Yeah, Inquisition's focus on being as big and grand as possible--while also having almost no urgency so that you can do as much open-world loving around as you want--tells me that BioWare learned what I think was the wrong lesson from Dragon Age 2. I respect a lot of what they were trying to do with the story, but they cut so many corners and rushed the game so thoroughly that it ended up being a bad game, and I find that really frustrating.

I also think it's just what general audiences expect from big AAA games, RPG or otherwise. I can't really blame people--most people don't play as many games as I do and probably aren't fatigued by the same things I am. There might have been some early concept of Inquisition's story that was a very "human-scale" thing focusing on trying to save Thedas from tearing itself apart in the Mage/Templar conflict, and early feedback would have been: "I don't know, this isn't very exciting," or, "I'm just not grabbed by this," that kind of thing.

The only developer I can think of trying more "human-scale" stories in big releases is probably Naughty Dog. The Last of Us is a very personal story, and so is Uncharted 4, underneath all the bombast and explosions. Hell, Uncharted 4 is the first game in the series not to feature any sort of supernatural element at all, or even a hint at one, and the main conflicts are mostly within Nate's group, with the mercenaries and Rafe Adler there just to give Nate something to act irresponsibly about.

Man, Dragon Age 2's engine is really bad.

There's not so great parts in the gameplay they've shown in Andromeda, but I don't think it will be as bad giraff neck Merrill and dead inside Hawke.

My character was making conversation with the gay mage dude and out of nowhere he starts hitting on me and, my character not being gay, and me also not wanting to play a Japanese dating simulator, politely declined. He had a hugely negative reaction and there were basically no more dialogue options for the rest of the game.

My character told Dorian he wasn't interested, but they still had friendly and somewhat flirtatious banter throughout the game and he turned out to be one of my favorite characters. I liked helping him to patch up things with his family.

I'm elbow deep in a series ME run, finished up the original and started 2 last night. ME3 really spoiled me as a vanguard with Nova. I keep forgetting that I don't have my panic button attack and charging into groups of enemies unprepared. Really missing that combat roll too, say what you will about me3 but the gameplay was perfect imo

Nope, not at all. I did a no-romance run for my LP. However, if you flirt with a person/people who are romanceable (my lady elf was completely shameless in her pursuit of Cass and Dorian but for some reason they didn't go for it :downs: ) even a couple of times it can poo poo the bed and try to hard track you into one. That might have been patched though.

The best part of dragon's dogma was showing up to fight the dragon and he's kidnapped who he thinks is your love interest. There's almost no hint of it even being a system in the game and the game defaults your partner to being the underage princess, but if you spend a lot of time in a shop he might kidnap that NPC instead, and having the dragon offer you his deal and dramatically reveal the fat general store NPC as your love is the funniest loving thing.

They should make all the characters Isabela, also I'm still mad Bioware didn't make the one DLC I'd want, Isabela and Hawke pirate ship adventures. Would've been money!

Other than Origins where I played that fancy version, the only DLC I've bought is the Shadow Broker one for ME2, for the record. Setting them generally before the ending of the game is another thing that makes them feel skippable to me.

That was interesting to me just because I wanted to know about Shadow Broker, the other thing is more just a reason why I skip some DLC in general. But that said, I'm glad DLC is mostly skippable, since 100 bucks or so for a game would seem a bit much.

I'm not gonna get the FF XV DLC for example. Not a big fan of the DLC thing, and if they do it I'd like it to be one big fairly impressive expansion. Like say Ballad of Gay Tony for GTA4, or what DA Awakening was going for.

Pretty much. There are four main paths you can do, in one you can basically be lawful evil/lawful neutral, two paths are for chaotic evil/neutral evil, and one is for some variations of good. I like the game a lot, but it's more or less an Infinity Engine game, not comparable to Mass Effect or even the newer Dragon Age.

I always do Shadow Broker after returning to Ilium for Miranda's loyalty mission, so like about 2/3rds of the way through the game. Though it's amusing how you can just initiate it right away even without completing Liara's little sidequests, "Shepard help me track down the Shadow Broker whom I've been stalking for y-- actually nvm let's just go now."
