though to be fair the same issue also had random policemen and people being incredible assholes to a little kid for no right reason
so it may just be that 90% of people in eva world are massive bastards

Hilariously, all of those terrible things could feasibly have been orchestrated by Gendou and/or Yui in advance. I wouldn't put it past either of them.

Personally I'd love to see a game where both GGG and Evangelion are part of the cast from the very start. Watching Gendou's plans run headfirst into COURAGE TURNS 1% INTO 100% would be phenomenal.

This just ends with Hot Blooded Shonen-Dad Gendo from the Shinji Ikari Raising Project. (And hopefully a lot less creepy fanservice.)

I want to see this because at that point I think Banpresto is basically obligated to finally make Cruel Angel's Thesis a usable battle BGM. Let's have them share space with Gurren Lagann and G Gundam again, too, plus Machine Robo, why not. Surround Shinji with the maximum possible amount of determination. Pretty sure he'd be so hot-blooded at that point that he'd learn Valor earlier than Dancougar pilots.

They should also have the plot go completely off the rails, like have Gendo get (seemingly) killed off super early and force GGG to handle the Evas and Angels instead.

I have an idea to expand upon this, but it's gonna have to wait another half-dozen or so chapters to avoid spoilers. Just so it won't feel all out of left field when the time comes and I describe the best possible way to end such a crossover.

Alpha 3 is the closest you'll get to this. Of course, you'll have to deal with all of Alpha 3's issues (like jumping head first into the final chapter of a 4 game story arc, for instance) during your playthrough, but that's expected.

And Shinji's already gone through his development from Alpha 1. It's still nice to hear him call out Gendo on running away.

I'd play it.

If not just because the Ramiel fight would inevitably involve the use of the Eraser Head XL, the positron rifle missing, and then Choryujin taking the hit with its chest shield. The Ireul episode would see Entouji flex his ridiculous programming skills and, between he and Ritsuko, manage to-- I don't even know, sequester the Angel inside a toaster or something.

And the Israfel counterattack would involve installing sympa-rate monitors into Unit 01 and 02, because obviously you can only beat that kind of coordination by reaching 200% synchronization.

I think I might watch too much giant robot stuff.

So... The Edel Bernal then? I admit, I wouldn't mind if they used them again just cause they're so much fun.

That would actually be kind of great, instead of going around and playing every side against each other, he could go around and derail everyone's long term plans at random.

Location: Spiral Castle

Our people now have both GEARs and the Data Weapons and the Spiral Castle is not happy in the slightest.
This cannot be allowed to stand and he’s willing to even outright destroy this world himself to make it happen. With that in mind, tells Absolute and Witter to prepare for takeoff. Their target: Earth.

Location: GEAR HQ

Misumaru’s just finished briefing our people on the upcoming Operation Bagration. Ruri pokes at how they outright ripped the name off the Soviets’ Operation Bagration back in WW2 (named after Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration, Russian general in the Napoleonic wars).
The gist of this operation will be to gather all MP Dragoons and MSs for an all-out assault on the Gulfer, Vegans, Giganos AND Martian Successors. In other words, Bright surmises, it’ll strike at every space-based enemy. Misumaru makes a haiku/pun about the name andUUUUUUURRRGH. It’s an awful, huge stretch of a pun and even Ruri calls him out on it.

The operation will be going down in a week from now and, of course, we’ll be right in there. Meteor sounds the alarm right then, detecting the Spiral Castle’s departure from the moon. It’s already on its way to Earth and will be reaching it in twelve hours.
Misumaru will organize a fleet of ships to intercept and he also wants us to get there ASAP.

By the hangar, Inoue has just finished making some modifications to the Dendoh and, with that, the bot can now be piloted by just one person. Ryouko finds it odd that they couldn’t do that before and Vega says the Dendoh and Ogre are essentially the same machine, and both draw upon the synchronized movements of two pilots. The Ogre simply has a special system in place to artificially mimic the lone pilot’s movements.
So, Inoue’s just installed the same system on the Dendoh, meaning it’s also good to go. Knowing that our upcoming battles will have humanity pit all it has against the Gulfer, Vega figured we needed to do the same. Thus, we’ll be fielding the Ogre as well. But who’ll pilot the thing?
Hokuto says he will, figuring it’s his responsibility what with Altair being his uncle. Which means Ginga will be handling the Dendoh and both kids are ready to make it work. Vega inwardly thanks Hokuto for stepping up, sure that Altair will also be happy to hear it.

