It isn't established, actually. The fact that they don't call it a Death Star doesn't mean it isn't one. Do they actually say "no, it's not a Death Star?" Like, you're arguing that a Concorde is not a jet, because they call it a "Concorde" very clearly and show a schematic of it comparing it to a smaller passenger jet. In every way -- how it looks, what it does in the plot, how it is meant to bring new fans to the iconic imagery and old fans to their Happy Nerding Grounds, how it gets destroyed -- it is a Death Star. The second Death Star is bigger than the first, right? So it's not even distinguished by size, only by the different name.

Here's what jivjov is being obtuse about.

code:
			  MAJOR EMATT
                          (HORRIBLE MEMORIES)
           It's another Death Star.

                          POE
I wish that were the case, Major.
Poe hits a control. A WIREFRAME OF THE DEATH STAR APPEARS.

                          POE (CONT'D)
           This was the Death Star.
Poe hits another control -- the Death Star SHRINKS -- AND
SHRINKS AND SHRINKS, as the SURFACE AREA OF THE STARKILLER

BASE IS DRAWN INTO A LARGER IMAGE, REVEALING THE ENTIRE BASE
PLANET. The Death Star is a minuscule SATELLITE in
          comparison.

                          POE (CONT'D)
           This is Starkiller Base.
So one character says it's another Death Star, and Poe says actually, that's not true.

But, like...c'mon, man, you know what everyone is saying. It is essentially, and for the purposes of the story, "another Death Star".

True, which is why it's tragic when coalitions are built around the idea. Make the Republic Great Again. It's weird how many characters in this "Republic" are nobility, or have royal or feudal titles--queen, princess, count, knight.

The Separatists are libertarian capitalists who want to secede from the Republic, so that they can exploit their slaves in peace--which is why it's perfectly fitting that Count Dooku is their leader. (Dracula's a Jedi master, but no one uses that title.)

Scratch a libertarian and find a feudalist. The distinction between ideology and organization is important here, too. The antebellum South wasn't feudalist in organization, but idolized Walter Scott. Libertarian thinkers like Hans Hermann Hoppe essentially advocate for a return to feudalism; libertopians fantasize about building citadels in the middle of nowhere. So it's quite natural that Count Dracula becomes the leader of a Corporate Alliance.

Okay, one more time. I wasn't saying you called the governments feudalistic, I was pointing out that nothing in Star Wars was ever feudalistic. Dooku's secret meeting discusses something akin to NATO or the Warsaw Pact, not feudalism. There's nothing in the film that applies a filter of feudalism unless, again, you're under the incorrect assumption that nobility naturally begets feudalism.

To borrow one of your idiotisms: Are you sure you know what feudalism is? Because I feel like you have it confused with royalty.

Halloween Jack posted:

So it's quite natural that Count Dracula becomes the leader of a Corporate Alliance.

I don't know how this could be any more clear: Feudalism is not monarchy, it's not slave owning, it's not royal titles. We had kings and queens and emperors for thousands of years before feudalism and in most of the world, feudalism never happened. It is not natural and it is specific to certain parts of the world. Moreover, "royal titles" in the Star Wars universe were shown in the PT to be nothing more than fancy words. Padme, the "Queen" of Naboo, had a term. She wasn't a constitutional monarch, she was a president with a different name. Do you know why Lucas made them queens and knights and whatnot? It isn't because of some hidden notion about feudalism, it was because he was making a sci-fantasy franchise and knights rescued queens in fantasy.

Hans-Hermann Hoppe is in favour of free contracts, freedom to switch occupations and the like. This is classic libertarianism and is the antithesis of feudalism. He certainly has elements of anarchy in his work (and I'm an anarchist), but to call what he wants feudalism tells me that you have no clue what feudalism is. I'm sorry if I'm coming off as harsh but the degree to which some people here are so sure that they're right when they're demonstrably false and misguided is staggering.
