Sounds like the Smedley game Hero's Song storybricks mechanic (which came from Everquest Next). Pretty cool stuff.

It's more like Dwarf Fortress, just background history for each world to make them look "lived in".

yeah Hero's Song worldgen is pretty explicitly based on dwarf fort. Trying to do the same thing with Crowfall's campaigns is a good call

World with have generic templates like "Mountain range" 1-5 and Plains + Town 1-3

These will then have a dwarf fortress like process applied to them to simulate the World happening, adding tombs, battlefields, stuff on top of the terrain (perhaps even altering it).

Thus 2 maps may have te same base structure of mountain range but one might have an ancient keep buried into it at the other may have something else

That sounds really interesting. I'd love to see a timelapse of that sim taking place. (Though I imagine it won't be graphical at all to save on development time :/)

Ok this is the overzealous kind of thing I was worried about. Dwarf fortress manages this because it's been the passion project of an autistic savant for a little over a decade now. They don't need dwarf fortress style intricacy for their game worlds. They should just use normal-rear end procedural generation like everyone else who has non-static maps in their games.

Filling in some historical events grabbed from a bag, naming some NPCs, and dropping some greeblies and buildings onto the parcel is worlds away from what Toady (who is not autistic) does.

Yeah in reviewing it it was more fun when he was complaining that we outnumbered him and were unfair literally minutes after him and his pal were picking off solo miners.

We still made ourselves the enemy of the server that night.

It's weird how consistently I see people complain about gank squads in games that are specifically designed to support gank squads. What do they expect these games to be like?

Also Toady is hella autistic. He develops the archetypal autist game. I remember an old interview with him where even the interviewer thought he was autistic.

Holy poo poo are they really expecting early UO honorable combat where people bow before engaging in PVP?

Cause even that went out the window in a hilarious way.

(I know they only want PVP where they singlehandedly win against everyone)

Pretty sure goons were pointing out from the beginning that most of the people calling for "hardcore pvp" were super in love with the idea of ganking newbies who couldn't fight back, and would absolutely hate it whenever they were ganked themselves.

You know, just like in literally every other game that tried to sell itself on "hardcore pvp".

Unfortunately I crashed making it a fair fight; on his stream he still said he counted that as a 3v2 zerg fest. My characters running in place was the unfair advantage that tipped the scales.

tbh, the amount of fun you can have in this game while it's crashing, the server is hitching every couple seconds, and it loses your poo poo every fifth time you craft something gives me hope that it might actually be good

In the last few tests I spent 10+ hours gathering, crafting, getting ganked and start gathering and crafting again. The reason I did that is because I was told it would stay between tests (by other players so that's my bad). I am not going to do this again. I am not taking part in play-testing unless you give us our old gear/loot back.