Saburouta is quite impressed with the sight of both GEARs and the six Data Weapons fighting together. Eris is also confident we’ll emerge victorious even against the mighty Spiral Castle. Hokuto and Ginga echo the feeling – we just need to pool together everything we’ve got and we’ll send the Gulfer packing but good.
With that in mind, Vega says that in order to stop the Spiral Castle, we’ll need to head inside and strike at its core reactor. The Federation’s troops will go in first to disperse the enemy vanguard and, then, our squad will move in. This one attack will be called “Operation Screw Nail”, and we’re the tip of the proverbial nail.
Before that, though, Ginga asks Vega to leave for a bit.

: …I repeat: due to the approach of the Gulfer’s Spiral Castle, citizens all across the globe are encouraged to evacuate. Follow the instructions of your local police officers and Federal soldiers and find the closest shelter to your location. (He’s on TV.)
: Did you pack everything, Otome? We’ll be going to the shelter very soon.
; Um, mommy… what about Gin?
: Gin is…

*Door opens.*

: Mom…
: Oh, Ginga…
: Yay! Gin’s here!
: Heheh… It’s been a little while, huh, Otome?
: Hey…
: What?
: What are those dance clothes for?
: Ack--…?! N-No! They’re…!
: Hm?
: ...
: Th-These are... um… you know…
: I… I’m actually the Dendoh’s…
: Ginga… I know. I’ve known all along…!
: Huh…?!
: But you kept it a secret, so I did the same… Still, I hoped you would, eventually, tell us. And I’m so glad you did, Ginga… I really am…!
: Mom…

*Wiiiiirrrrrr.*

: …
: …
: Wah! A lion and a piggy! You kept your promise!
: They’re not stuffed toys but, yeah … And you got the first one right but the other isn’t a pig – he’s a wild boar.
: Nice to meet you, Mr. Lion and Mr. Wild Piggy!
: …
: …
: I’m gonna have to take off again, with them and Hokuto… and everyone at the Magnate Ten. But I swear I’ll come back…
: Good luck, Gin!
: Yup, yup!
: Gin…!
: Yeah?
: Do you… do you remember what I told you before?
: Strength comes from the heart…!
: Right?
: …Right. Stay strong and come back safe.
: Yeah, I promise!

Location: Skull Moon Base

Big man King Vega and his weird hat have come over. Gandal gives him the royal welcome to the base, though does wonder what brought him here when they’re just about to complete their preparations to take over Earth. Indeed, Zuril figured he could simply wait for the good news back at Planet Vega…
Or not, as the king says the homeworld has been lost – utterly obliterated from the face of the universe. He shows his lieutenants footage of the Vegan satellite Zeta 4, where the Veganium is mined to provide the majority of Planet Vega's energy.

Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened and one of the Vegatron mines exploded, setting off a chain reaction across the others that eventually blew Zeta 4 to pieces. The resulting Vegatron fallout reduced the planet's surface to a dead wasteland. At first the king and his peoples took shelter in the underground but the aftermath of Zeta 4’s explosion was wreaking havoc across the surface. The stores of Vegatron up top started blowing up one after the other and, ultimately, the planet shared the fate of its former satellite. The place is space dust now.

So, Vega rounded up whatever survivors there were and brought them over here. In other words, those at the Skull Moon Base are the last of the last. With their homeworld gone, their sole option is to conquer Earth by any means necessary.
But what has happened instead? Duke Fleed and his collaborators have brought their invasion to a screeching halt! Gandal stammers that a lot happened but King Vega is hardly interested in excuses.

The King’s heard news that the Gulfer’s base has departed, meaning its very likely Duke’s group will move to intercept them. They must make use of this opportunity to eliminate them all!
Gandal swears to personally see that it is done but Balendos speaks up, saying it’s his duty as captain of the royal guard to tackle this. King Vega is rather doubtful that these two can pull it off after their many failures. No, he’ll entrust this task to someone he brought along with him.

It’s one of the most uninspired villain designs I’ve ever seen, one that could very well be a mook if not for the fact that he has eyes: Mors, and Balendos is surprised he’s still alive. Gandal has heard of the man, prince of Planet Moor and member of the royal guard. Problem, is he’d also heard the guy and his Jigajiga mech were engulfed in a cosmic storm and gone MIA.
Yet, he survived and returned from the blackness of space even as meteors and cosmic rays reduced his mech to a legit skeleton. King Vega praises his loyalty and tenacity, fitting of a leader of the royal guards… in fact, he now IS the leader of the royal guards!

