Desert and Sushi Go were both things that my wife and I had talked about picking up, so they're great (in fact, we're already planning to play both this weekend).

But the highlight is definitely the Encyclopedia of Imaginary Places; this is exactly my sort of thing. Have been reading during my commute, and it's awesome.

So, thank you very much Santa - I really appreciate the amazing gifts!
