CIG is a hard hat area.

Or is it RSI?

Nobody knows.

Whoever you request a refund from is the wrong one.

Seriously, though, is RSI a real world company, or an in-game ship manufacturer, or both? I'd love to witness Crobbler explaining that to a judge.

Where's Derek?

He's strangely missing. It feels so empty here without him.

Alright, I'm going to stop posting so much; this morning's discussion got me into starting to watch the full Twilight Zone collection, so I'm going to go do that.

There are two levels of thought here.

I've had the privilege to know some wealthy people, and learned a few things;

Being able to buy a 500k car, and being able to afford one are two different things.

It's no different than driving through a neighbourhood and seeing everyone in 100k Range Rovers parked infront of their 5mil$ house, chances are they have multiple credit cards, and a huge mortgage

LOTS of people can buy a 500k car (especially when we're talking LA)

The truly rich would buy a 500k car and add it to their collection, their wealth management company would cut a draft to the dealership.

Crobbers walks in like a big shot and leases (he seems like the type to lease) that car, knowing he could never comfortably afford to out right buy it, as the space ship sales could end at any moment

How many times a week do you hear of 'Insert Rapper' whoever having their lambo reposed because they over spent and are no flat broke, everyone spends when the cash is rolling in never thinking about what happens when it stops

What makes a $500,000 car ten times better than a $50,000 one? Like where do the costs go, does the chassis use iridium alloys or something? Endangered species hides for seat covers?

honestly I dunno, my car has heated leather seats and a boatload of extras so anything better would just be going faster than my v6

In the case of a car like a Porsche, it will be tuned and outfitted like the track variant, but intended for super rich yuppies to buy to live out their racing dreams on the commute to work, stop light to stop light.

Debating the semantics of how rich people spend money is kind of silly though, considering Chris is still in the 'I have money, but I'm still a pleb' class of citizen, he drives himself to work? What a chump

High-end cars are awesome, but the stress of worrying about someone door dinging them reduces the enjoyment, unless you're rich enough to not give a poo poo, or you understand high-end cars are just tools for joy. I'd daily drive a 20 year old piece of poo poo, and drive an expensive sports car into the ground on the track.

If you daily drive a high end sports car, you're just a loving poser.

I'd divert some of my S&P 500 fund for this, except for the coke thing. The one and only time I had a tiny bit of coke I spent 15 minutes in abject horror because I felt my heart was about to blow up and I was on the verge of death.

Eventually costs go way up for diminishing returns, and yes it's mostly due to exotic materials. That and expensive tooling for low volume cars, research and whatnot. Believe it or not a lot of these cars are loss leaders for the brand.

But remember a 500k car will dip in value then shoot right back up astronomically within a couple years. The McLaren p1 at over a million is the first car that appreciates right off the lot. The McLaren f1's from the 90's are hovering around 12 mill if you can find one. Mr bean totalled his twice and it still sold for over 12.