King Vega tells the appalled Balendos that he’s fired and to take some time to think on his shortcomings. Meanwhile, Mors is honored and gladly accepts the post and the mission: he’ll destroy Duke Fleed in the name of King Vega, the one who saved him after Planet Moor was destroyed.
Off he goes, then, to repay King Vega for the trust placed on him. He’ll destroy Duke Fleed, the one who threatens universal peace, even if it takes his life!

Whoa, déjà vu.

As King Vega sneers at how dedicated the guy is, Balendos and Gandal wonder if this is the best choice. Mors is prince of a conquered world AND a very close friend of Duke Fleed, so why give command to a potential traitor? Zuril and King Vega are certain that will never happen – the guy’s loyalty is absolute. Before that’s explained, though, the king’s daughter, Rubina, stomps in and spills the beans: they’re changed and overwritten Mors’ mind.
But, yes, three years ago, after the Vegan army conquered Moor, they took the guy prisoner. It’d have been a shame to simply kill him, though, so Zuril went and messed with his memories to make it look like Duke was the one who wrecked his world while King Vega saved him. So, now, Duke’s old friend hates him with every fiber of his being.
Still, Gandal and Balendos argue that they shouldn’t make light of Duke and his cohorts but King Vega already has a backup plan. Should Mors fail, he’ll simply blow the guy up along with Duke.

Rubina seems ill at ease and starts to leave – she meet with Duke face-to-face, which is why she came here to Earth. Yeah, no, the guy is the Vegan Empire’s sworn enemy… but, in Rubina’s eyes, he’s still a very dear person. King Vega is not happy to see that she is still hung up on the guy and that’s all the more reason to not allow her to set foot outside.
As a mook shows up to escort her out, she yells that she has something she NEEDS to tell Duke. While Zuril’s ears perk up at that, she begs King Vega to stop his battle with the guy. Not happening, and he orders her taken away.

Zuril sighs at how much more beautiful Rubina’s gotten since last he saw her but, unfortunately, the eight years did nothing to eliminate the love she had for Duke while they were together as children. King Vega had his daughter live in the care of King Fleed as a way to make him lower his guard for the eventual invasion but, in hindsight, that was a bad move.
King Fleed’s idea was to have Duke and Rubina marry as a way to foster peace between both their worlds, Zuril’s heard. But, regardless, King Vega is leaving her in his care and he may even take her as his servant. He hopes that once Duke is out of the picture, his daughter will finally pipe down.

Balendos speaks up again, begging the king to let him fight our guys as well – he swears to crush us as a way to save his honor as guard captain. Fine, fine, he lets him go as Mors’ rearguard and if he manages to take us out, he’ll be reassigned to his commission. But should he fail, he'd best not show his face before Vega again.
That’s all he needed to hear and Balendos asks Zuril if a certain army of robots is ready to go. Of course – why does he think Zuril worked with the Hundred Demons for? He’s completed the bots with the material earned.
Excellent. Duke and the Magnate Ten are about to feel the full might of the proud, tenacious Balendos!

Mission 38 – In the Name of Our Once-Sworn Peace

Our people are already headed towards the Spiral Castle, with Linda reporting that the Dragoon squads have already started engaging the Gulfer. Once the enemy’s vanguard is dispersed, it should be simple enough to break into the Castle.
But then Megumi detects some very non-Gulfer signals headed towards us: the Vegans, at the worst possible moment. Misato didn’t well expect the enemy to simply ignore what was going on but this doesn’t help in the slightest. Quattro says we can’t afford to waste time here and miss our opening, so he suggests we put the pedal to the metal and force our way out of here.
Bright agrees and is on the verge of sending everyone out when Rose notes an incoming transmission from the Vegans: it’s Mors, demanding Duke come out. He’s here to get vengeance for his compatriots!

Duke recognizes his voice and immediately deploys, followed by everyone else. He’s shocked to see Mors alive, who proclaims he won’t die until he’s made him pay for his destroyed world. And, no, he doesn’t believe Duke when he says otherwise.
Kyoshiro figures the guy’s an old acquaintance of Duke’s but this hardly strikes Nana as a happy reunion. Duke cries at the guy to stop this nonsense – the two of them were the greatest of friends. NO, REVENGE! It was the Vegans who wrecked his world! King Vega saved him and he’ll kill Duke as a way to pay him back!

