The basic story is that Youtube has some fancy tech in place that just screwed over a lot of big LPers, and PewDiePie is threatening to leave if things don't get fixed (My personal theory is that he's probably got tons of cash in the bank and he's ready to retire or get a different job). What it amounts to is that YT has a new system/glitch that auto-unsubscribed people from accounts if they didn't visit videos from those accounts every few days. PewDiePie, alongside Markplier, JackSepticEye and some others, lost a fair share of subs as a consequence. Adding in the various false copyright scandals, the WTFU situation from earlier in the year, and the new content guidelines, a lot of people are looking for an alternate video service to Youtube, especially as they're seen as being complacent because of the lack of any real competition (Barring Facebook's potential streaming service).

Yeah whether you hate or love his content, PDP himself has always come across as a pretty stand up person. He doesn't seem to have any skeletons outside of the tasteless humor of his early videos that he cut down on after people brought up how offensive rape jokes are. I'll never watch his stuff but I can't hate a guy who does so much charity work seemingly for the right reasons.

Like he said in the video he would delete the channel and remake it with a new name. I started watching some of his stuff since about a month ago, it's clearly different from what he used to do. Actually funny sometimes, for one. I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to leave some of that early baggage behind in some way.

How quickly would he regain his subs if he did delete and recreate though. If he wants to make a statement he'd delete and just move to a competitor (which I don't think he actually can because what's even the competition and maybe there's some contract stuff going on)

It's a shame because he had like the perfect opportunity to make a statement on youtube being lovely to its users, but he only took it halfway. Ah well. Like Mokinokaro said, he probably has contracts from advertisers/channel networks that would prevent him from actually doing it anyway.

SBF are all right. I enjoy their content every once in a while. I only watch the playthroughs of games I'm interested in, though. So I'm not a super hardcore fan. They seem to mostly play games they actually care about rather than the flavour of the month for no reason and they finish the majority of their playthroughs.
