DHBs have some obvious faults, but generally have some decent benefits - mostly that it allows different areas to meet their specific needs more efficiently. The Northland DHB's rheumatic fever plan is a good example.

This could be achieved with a centralised health system, but not as effectively and more people would fall through the cracks.

Next time you go to the GP/specialist bring a list of questions with follow up questions with you. He is yours for that 15~ minutes so you better use it. Same sort of thing with WINZ, sometimes they volunteer information, sometimes you have to ask or dig. Do your best to understand how the process works so you can keep the help coming with minimal fuss. If your GP is any good, he won't care what the folks at WINZ thinks when he writes up the paper work for the help you need and WINZ as an organization won't care either as long as you got the paperwork.

How much is a consultation with a shrink, anyway? I've got a lot of weight in my head and a real problem with people - it'd be nice to be able to make friends.

e: Also, I kinda want to buy a laptop that can comfortably play Witcher 3 (Current one can't manage anything over 10fps at lowest settings). Good models/prices?

In Christchurch prices seem to be around $120 - $160.

Sliding scale, I don't think I have seen anyone lower than $100 per hour. Go play a team sport, if the folks are any good they will welcome you. It is the off season right now so you won't find much.

Don't game on a laptop. There are options, but they sort of stop being laptops. you're looking at a minimum of 2.5K for something that will run the Witcher 3 acceptably with something like a Nvidia 1060, the next step up is 3.5K.

For a desktop minimum I suggest a 1060 of whatever variant you want, if you go cheap, it doesn't really matter. $479. https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/VGAGBV11061/Gigabyte-GTX1060-6GB-Windforce-OC-Version-Gaming-V

An Intel i5 something skylake $274: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CPUIT6401/Intel-Skylake-Core-i5-6400-27Ghz-6MB-LGA-1151-4-Co

Some sort of case if you already have one ~$50 and up depending on what you get this will change the motherboard.. https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CHASGT03400/Segotep-Racing-ATX-Mid-Tower-Case-with-Front-12CM

A PSU $100+ ~ 150, don't cheap out on this as you will regret it: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/PSUEVG10450/EVGA-500B-500W-Power-Supply-MEPS-Ready--Single-12V
https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/PSUCOR2550/Corsair-550W-CS550M-ATX-Power-Supply-80-Gold-Certi

Drives, HDD if you want storage, SSD for speed/system/app drive. The SSD thread is here, but it boils down to buy a Samsung, there are a couple other pickings but go to the last page and read backwards from there then get the size you want $90+: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3788665

Ram, maybe two of these $200: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MEMKIN3007538/Kingston-4GB-DDR4-2666MHz-NON-ECC-CL-15

Mother board ~$150: This is on special right now and is a real deal: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MBDGBM3535/Gigabyte-GA-B150M-D3H-Intel-B150-Chipset-for-LGA11

Send this to the build thread in the haus of tech support or whatever it is called to verify the build in the event I hosed up. It is also very cursory on my part.

As for sports, start out by going to the pools. No one cares you are there, just a bunch of people having fun in the water and you can acclimate as long as you like. It's pretty cheap with no commitments. Something easier would be jogging outside, same thing but with far less people. Once you got the feel for that move up to team sports. If you are in the Auckland area especially in the West, I am the President of a Badminton club there and I would gladly glad hand you to join and to give you guidance within the confines of the sport.

We have plenty of folks who are 97% friendly(Always an rear end in a top hat somewhere) and we assign you a skill level placing you with people who are similar who will very much welcome and look out for you. As your skills go up, you go up with it. and we mix you up so we pair you with our top players here and there. We are also planning to do training to improve your skills and if you don't want to play the main game before you feel confident enough you don't have to play, just come for the training.

Bring yourself, some court shoes(Anything that won't damage or mark the courts) a bit of money(First time is free) and we(I) will lend you a racket. Membership makes playing cheap as chips and you get clothing that makes you belong even more.

The new season won't start until sometime in Feb and I will likely not be there for the start, but once I am back I will help induct you. Even though I was in a poo poo state for a long time playing sports was one of my anchors. I will point you to the facebook page if any of you are interested.

Okay well me being wrong in some limited situations doesn't change my overall point.
I've gamed on a lappy for a while now, I did buy a desktop for the first time in years a few months ago and yeah it's better. But, I played all sorts on my core i7, nvidia gt745m, 8 GB lappy. It's about 3 years old now and it was 1800 new.