This is going nowhere fast but Duke couldn’t bring himself to kill his dear friend. Foul play is obviously at work but what can he do? “What are you doing, Duke Fleed?! If you truly believe in your friend, then why don’t you ante up your life and bring the truth to light?!” Domon yells.
Maria says that’s crazy as Mors is really trying to kill him but Duke agrees with his assessment: he DOES believe in Mors, so he’ll have no fear. The only way to show Mors the truth is to go right up there and make him listen. We’re still in the middle of Operation Screw Nail, though, so Duke tells us to get going and let him handle this.

Losing the Grendizer will costs us but Domon says he’ll cover for Daisuke’s absence, so there should be no problem. When asked, he says he’s well aware of the pain ignorance of the truth leading one to fight friends and family. Rain knows where he’s coming from, having been tricked by Ulube into fighting his brother after he’d been captured by the Devil Gundam.
Either way, Harry tells Ruri that we’ve eighty minutes before Phase 3 of Screw Nail starts, so she figures we can spare five minutes helping Duke here. She argues to Bright that this might also help us gain some intel on the Vegans, so he allows it.
Five minutes is the limit, though, so Duke promises to make it work in that window. Meanwhile, Mors is still yelling about making an offering to the deceased out of Duke’s corpse.

Mission Objective: Within five turns, have Duke convince Mors
Mission Failure: Mors show down before convincing, Grendizer, Nadesico or Argama destroyed, five turns pass without completing the victory condition.

Different from the usual stuff but not difficult, provided you don’t dilly-dally. There are a good bunch of enemy units and they’ll be blocking Duke’s path quite nicely, so you’ll want to have folks plow the road for him. MAPWs can certainly make this easier and, if necessary, you can always slap a Megabooster on the Grendizer.

Oh, and as a side note, you might want to deploy Boss in the Borot for this mission. I hope you’ve been keeping him leveled up!

On to more interesting things, the Cellbooster has been upgraded again: it is now the Cellbooster Valhalla. An S in space means it’ll dodge nicely and the new Long Range Beam Cannon gives it a huge boost in range plus a new strongest attack – it also has more Dendoh batteries.
Its stronger weapons are still pre-movement, so Hit & Away on Vega or Kirakuni is always nice.

And the Ogre is finally available to us. As it was said before, it is pretty much the Dendoh – the only difference is that the available Data Weapons are limited to the pilot. Since Hokuto is manning it, the Ogre can only use the Unicorn, Dragon, Viper and Kiba. Conversely, the Dendoh has the Leo, Bull, Boar and Kiba.
The two GEARs together also have a new combined attack (point-blank range but post-movement) for added stopping power but… in truth, I don’t think this split works out in our favor.

One of the reasons why I love the Dendoh so much is that Ginga and Hokuto’s complement each other perfectly: Ginga has the power, Hokuto has the defenses, Hokuto has range, Ginga has offense. Taking them apart only gives you two good units instead of a great one and in a game with so many great units and limited space, that’s not a worthwhile exchange.
And that’s saying nothing about the fact that the FAs are still quite stronger than the combined attack and have a whole lot more range, so not even the new weapon compensates for the split.
Still, we're just gonna have to make do for now.

Nothing in range, so we all move onward.

Enemy Phase!

Excellent, some Midifoos go for Tetsuya.

He’s getting very close to fifty kills.

Player Phase!

Boss is doing well. He takes a kill while Tetsuya nabs another two.

The Saucerbeasts all know support defense now, so double attacking and taking out the core of their formation will make things quicker.

By the way, the EVA-01’s new S² Engine means Shinji’s now free of the power cord. The Engine’ll give him a full EN restore every turn.

Rom, Domon, Light and Camille start picking apart the Gilgil groups.

Next one.

Done.

Duke picks whatever’s close as he keeps moving.

Enemy Phase!

I’d moved the Zeorymer closer and the enemies start making a beeline for it.

Listen, if they insist on gathering right around my biggest MAPWer, then I can’t be held responsible for doing what’s natural.

The Koakoa’s do the same, though they’re gunning for Duke.

On the right side, EVERYTHING goes after Rom and he immediately reduces them to the consistency of fudge.

Player Phase!

