49ers just signed TE Vance McDonald to 5 year, $35 million extension. $16M guaranteed.

Good for him. I don't have faith in him catching on somewhere else because it would be the first loving thing he's ever caught.

Basically Lombardi is being told what to say by belichick because he knows Haslam can be influenced.

Next we're going to see reports of 2 first round picks so haslam can feel smart when he only gives up a first and conditional third.

It's also worth noting that Witten's contract was signed back in 2011 and was a 7-year deal. Thomas' and Pitta's deals are for 5 years and Graham's was for 4. This makes Thomas' contract look even worse in comparison.

No it's about right for a TE that can't block and is only on a 4-year deal

Kelce's guaranteed 20 million according to Spotrac, unless I'm misunderstanding what "at signing" means.

e: Oh I think I am, I guess he has to be rostered in 2017 and 2018 before that 20 is fully guaranteed?

Yeah guaranteed at signing is the only part of the contract that matters, the rest of the "guaranteed" is funny money that guarantees annually and isn't tied up in roster bonuses, performance bonuses, workout bonuses, etc, etc.

The difference was one I had to learn in the whole "Colin Kaepernick $126 million contract" thing

Yeah, guaranteed at signing only covers signing bonuses (and potentially the first year of the contract, depending on how it's structured). Guaranteed annual pay usually doesn't kick in until the 1st/2nd day of the league year, if a player is still on the roster. Roster and Workout bonuses kick in on the appropriate days. If a player is cut before these cutoff dates, he gets nothing.

Yeah that's right, I knew all that and forgot about it/confused myself, since in Kelce's case it's actually going to happen barring catastrophe.

Yeah this has been rough, the Texans best overall player, best defensive back, starting RT and starting C all on IR. Ballentine has never been off IR in his three year career AFAIK. Newton's career is over I'm 95% sure, he's the one who exploded both his patella on the same play
