The theme of entropy and the senselessness of the conflict are incredibly consistent throughout. But sure they nailed a over arching theme including in the game mechanics entirely by accident

there's no such thing as bad game mechanics, only bad literary analysis and an incomplete perspective. you could apply the same argument to bioshock infinite without changing a word to excuse that game's tedious and repetitive shooting