Now we reap the benefits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Derbp6p_Y8Q
Here’s the Valhalla’s strongest weapon. Pretty good and perfect for setting up these Command-boosted support attacks with ships.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgjW0mGqvkA
Hokuto putting that training with Kazuya and the Shuffles to good use. Ginga didn’t teach him how to make cool poses, though.

Some of you may wonder if this isn’t getting too cheesy on my part.

No, there is no such thing as SRW approaches the endgame. Celerity is not being cheap!

And the Koakoa’s survived since I didn’t use Valor, so Boss, Tetsuya and Kouji take them out.

That’s all the mooks, so fast forward a turn while I get Duke over to Mors.

Here we go.

: Do you hear me, Mors?!
: Oh, I do! I’ve never once forgotten the voice of the man who destroyed my homewold!
: You need to open your eyes! It was the Vegan Empire that destroyed your world, not me!
: After all this time, you’re now trying to fool me?!
: Do you not remember the ties of friendship between Planet Fleed and Moor? We each studied in each other’s worlds, leaning the wonderful science of our peoples!
: What…?
: You need to remember, Mors! All the years we spent as children studying, playing and building an unbreakable friendship!
: You’re saying I was friends with you…?!
: That’s right, Mors! You were there with me on Planet Fleed when the Vegans attacked!
: I-I was…?!
: And before you left for your homeworld, we swore to each other that we’d live and meet up again… Have you forgotten the vow we took?!
: S-Silence! You won’t confuse me!
: Mors!
: He really can’t do anything, then?
: I wouldn’t say that… If we’re dealing with some sort of mind control, a sufficiently large shock might be able to free him.
: Yeah! Wasn’t that how Duke saved me way back when?!
: When?
: You mean that Robot Museum thing?
: Yeah, that!
: …Though it’s not a particularly proud moment of mine, mind you.
: But how are we supposed to do this…?
: Mors… as everything burned around us, we swore to see each other again… and I’m ready to roll the die on the chance that we can carry out that promise!
: “Roll the die”…?!
: Yes, I’ll destroy that Vegan Beast in hopes that the shock will kick-start his lost memories!
: Hold on! If anything goes wrong, he's a goner!
: I will not allow that to happen…! I will save him!
: Alright… If you’re that committed, then I’ll lend a hand!
: Not “I”, Kazuya. We will lend a hand.
: Lt. Makibi, what’s the status on the allied forces?
: They’re pulling back in order to draw the RoBeast groups away. It’s likely the Federal troops will end their side of the operation without suffering any casualties.
: Meaning, if we wait, things will only get harder for us.
: Still… things will be getting harder anyway, regardless of what we do.
: That’s true.
: Which means we can go and back Daisuke on his gamble!
: And, really, this operation already is one huge gamble. Getting one or two smaller ones rolling on the side won’t change anything.
: Besides, it’s not like we could just ignore the Vegan army prowling about.
: Everyone…!
: Operational priority is still to break through this sector ASAP. Daisuke, it’s up to you to handle Mors.
: I understand. Thank you, Captain.
: Save the thanks for after you’ve succeeded. There’s only room for certainty now.
: Yes, sir!
: And if that’s decided, let’s get to it! Go save your friend, Duke Fleed!
: Absolutely! Wait for me, Mors!
: Looks like you’re finally ready to fight! But I and my Jigajiga have braved and returned from the darkness of space – you’d best not underestimate us!

(His Jigajiga is piss weak and barely qualifies as a miniboss.)

: Blasted earthlings! If you’re in Duke Fleed’s camp, then you, too, are my enemies!
: You moron! Weren’t you friends with Duke before?! Why the hell aren’t you even trying to listen to him now?!

: Oho… So even Earth has its share of capable warriors, huh?
: Thanks for the compliment but I really rather not fight one of my comrade’s friends.

And there he goes. I could have waited a turn to finish him off with Duke but naaah.

Here are the convos we missed with Mors:

: Mors! I promise I’ll save you!
: What nonsense is this?! You are my enemy… and you’ll die by mine and Jigajiga’s hands!

--

: Open your eyes, Prince Mors! My brother doesn’t not really want to fight you!
: You’re Duke Fleed’s sister? I’ve no quarrel with you but I’ll show no mercy if you’re allied with him!!

The pain starts messing with Mors’ head, who begs King Vega to stop. Seems like we might be onto something but Mors ejects from his exploding mech right then.
Maria tells Duke to go after the escape pod and he does.

