No, you're right, Hughes' Funeral is pretty much the gut punch of the series. There's a lot of other sad moments, but that's the one that tops it for FMA. Plus, it also adds to the 'darker' parts of the series story and ends up being a plot point for a good while after, so it's not just a 'hey, be sad' kind of moment.

The first one she's just a pissy bully, the second one she's lazy and pissy, the third one she's just awkward and kind of a bully, but develops into a clockpunch hero who bullies people into doing things for her so she can save the world.

Lightning exists to kick other people and moogles around while only ever showing positive emotions towards sweet rear end horsechickens that she can ride.

Give me your friend's BURGERS and SANDWICHES, I'll put out the fire.

Shes basically a female version of Cloud post 7 but with some seriouse hang ups on people being controlled by their fate and her
younger sister getting married.

I havn't played the third game in the series yet but they made it clear she basically became the producer of the game's waifu. Third game is also a dress up simulator so take that as you will.

Personally I like her but I'm not sure it's the way they intended.

Yeah, from what I hear the a head producer fell in love with her and basically pumped out games with her despite there being no demand for her at all, at least in the west.

Lightning's actually really popular in Japan, especially among women. Probably because she embodies that weird quiet everywoman over there while being able to tell people to gently caress off.

And honestly, the first two games in XIII were trash, the third one only got fun because of how goofy it got with her becoming a born again Christian cosplayer. It even ends on Lightning canonically realizing she hates this heroism stuff and fucks off to become Square's fashion model.

That's only partially correct, but yeah. Another problem was that they overproduced assets for the original FFXIII.

Honestly everything about the production of 13 and 15 in the Final Fantasy series was a mess.

Wait- I heard a rumour that one of the reasons they tried to make FF13 a franchise was because Square spent so much on so many assets for the base game, they had to recoup their losses somehow. You telling me it's true?

She kills God, proclaims herself as the God of Death, resets the universe to be one without magic (GET IT? It's the FINAL fantasy), and ends up on what is basically our Earth with a job as a fashion model. This is just after her younger self, formed from chaos to look like her sister, tells her that she's super insecure and always wanted to wear dresses.

It's quite harrowing.

Basically they just had artists make pretty poo poo for FFXIII and then wrote its plot. This left them with tons useless loving baggage that they had lying around.
