Sometimes you reach a stalemate. Sometimes you get magic horses.
Just won an IS v Clan invasion with a 48-47 score. Our omega generator on boreal vault had 50% hp and the final battle was half a hunchback IIC with ER large lasers and a hellbringer with one medium laser left vs a spider with 1 LL and 1 ML. Even if the spider died we would have won on time, but we managed to get the last kill with four seconds left on the clock. Prior to that last stand we all started yelling "OXIDE POWER" as our second to last living mech, an oxide, cored out five mechs in a row that were firing on the generator.

I netted 12 kills and 2.8k damage and can confirm that lpl boat boars heads still mulch through clan mediums and lights.

Also, I didn't realize that IS drop deck tonnage was back up to 265. Two atlas, and either an urbanmech/oxide or a locust/blackjack. :fap:

If you stick to IS mechs that zombie well you'll do ok.

Zombie quad AC/5 maulers work ok if you like assaults and you can cram in a ton of ammo too.

I've been doing some FP pub drops and a goon drop would stand a very, very good chance of winning in these. Both drops have been IS pugs vs. organized groups and we've won one invasion and lost a skirmish 22-29, but they had a full 9 zombied and open CT mechs when the timer ticked down. Cat herding has done okay but the pubs haven't been pulling their weight.

Also if you were ever sacrificing time with friends and family for getting a free lovely -(L) variant mech for a lovely game in the first place, you probably need to reconsider your life choices anyway

I want to say a medium crab with 5 medium pulse lasers and a STD280 but I don't know how I feel about them after they grew significantly during the resizening. Ok I guess but not quite the same as before since they can't be cheeky and hide behind nearly as much cover while trying to cool down.

The Marauders also used to be great at being autocannon zombies but they lost a lot of their durability quirks and they also grew a lot sooo... maybe not. Black Widow however... thumbs up due to fantastic geometry, hardpoint locations and full shield arms.

Dec 27, 2005

the timer in FP Skirmish needs to be boosted by at least 5 minutes. as is the game is being decided by short-rear end timer more than anything. pull ahead on the first wave? the enemy's second wave is going to come back and likely take down your beaten mechs to take the lead from you, and then by the time your fresh wave is out there time is likely getting short - and if it's a group like MS you're up against, they're likely going to retreat and go for the timescam.

Hmmm, I don't care to pay for the Black Widow, but I'll wait and see. I've got a decent sized shopping list already at the moment. Thanks though. Maybe the Marauders after my Banshee(s), but they do seem large and clunky...

edit: is it bad that I want all 3 banshees

Nothing wrong with banshees. They get overshadowed by the newer and cooler assaults but they're still solid if you like them.

Yes it's bad. Just get the one you like the most because in the skill rework you won't need to level up multiple chassis.
(unless you want hardpoint variety that is, in which case go for it)

They're still very solid mechs that can rack up horrifying scores. 7 MPL at once now incur ghost heat, but it's a small penalty that only makes their total heat roughly equivalent to that of 8 MPLs, so you can and should still alpha in anything but a prolonged engagement.

Though personally, I've settled on a somewhat janky build with 6 MPL, 1 ML, and 1 SRM4. It's slightly inefficient in terms of cooldowns but I enjoy the extra punch and the ability to just alpha all the time.

Would you say you have extra "close range punch"? I could see that ditch the ML and either run a SRM6 or ASRM4. The 4 will sync up better and land more "punch" where you aim it. The 6... well people like 6's I guess.

The sheer number of 12-2 or better shut outs we pulled off last night was amazing. We had some rough matches, but that was generally due to a lack of target calling or because somebody, I won't name names, kept blabbering on about his drunk mate wandering home from the pub through the whole match. :downs:

Right, need some Marauder IIC builds. The Scorch I'm loving with is 3x LPL and 4x ERSL, does okay, runs hot as balls. The Hero variant I haven't a loving clue, 4x ASRM6 is kinda meh, and the low-slung guns are a bitch to hit with. I'll probably keep it as it and see if it does okay in city maps or something. The D gets ECM which is super nice on an 85 tonner.

a) IS pubbies still have literal hamster turds for brains and as such are willing and eager to be drawn into a poke-fest with clan mechs that they aren't going to win

b) the clan dropdeck is still ridiculously efficient and giving IS 15 more tons to play with doesnt actually change this in any way