Inside the pod, Mors has set a new anime record and has ALREADY recovered his memories. He recognizes the relieved Duke but is very confused as to what’s going on; after a quick explanation, he does recall being captured by King Vega and placed in some weird machine.
Regardless, he’s very apologetic for trying to kill his best friend – not that Duke cares to blame him for it. He remembers being a guest at Fleed’s royal palace when the Vegans attacked and Duke saving his life as the place burned down. With Duke’s help, he escaped to his world but kept Duke’s muffler as symbol of their promise to meet again – a muffle he’s wore even to this day.
Mors owes it to Duke for freeing him of the mind control and vows to pay him back in any way he can, so Duke invites him to fight at our side and keep Earth from also falling to the Vegans. On that subject, Mors does have an interesting bit of information: the King himself has come to the Skull Moon Base.

He relates the end of Planet Vega and how the only way they’ll truly end this battle is by defeating King Vega. If he can help make that happen – plus, get revenge for his world – then Mors is more than willing to help.
Their heart-to-heart is interrupted when explosions are heard outside. Kouji gets in touch and says Balendos has just shown up – Duke needs to get back outside. Time to give the guy a taste of Fleedian and Moorian rage.

Duke and Mors rejoin our team and Balendos is not amused to see that the guy’s recovered his memories – time for plan B. He flips a switch and the Jigajiga starts exploding. Mors realizes they had a self-destruct device installed in it and Balendos confirms: having forgotten his loyalty to King Vega, Mors can die along with Duke.
Or not, as Mors decides to make use of the slow-acting device to fly towards the Vegans. He promises not to forget Duke’s friendship again, even in death. Consider this his atonement to Duke as well as payback to the Vegans for everything they did.

Before he goes, though, he yells out that the Skull Moon Base is hidden in the dark side of the moon. With a request that Duke strike down the destroyers of Moor and return peace to the universe, he bids farewell to his eternal friend and takes a bunch of saucerbeasts in the explosion.
Balendos fumes at Mors for defying them even at his last breath but Duke yells that heartless monsters like him have not right to berate him. “Heart”? Nonsense. Power is the driving force of the universe and it is what brought Planet Fleed and Moor to heel.
Kouji and Tetsuya aren’t about to listen to his sickening rhetoric, so Balendos decides to make a more tangible example.

: A-Are those?!
: Great Mazingers?!
: You think that cheap bluff’s gonna scare us?! I bet those’re just saucerbeasts underneath!
: Or maybe 3D models?
: No, those Greats aren’t like that!
: What?!
: Hmhmhm… Unfortunately for you, these Great Mazingers are all the real deal.
: You think we’re stupid?! How the hell could you make…
: ! O-Oh, no…!
: Oh, yes. I made sure to collect a bunch of data on the Great Mazinger when I stole it.
: So those really are…!
: 100% legitimate models. Or, rather, they’re better than the original because we’ve also integrated our own tech into them.
: No…!
: Your planet’s beloved guardian hero has become a demon now! So, fight! Gape in fear! And DIE!!
: Hah…hahahah.
: What’s so funny, Tetsuya Tsurugi?!
: Have you said all you had to say, you petty thief?
: You…!
: You have absolutely no grasp on the essence of the heart – or even the essence of strength.
: Sure, strong mechs are powerful by themselves…
: But it is the heart of those who pilot them that brings forth all that power!
: So all you’ve managed to build are a bunch of cheap imitations!
: I-Imitations?!
: In the words of the wise, it’s one of those “plowing the field and forgetting the seed” kind of things… then again, it’s not like you would ever understand.
: Psh, now that is an actual cheap bluff!
: Then we’ll simply have to teach you that the root of true strength is always a person’s heart!
: And that your heartless puppets are hardly enough to frighten us!
: Indeed… we will not be beaten by people who do not grasp the value of the human heart!
: Rrrgh…! Great Army, attack! Slaughter them!
: This is for all those who love peace and are eagerly awaiting our victory… and for the pledge I made with Mors! Balendos! This is where I end your life!!

Oh, no, Mors died. :arghfist::geno:

With that stuff out of the way, we can now focus on the actually significant part of this fight.

Ask me about being the best dad ever.

Enemy Phase!

The enemies are still moving over.

Player Phase!

Off we go.

Parried! Shinji follows up on Asuka, killing the Bong.

Keep with the chain attacks as the Zumezume’s also have support defense.

