My wife keeps telling me to stop petting the new kitten like a dog, but I plan on treating her just like my dog. They already tear around the house and play with each other. Granted my dog is a lazy bastard who is happiest when she is sleeping on your lap. Thankfully we just got the cat fixed so she can go outside soon, her mom was feral and she really wants to go hunt poo poo. slurry_curry fucked around with this message at 21:57 on Dec 21, 2016 |

Mrs. Slidebite hoped to call it an early day at work so she didn't pack a lunch. Around 11AM I got an email saying she's going to be working until after 5 after all. I thought I'd be a nice husband and grab a few burgers and bring them by her office and we would have lunch. Walk in to her office ... just as she's leaving with the rest of her co-workers to go out for a Christmas lunch. So i left, drove around the corner and ate 2 BK Big Fish and 2 Big King burgers. I feel like I'm going to

Hey if your car has "damaged connecting rod bearings" and the engine makes an extremely loud snapping sound how bad is that?

Three-Phase posted:Hey if your car has "damaged connecting rod bearings" and the engine makes an extremely loud snapping sound how bad is that? Ha. Funny you should say that. I just got my Baja back yesterday from having the head gaskets, timing belt and water pump done. In the 10 miles it took to drive home, it threw a rod. Hopefully he owns up to having screwed up the timing belt somehow (slightly off, not tight enough, whatever) and makes it right without having to resort to small claims court. Edit: just in case you weren't joking, it's "stop driving now, you fuckered your engine right good" bad.

Depends on how much he wants to keep the car, really. With luck, there might be a few days of light commuting left in it, but spontaneous disassembly is imminent

I've been driving the Forester around for over a year now with a terrific knock at idle that goes away but comes back at low load and any RPM above 2500. I've put a little over 25,000 miles on it in this time, and flog the dogshit out of it every day. lol

evilskillit posted:Good ol' Subaru piston slap. My Forester did that for years before it finally burend down to save it's self from being driven by me. lmao no, this is not piston slap. This is literally rod knock, I know the difference. It started happening after I ran it at high rpm for an excessive amount of time and then hammered it hard through some switchbacks. It let the knocks out in the second turn, been slowly but steadily worsening since then. I have the replacement engine sitting at Adiabatic's (and have since 18 hours after this one started telling lovely jokes) I just want to see how far I can push it. Did I mention I also haven't changed the oil once since then either? Because yeah, I haven't. I remember to check the level once every month or two. This is a long term experiment in how long a car can withstand zero fucks being given to it beyond basic safety stuff like brakes.

With my current schedule and the fact that home is 5 minutes from work, a minimum of 1 hour 20 minutes for driving to and from work and lunch time driving, anything else is "gently caress it, I wanna go for a drive" or running errands. So maybe 3-4 hours since I try to go for a couple 30 minute to hour long drives every week just to get it properly up to temp. Right now, a full tank of gas lasts me 2 weeks.

"Working" at home: 5 hours for errands, 2.5 hours round trip to the airport plus an hour or two in a rental car for a weekly meeting in Buffalo.

It's kinda weird how I try and keep the car running in a mix of ECO mode, normal mode (AKA "I want the heater on NOW and I need to merge onto the interstate" mode) or the forbidden SPORT mode (AKA "Not fast enough for you? Watch this, a-hole." mode). I am still getting used to how that performs in the normal and SPORT mode. It can nonchalantly get you moving faster than you expect sooner than you expect with the MGs and the CVT. Three-Phase fucked around with this message at 05:20 on Dec 22, 2016 |

Like an hour, maybe less. I've biked more miles this year than I've driven. Owning two cars is such a waste (I'd be shocked if I put 1000mi in the subaru this year), and yet I don't want to sell either of them.

My commute is only 10 minutes each way if traffic is light plus random trips to friends houses, grocery store, and out to eat once a week means 2 1/2 hours at most. drat. On the other hand I spend easily 50-80% of my work week behind the wheel but those aren't "my" cars.

45 mins each way to work 5 days a week so thats 7.5hrs a week in just the commute, then probably on average 3-4hrs on the weekends running around so 10hrs in my car. Once I get to work tho i'd easily spend another 2-6hrs a day in a 4wd at work. Generally doing about 200km a day between my own car and work. At the moment tho im doing 8.5hrs a day at work sitting in my tractor slashing, so pretty much Im "Driving" 50hrs a week at the moment...

blk posted:How much time would you guys say you spend in your car(s) per week? 30-60 hours, depending on how much I work. A good chunk of that is spent with the engine off waiting for a ping, or idling to run the heater/ac, depending on what the weather is like. A tank of gas used to last me mayyyybe a day and a half. I'm down to 2 tanks a week. And my drivers seat smells about as bad as you think. I'm gonna be so glad when I find a real, W2, non-driving job again. Turns out being a contractor for over a year makes you basically unemployable.
