InitialDave posted:In fairness, a blend isn't really a negative thing, it's a perfectly traditional way of curating the desired taste etc for a whisky, and there's no inherent "superiority" to a single malt. Well yeah, if a blend tastes great, nothing wrong with that. It's the whole point after all. I just find that blends tend of fall into the "let's try to please everyone" trap, like a taste selection by focus group. Double Black is objectively a really good whiskey. It has a nice whiff of smoke, the taste is good and well-rounded. But it's just a bit too polished, too well put together. You get the immediate rush of flavor that hits all kinds of notes that are generally deemed important, and then it peters out rather quickly. In contrast, the single malts that I have fallen in love with (primarily from Islay) tend to be more of a mouthful at first, especially the cask strength varieties. But this also rewards you with a much longer-lasting taste sensation. It's a bit more "raw" and exciting. Single malts hit higher highs and lower lows, whereas with a blend you're reasonably sure of what you're going to get. It's good for a weekday evening, but you know which bottles you save for when you have some time to really sit down and enjoy it, which bottles you save for special occasions, and they're probably not blends KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 23:41 on Dec 16, 2016 |

Update on my wife's car getting rear-ended - stayed home from work today because I have the predictable sore back the day after being in a rear-end collision. Couldn't get the at-fault driver's information from the police department's records person until 2:30 this afternoon, then called the insurance company (Erie Insurance, I think they're regional to NY/PA/OH) and got run around from around 3 PM until just after 5. The adjuster assigned to the claim never called me back after I left her a voicemail, and then I spent the next two hours calling, being placed on hold and eventually getting a voicemail box for the person they transferred me to. Finally spoke to a non-receptionist just after 5 who told me the claim is "on hold" until they speak with their insured, who did not return a call placed today. Meanwhile I'm stuck with a car that's just over the "not" side of the "is it roadworthy" line, another that inexplicably disabled itself and I'm going to rent a car on my own dime and hope they reimburse me later.

I still watch TWD, and do get enjoyment from it, but it does get a bit samey at times. I'm not really convinced with the current season's arc.

Yeah, really that's what your insurance company is for. They should look after the claim for you and then work it out with the other insurance company with minimal input and inconvenience for you. If they don't do that, maybe look for a new insurance company because that's bullshit.

For my accident 2 years ago, I was able to handle it through the other person's insurance 100%, aside from the claim the other person filed against my insurance (which they laughed at once they saw the dashcam video). For the one this year... no dashcam, so it was a he said/she said. It's still tangled up in subrogation, and probably will be until the end of time. My insurance wound up paying to fix it. My rates also took a rather healthy hike at renewal, so as of tomorrow I'll be with Geico instead of Nationwide. $130/mo vs $95/mo. Renters insurance went up a couple of bucks a month with the switch, but I'd rather just have to pay one company every month. My credit score took a nasty beating this month too. Good thing I started shopping around before late payments got reported, I guess. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 02:32 on Dec 17, 2016 |

InitialDave posted:*thump of lawyer's cock hitting underside of desk* Lawyering up has definitely crossed my mind already. Last time I had to deal with being on the receiving end the other party's insurance (state farm) was falling over themselves to take care of me. The fact that "our insured hasn't called us back" is a legitimate reason to hold up the claim is kind of mind blowing. My wife has a P&C insurance license & works in the industry and didn't believe me when I told her what they said.

Some loving assknob ran a stop sign and T-boned me in the forester tonight. Fortunately, the damage is spread over only two panels (drivers fender and door plus some plastics and lights) and I just happened to spot a donor of the right paintcode at the local yard a whopping 6 hours previous, so I guess I am going junkyarding again tomorrow. I am most assuredly not at fault, but there were definitely no injuries and the guy seemed like he had enough money problems already (hippie looking dude driving a hooptie e250 van) so I told him as long as I got his info and 100 cash plus squaring up later if it costs me more than that, I won't bother filing a claim. I hate phones and car shopping and my shitbox would definitely get totaled if I put in a claim for this so... at least he hit my most-hated turdbucket car I guess. I'd be loving livid if this happened to any of my other rides.

Pay the deductible. At that point it's your insurance company's job to pay you out for your damages and do all the legwork recovering the claim from the other company. You're not going to have a easy time chasing down somebody else's insurance company for a claim on your own, the process becomes alot easier when it's suddenly another company's team of lawyers knocking on the door.