There it goes, along with their defensive formation.

Rom needs a wee bit more morale.

Very dead.

Ginga and Duke take out the last Bong, while Masato starts working on our next prey.

Enemy Phase!

Hey, Jigura’s also here.

: Duke Fleed! I’ll be claiming your head today, even if it kills me!
: Not happening! I won’t allow anyone to kill me before I’ve destroyed King Vega!

Not the cheapest attack but I had to start taking his shield away.

Most mooks, again, make the mistake of ganging up on Rom. Better for me.

At least Balendos’ Great is beefier than the Mother Burn he usually rocks.

Player Phase!

I could nuke everyone with the Zeorymer but we don’t want to this time.

: Pitting the best of friends against one another… that is unforgivable!
: Are you going to preach above love, friendship and trust? Well, I put no stock into such things! There is only one thing that governs the universe… And that’s power!

That’s everything in there weakened.

Use a few attacks to get rid of Jigura’s support defense (and shields, while at it), then weaken this Great Mazinger here…

Perfect!

:siren: Secret Alert! :siren:

: Psyche yourselves up, Nuke, Mucha! We can’t get taken out by these phony Greats!
: You got it, Boss!
: Still… you think we could take one of these back with us?
Whaaa?!
: Yeep! W-We’re sorry!
: Well, ain’t that a nice idea! Alright, let’s just break one of these down a bit and take it home!

:thurman:

: Yeaaaah, boy! This one’s ours now!

And there we go. Have Boss kill any MP Great (Balendos’ doesn’t count, I don’t think) and he’ll steal the thing for us.

No need to hold anything back now. Next turn, it’s MAPW city.

We’ll deal with Jigura in the meantime.

: If you’re going to intrude on my battle with Duke Fleed, Kouji Kabuto, then I’ll simply get rid of you first!
: Shut it! You creeps have really pissed me and Duke off today and you’re not getting out of here in one piece!

: Tetsuya Tsurugi… I am blessed to be able to cross swords with a warrior of your caliber.
: I’m honored… is what I’d say. Problem is, I don’t give props to villains!

: B-Blast you all! How can this be the end for me?!
: GWAAAAAAAAARGH!

Enemy Phase!

Masato is still tearing through his side.

Duke gets attacked on his side and weakens the MP Greats.

: Even if you pit the Great Mazinger against me, there will be no stopping my anger!

Player Phase!

Maybe I’ll give the ships some love.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkzA4SJp1j8
And now, about 70% through the game, we finally get to see Bright’s MAPW!

Valored MAPW from Ruri takes out the two Greats.

Wreck another one with Boss just for kicks, Tap snipes another one down and Masato shreds the Mother Burn with a valored Meioh.

Now for Balendos. And we need an appropriate song for this:

Sing along with Aniki! DASH, DASH!

: Oh, one who’s drowned himself in power… behold now the mightiest force of the universe: JUSTICE!
: Then I’ll take time to educate you on one thing: justice is not mighty… Rather, might is just!

: I’ve got a REAL big problem with folks who force friends to fight each other!
: Hah, don’t you get it? Watching you worms kill one another is our greatest source of amusement.
: You creep! I ain’t putting up with your sick hobbies!

: Heheheh… Once you’re all gone, I’ll set those Greats as the driving force of our galactic conquest.
: Hell, no! I’m not letting you turn our Mazingers into some evil mooks!

: Has King Vega really come to the moon, Balendos?!
: drat you, Mors… you and your big mouth…!
: Answer me, Balendos! Is he there?!
: I’ve no reason to answer the soon-to-be dead!

: Forcing friends to fight…
: That’s 100% unforgivable!
: Hmph… look at these brats, acting like they know what they talk about. How about you try fighting each other to the death first?
: Idiot! I’d never give up on Hokuto even if it came to blows with him!
: Me neither!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9b40U9QqJo
And here’s the combined attack!

Still, let’s rewind because there’s only one person fit to put this guy down.

: Hey, thief. If you wanted to play with your dolls, you should’ve stayed home.
: Play with my—?!
: A Mazinger only shows its true power after it’s paired with someone’s heart. These fakes of yours are no better than simple dolls!
: Curse you, Tetsuya Tsurugi…! You’ll pay for besmirching me with your life!
: It’s you who’ll pay in spades for stealing my Great, Balendos!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZUceAjTy04
:discourse:

: M-My Great Mazinger, beaten?! Impossible!
: This end serves you right, Balendos! Beaten by the very power you believed in so!
: Uuurgh! G-GLORY TO KING VEGAAAAAAAAAAAARRGGH!!

