I think that word has regional differences in meaning across North America.

Where I am in in the north/east (Ontario) it's definitely a dirty word, but generally on par with calling someone an rear end in a top hat or dickhead. Same as you'd use it in Britain/Australia.

But in other places (I'm thinking west & south) it's 'the most offensive word in the English language' and has a huge misogynistic undertone that just doesn't exist in my neck of the woods.