GTAV, MGS5, and I'd bet the Witcher 3 would run fine. I recently played the linux version of mad Max on it (I replaced windows since I didn't need it for gaming) and all of these were acceptable :)

You could probably grab something with an Nvidia 9xxm in it and be fine. Choose a model and search YouTube and you'll find plenty of people showing off games run on classes of GPUs. There is also notebookcheck website which ranks GPUs.

For example, a brief look at Noel leeming I found this https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/computers-tablets/laptops/laptops/hp-15-au073tx-15-notebook/prod146976.html

And here is YouTube of someone on similar specs https://youtu.be/glS3xGyr0t8

A other option that I've been heavily using over the past 3 months is steam streaming, to my old laptop - it's really unbelievable it works as well as it does - fine on wifi, almost perfect on wired. I do use a steam controller though, so that helps tie the experience together.

No one knows who the gently caress they're voting for in the DHBs anyway, and NZ can't have that many competent managers to go around.

Basically the idea that the populace of a region has any control over the state of their DHB is utterly bogus, you get control over it by what's effectively a lottery, and no one knows what's going on in there on a daily basis because for most people they might see the inside of a hospital once every 5 years or so.

Hamilton is a pretty big city in New Zealand

Regions have resisted centralisation for yonks. While I agree that no one know the gently caress they are voting for, people tend to like the idea of firing someone by voting in another nobody if the poo poo gets shitter.

A lot of people aren't comfortable with someone from the other side of the ranges or the other island w/e telling them how much money will be spent on service x and y. Probably why the nats have had such a difficult time merging various local governments. Nz is small, but it's difficult to administer services to say Te Anau, or Te Araroa, from wellington. Requires bureaucracy to execute, which already exists in regions/local government.

It's frustrating at times yes, but we've done ok by it so far. I'd rather have DHB than a CHE.

There is little reason to get older GPUs as you can get a modern one for about the same price nor better with more performance on a desktop. If you need a laptop for some reason and you don't care about features there are always ex-lease for about $500.

The older models with 9xxm is workable but is instantly obsolete with little life left especially now that consoles are starting to short cycle. But people have different levels of acceptableness so klen dool's advice is worth a look as they fall around 1.5K+. Another thing to note is the 10xx series runs a fair bot more efficiently but gaming on a laptop while not hooked to mains is going make you regret it when the battery gives out after an hour+. In any case, go into laptops with low expectations.

The build I put up should last quite a few years with a GPU upgrade option maybe even up to 5 years down the line if you are not picky and stick around 1080p.

They are already maxed out even with the lowest settings and lower resolution. You're not going to get far with newer games. Again, have low expectations

MGS5 was a masterpiece of gameplay and optimisation. You would think that would almost run on anything, it's like the anti-crysis.

edit: that laptop's HDD is the worse thing about it and would need another ~$100 to fix.

Oh agreed, there are compromises to be made for sure, and I'd agree with the advice to replace the HDD with an SSD. I did end up playing older games a lot as well, stalker ran fantastically on the gt745m on high settings (no dynamic shadows though) and there are heaps of games 2+ years old that a 9xx or 10xx mobile GPU will handle nicely.

At the time, the convenience of a laptop and comfort of couch gaming were worth the compromises for me. I sit at a desk all day typing and I don't want to come home and do the same. Now with a steam controller I can still couch game, but on a desktop :)

Also, I got that 1800 lappy for 1200 which made it an amazing deal. My missus brought a mixer, but they accidentally under charged her by $200 - nearly half. She didn't notice for a few days, but when she did we went down the next Saturday to pay the difference. They were loving stoked, like so happy about it that they offered us anything in the store for cost. I just so happened to be looking for a new lappy at the time so bam 1200 and I sold my old one for 200 so really I only paid 1000.

Funny thing is there is no mobile 10xx GPU, it's the same as the desktops with a laptop form factor that will run as fast as the thermals allow to the same desktop output. The line for Nvidia is blurring quite a bit in that regard.

That is a drat good deal. So did you pay them the $200 difference or were glad they could reconcile the difference? $200 dollars unaccounted for at the till is all sorts off red flags and witch hunts.

Depends on your expectations I guess.

Personally I don't think a 940MX (especially the DDR3 version like will be in that crummy HP) is suitable even for older stuff - my proper quad core with an 850M certainly isn't and IIRC that card is still a fair bit faster
