i dont want them to get an intern because they would just torture and make fun of some poor kid and it would take the heat off of josh who we already know deserves it.

Another reason duds work is sometimes you get poo poo like Tree Stand Safety. Where the gang is all excited for the video and then it turns out to be really terrible and they regret everything.

The cast seem like they legitimately don't want to do any future episodes of this because it's not fun to do. That's why I would voice a concern.Guy Goodbody posted:No, seeing the guys get upset about boring videos is also entertaining Is that what you think people are saying? I don't think anybody is saying pull all the dud tapes off the board, but if someone could make sure none of the tapes are unwatchable as in would eat the machine or the tracking is so bad nobody will watch it, or if the board could be set at a decent mix so the cast are guaranteed that there's some gold worth sitting for. You gotta have at least one winner on the board, whether it's a good concept that goes dud or whatever. Like I have a kung-fu movie I've never watched that says it's about midgets. No idea if it's good, but I'd put it in the lineup because at least people will come to see it. So some tapes are legitimately just not worth it, they're not fun to watch and they're not worth talking about in any way whatsoever. That was the first round of screening at mst3k, like make sure when the movie was recorded they lit it to the point that something was visible onscreen and the tape isn't 6 minutes long. Second round was the guys would screen the movie together and look for something worth riffing, which is where they record BOTW. That's all I'd suggest to them.

It's not like there are another 100 potential Shoji videos they have laying around. there's also only so many interesting bad VHS tapes out there. best of the worst can go on forever because they watch actual movies and there's shitloads of those and more bad movies being made every day (niel breen, len kabasinski) but on wheel they watch grab bag random poo poo from the 80's and 90's like self help videos and so on. found footage as a genre has been around since VHS itself, a lot of the interesting tapes are known and talked about if you've had an interest in the genre for a while or follow other found tape aggregators like tv carnage, everything is terrible, found footage festival etc. every so often rlm turns up something great like osteoperosis dance that's slipped under the radar but stranger dangers with corny and nightmare on drug street have both been dissected by everything is terrible already, etc. rlm found tree stand safety to be pretty boring but eit had a good take i guess for dead animals, it's a hunting video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14RCMACTl9o boner confessor fucked around with this message at 18:36 on Dec 14, 2016 |

boner confessor posted:thats not my point, calm down nerdlinger i didn't insult rich evans Do you mean us the viewer of RLM or them the...also viewer but is RLM. If you mean us then that's up to the individual, but I would say mst3k has been around in one form or another since 1990 with a constant fanbase so some people haven't gotten bored yet. If you mean the chaps at RLM, well I'd say they are constantly suffering from boredom especially this episode. But after like 4 years and a few hundred movies they seem no worse for wear. Mike's purple hands are cleaning up. Jake got rid of that facial hair. Jay is even more of a dreamboat than when they started. Jessie probably died, but we all knew there would be losses.

mst3k reviews actual movies and short films, not rando cash in VHS boom tapes from the dollar store. there's a big difference between the giant backlog of poo poo movies versus odd niche one off tapes like heavy metal parking lot, be cool about fire safety, strong kids, safe kids etc. so on which are much more likely to be boring trash than a whole lovely movie i think the rlm guys have more interest in doing best of the worst because then they can talk about film making, a subject which more of them are interested in, than the more bizarre cultural ephemera that's inherent in found footage. like exploding varmits was funny but there's really only a few things to talk about there compared to the half hour they spent talking about the excellent bad movie rotor

They should have kept with the drug video, I watched it in highschool and it's hilarious. I mean the girl trades a diamond necklace for an 8ball of coke which she then does in a single night and dies. And that poor little black kid gets hooked on crack and dies during a break from dinner with his parents in his seemingly middle class household by smoking crack in the bathroom. The whole thing was just so preposterous and ridiculous and out of touch it was super funny.

The way the narrator just lists off the types of weapons so calmly and plainly is so god drat strange. Not to mention the demonstrations of knife techniques that just look like the guy is flailing around. It'd be like Exploding Varmints where most of the laughs are more out of shock and disgust rather than "haha thats funny" but drat if it wouldn't be funny to watch their reactions to it. Their reaction to the sword through the door and the crossbow would be amazing.

You are all forgetting even the most mundane tapes they find have resulted in their funniest episodes. The Osteoporosis Dance will always be my favourite. Saddest thing about that episode (other than the ladies who are likely dead by now) is the lovely American Flatulators video. Every goddamn time it takes the wind right out of the sails following the Osteoporosis Dance. I guess there isn't much you can follow with that though.
