Thanks to the magic of youtube, even the most ephemeral parts of our culture are now preserved forever. We can go back and recapture fleeting memories. Commercials we are nostalgic for, ones that are funny, and ones that are terrible. Our favorites and least favorites! A prime example: television ads. We can now go back and amaze ourselves with just how low-tech and corny commercials were. No specific rules for this thread, besides I want to focus on old commercials, which for me means before 2000 and preferably before 1990, but I know the nostalgia window will be different for some of you. Posting from all countries, and all sorts of products, is encouraged. Low-fi and problematic are bonuses here. Also, if anyone wants to get help identifying a commercial, this is the place to do it!

Just to start out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gKQ8paZ8Lc The interesting thing about this video is that at the time, this was a big budget, high production value video. Its for a national product, it has multiple actors and scenes that are cut between themselves, and it has its own jingle! This was a big deal in the 1980s!

Here is a low production value commercial from the 1980s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3uonDnrvZU Its just someone sitting in front of a table, talking about the product. With a few intercut shots of the product being used. And an announcer's voice. Like this commercial looks like it was made in two hours for a few hundred dollars. And it was played a lot, mostly during daytime television. Its hard to imagine how this commercial would be made today, or if it would be made at all.

Edit: gently caress, you've gotta be kidding me. This is from the 90s, but it's seared into the brain of anyone growing up around that time: https://youtu.be/4rqZZgVxnCk It includes a feature of every commercial from that time: interior lighting that looks like a supernova has gone off outside.

The star of this ad was in area commercials for years and years. His personality was always supercharged in them, but harmless. Then this popped up. Mister Kingdom posted:How many commercials are inspired by modern art? Growing up in the 1980s, when we had three types of candy bars, and food was much less diverse than it is now, I remember seeing these commercials and they just seemed like the most sensuous, sophisticated and foreign food item available. Even though, of course, Nestle's claim to "make the very best" is suspect.
