Fun note, if you're doing a Caribbean or Bahamas cruise you don't need a passport, just a US birth certificate. Both of our passports were out of date but that detail saved us some money.

Good to know. I think we're going to do a 3 night one at the end of March to Nassau/Castaway Cay, and then use our AP for a room discount at a value resort or something.

If your cruise begins and ends in the same US port (otherwise known as a closed-loop cruise) and you're a US citizen all you need is a birth certificate and an ID. You do not need a passport. That said, get a passport. If your cruise is not closed-loop, for instance, you're leaving say out of New York, cruising to the Bahamas, and ending in Fort Lauderdale, you would have to have a passport. The worst part about onboard casinos (I really don't care if people gamble one way or the other) is how permeated the area can be with smoke on some of the ships. It really makes travelling across the length of the ship annoying at times. Nthing the wonderful idea of the Disney cruise if you have the opportunity. Never done it for a honeymoon, but the service is already excellent as a normal passenger, so you're bound to get extra honeymoon perks. Plus, having no internet at sea is the best way to get off your phone and spend time with your new spouse and have lots of sex.

There is a cruise app so you can still text each other at sea (or any other people on the boat, I guess). It uses ship wifi and has Disney emojis. The cruise is a lot of fun, the food and entertainment are great. Be sure to go to the shows in the theater. If you're into pin trading it's a great place to complete hidden Mickey sets. The shops have rather large books that are full of pins. It's much easier than trading at the parks, almost too easy.

Disney Cruise does have wave phones, which is like a cordless phone dealie that works only on the ship. Every room has a couple of them so if you want to be on one end of the ship and your family on the other, you can keep in contact. You can also use the Navigator app that Disney has. I do think it lets you text on board but I've never used it as it wasn't a thing when I last sailed DCL.

You get a free amount of internet bandwidth with your booking, but it's a paltry amount like 50mb. If you turn off all background services you can make that last a few days for strictly texting if you use iMessage but literally anything else will eat that up in no time, then it gets pretty pricey. But like mentioned above, it's a nice excuse to unplug for a few days and really enjoy your time. You can also find free wifi on each island pretty easily if you need to check emails or check in with family or something.

I don't know if they're having a bad day here or something but had a miserable experience trying to convert my tickets to a AP at guest services in MK. The lady kept basically saying not to do it it was ridiculous. She ended up not doing it for us so we had to go outside the park and try a different cashier. How do they not know this poo poo? We had this issue converting ours. At MK gate you need to go to the little kiosk right by where you walk up from the busses, not customer service. I agree the communication for this isn't there and it can be frustrating. We definitely made a point to mentioned it at one of the random surveys we were pulled aside for.

During my last trip, I found that service was universally worse at the Magic Kingdom compared to any of the other parks, resorts, or restaurants. It seemed like there were a lot more college program cast members at MK, and a lot of them weren't well-suited for the job. The people they had wrangling foot traffic before the parades were particularly awful, and one of them chewed me out for asking her a quick question despite not looking the least bit busy. Not really what I expect from Disney.

On this trip a kid working the smaller Citrus Swirl counter near Skipper Canteen had to get, no joke, held back by another CM because I wore a Patriots hat and he started screaming about "cheating", like actually angry screaming at me. I thought it was hilarious but my girlfriend was super caught off guard by it and she wouldn't go back there the rest of our trip.

I can attest that in some areas of MK the cast morale is basically rock bottom. As to why, there are several reasons, but until that problem is solved, I think the trend of seeing more CMs being ruder to guests than you might consider normal will continue. Happy cast = Happy Park, and most cast ain't so happy.

I know they are vastly overworked/understaffed in MK. My wife had a pastry/culinary coworker transfer to Skipper's at MK and hates it. She's been working 6-7 days at a time and long hours. A few nights she slept in her car in the cast lot. Heard similar horror stories from other MK cast. With the crowd levels and push for revenue, I have no idea how Disney can logistically fix the issue, but working your staff into the ground is not the answer, no matter how good the overtime pay is. \/ \/ my wife still loves her job and cast at Animal Kingdom seem very happy as a whole, we'll see how that holds with permanent extended night time hours and Avatar opening next year. If you're the kind to do it (my wife is), I recommend taking the time to let Customer Service know over the phone. They will do everything they can to make you happy again. (for what it's worth, I'm always considering the hell that some CMs must go through given the kind of people I just walk by and wrinkle my nose in disgust at any given trip to the parks. I feel like this used to be the case but isn't so much anymore. I've had two issues at WDW this year and when I've spoken to Guest Relations after the fact they've been all "Welp, sorry that happened. Have a good day." I never really got anybody who seemed interested in doing anything they could to make me happy. That said, I had a problem at Fort Wilderness cabins (mousekeeping accidentally broke my phone charger) and I got a new cable (CM ran out to the store to get it that night) and $50 cash to replace the wall unit. Absolutely report any problems while you're on property. They tend to care more than if you wait until you get home and call in. Braksgirl fucked around with this message at 00:14 on Dec 13, 2016 |

I just got back from my trip and everything was great. Though to be fair the only time I spent at MK was for Very Merry and we avoided most of the holiday stuff (my fella does not like pageantry so we didn't see the fireworks or parade) in favor of enjoying short lines. We had a nice chat the other night with a CM at our hotel who said she used to work parade crowd control at MK and had lost track of the number of people who told her she was ruining their vacation by being asked to leave. Said she was much happier at the hotel where at worst she had to tell people they cant park in the drop off area while checking in. That, yes, people would get mad, but it wasn't nearly as bad and she had a lot more leeway to let people stay parked during slow times. *shrug* ooohhh ohhhh my only complaint was I paid for a river view and there was a big ole magnolia tree between my window and the river -_- But we spent so little time in the room during daylight hours.... Oh and man i wish memory maker werent so expensive. I like a lot of the pictures we took but its hard to justify that much money when we only spent two days on property. Still though. What a magical place

Yeah it was just such a shockingly bad day and I don't know why. That first CM at guest services was literally telling us not to upgrade to AP and that the discounts and photopass weren't worth it and when I asked if upgrading would cause my hotel reservation and dining reservation to go away her answer was "probably". gently caress off that's terrible customer service. Anyways she refused to answer the question and just quoted me on a price that wasn't even right and then told us to go away. So so ridiculously bad. It just seemed like she didn't want to do her job. She was older though. It felt like everyone at the park was expecting a slow day and then when it was actually really busy they were pissed. At this point I was loving livid and Then we went outside to that guest services and the CM was a bit better but I also got the "probably" answer in regards to the meal plan and hotel room. Luckily she ended up calling a manager and they said it wouldn't effect it and she went through and upgraded us although not without a attitude. Once we got into the park we were hungry and went to Caseys which had no organization going on and I had my order taken twice and it was wrong both times. The guy actually flipped out on his co worker also because lines weren't being managed. Just real unprofessional. Rest of the day was meh. Was stupid busy it seemed but what ya gunna do.
