Just walk in, give the boss a firm handshake, look him in the eye and say you're a really hard worker. He'll be impressed at your gumption and you'll start on Monday.

I thought I would have a job lined up after finishing school, but now I don't. EPIC's coding test is outsourced to some test prep thing in India. The proctor kept telling me to be quiet, because I often talk out loud as I work through problems. If anyone ever applies for Menards, their IS test taking website is timed. But you can pause the timer by simply clicking the submit early button. It makes a confirmation popup that freezes the background window. I applied to this place in Austin whose name I've since forgotten. The guy wanted to do a skype interview, which I agreed to. He started the interview with the cam on and me on mute on his end and proceeded to call me a loving idiot for not knowing how to use skype. I didn't want that position after that. I have no idea what I want to do in computers, just a source of income would be nice.

to be fair i think even most Pearson places would tell you to quiet down if you were talking loudly to yourself the facility i took my Epic coding assessment in just had two proctors shitposting in the back of the room while everyone else took their tests. i think most of the other people there were doing some kind of nursing exam

i've only ever had one written programming test for employment it was by an older company that had been utilizing computers since the early days and I'm pretty sure the test wasn't much younger -- it was pretty much a mock assembly test here are your commands, plz write basic arithmetic, plz write loop, etc

Shaman Linavi posted:the Epic test was fun because it was like "here is a totally made up language lets see if you can figure it out" and it was actually a bunch of MUMPS questions loooooooooool this owns Also you should drill with Skype and Hangouts with a buddy annually or every time you get a new computer to make sure your speaker/mic work you must be a vicious, aggressive animal when job hunting. You must shame the poo poo out of the other guy. I beat out a candidate that did better on the takehome test and had 10 more years experience, because I could run skype better and I'd been in the industry for a *shorter* period. They judged his velocity to be insufficient.

i was offered my position on the basis of my resume and a single 45 minute multi party audio-only telephone interview. it occurred to me as i showed up at the front desk my first day that no one had even seen a picture of me. i relocated my family 800 miles to a town i'd never heard of. was nervous the first day, but they had everything ready for me. spent 2 hours filling out new-hire paperwork, then they showed me to my cube that a few of my co-workers had stocked with office supplies. the logins they gave me worked and i was able to get started training immediately. they handed me a 3-ring full of specifications and told me where to start.
