what she should've said was that she rejected the implications of that question because having a public stance and a private stance doesn't make you a hypocrite, it makes you an effective leader who knows when not to say what they really think because EVERYBODY has times when they CAN'T say what they really think gently caress, throw in a comment about how everyone in the audience has probably had to kiss and play nice with someone they hate because money or family or something

Huey Long was basically an idiot and figured out how to do it. Trump dumber than him. The issue isn't that enough smart people aren't being paid to come up with this kind of messaging. It's that a large group of people in the Democratic party don't believe in this, and as such need to pay people to figure out those words.

Calling democratic socialism something else just puts you into a position where you're defending against republican claims that you're a "socialist", this is an unwinnable fight and a huge waste of time that gives ammo to the GOP (see: Obama). However, if you respond to those questions by explaining what democratic socialism is, and pointing to countries that have it, opponents are forced to actually address what they see as disagreeable with it, which is a much more easily won argument. Democrats need to stop putting themselves on the defense against republican attacks and force republicans to defend themselves or ignore popular good policies, stuff like legislation to persecute companies using tax havens, or addressing diaper need or housing instability.