That’s everything down, so Bright has everyone come back to be resupplied. We’re headed for the Spiral Castle right after it’s done.
Duke and Maria now finally know where the Vegan stronghold is hidden but first order of business is dealing with the Gulfer fortress. Inwardly, Duke tells Mors to watch on as he fights to restore peace in the universe; and, as he promised, he’ll strike down King Vega with his own two hands.

Goodies earned today: a Space Alloy Gren, Apogee Motor and Megabooster.

As for convos we missed:

: Sorry… you’re only in this situation because I screwed up back then…
: The least I can do is set you free myself…!

--

: Forgive me, Great… No one here is enjoying the sight of you as a servant of evil…
: At the very least I will put you all out of your misery…!

--

: The Great’s as important to Tetsuya as a part of his own body…
: How dare you turn it into a force of evil… I’ll never forgive you for this!

--

: I won’t shy away from any foe, not even the Great! You’ve really angered me today!

--

: The Great was created to defend peace and you’re using it for evil?! You’ll pay!

--

: You’re not getting away today, Balendos!
: Nor would I want to, Getter Robo! The only way I’m getting back to the moon is over your carcasses!
: Then I’ll just have to show you the size of the strength that comes from the heart!

Back at the moon, Rubina is looking out to Earth – that beautiful blue world, which Duke is fighting to defend. Zuril walks on over, having been looking for her; he figured he ought to tell her that Balendos has fallen to the Magnate Ten.
More important to Rubina is the fact that Duke still lives, which means she needs to find a way out of here. She still has something to tell him – something concerning his homeland. Zuril can see what’s going on in her head and says that, unfortunately, Duke IS an enemy of the Vegan Empire. As such Zuril will personally have to see that he dies.
Rubina seriously doubts that Zuril’s ilk could actually win that fight and stomps out in a foul mood.

Gandal has a laugh watching one of the greatest womanizers of Planet Vega get scorned. Zuril huffs that Rubina’s heart would be his if Duke was out of the picture. Regardless, there are more pressing matters to think about : with the location of the Skull Moon Base revealed, the next battle is bound to be a big one.
The place is still hidden behind its camouflaging shield, though, so Gandal doesn’t think the earthlings will be able to find it. If anything, they’ll be keeping an eye on the battle at the Spiral Castle: whichever side loses that showdown, the Vegans will come out ahead.

And here’s our shiny new Mass Produced Great Mazinger. It’s exactly like the original, sans flight, the Great Booster and slightly worse stats.
Other than that, it can do everything and hits almost as hard. The kicker that makes this such a nice secret is that, one, any Mazinger pilot can man it and, two, it can still use the Double Lightning Buster with Tetsuya or Duke!
We are entering the age of fatso now!

As King Vega sneers at how dedicated the guy is, Balendos and Gandal wonder if this is the best choice. Mors is prince of a conquered world AND a very close friend of Duke Fleed, so why give command to a potential traitor? Zuril and King Vega are certain that will never happy – the guy’s loyalty is absolute. Before that’s explained, though, the king’s daughter, Rubina, stomps in and spills the beans: they’re changed and overwritten Mors’ mind.

That "happy" should probably be "happen". There's nothing happy about this.

Either way, Harry tells Ruri that we’ve eighty seconds before Phase 3 of Screw Nail starts, so she figures we can spare five minutes helping Duke here. She argues to Bright that this might also help us gain some intel on the Vegans, so he allows it.
Five minutes is the limit, though, so Duke promises to make it work in that window. Meanwhile, Mors is still yelling about making an offering to the deceased out of Duke’s corpse.

Wait, if they have eighty seconds, how the hell are they sparing five minutes, a whole 300 seconds? They'll be late for Phase 3 with even two minutes...

So wait, it can perform Double Lightning Buster with both the real Great and with Grendizer? Because that's pretty awesome, even if it lacks Double Burning Fire and Final Dynamic Special. That probably makes it one of the best non-protagonist units. It truly is the age of fatso.

The rare occasions when the MP Great, Minerva X, etc. are usable units are always fantastic for just this reason, letting the various support characters show their stuff without being stuck in mediocre-at-best units. I say alternate between Sayaka, Jun, Hikaru, and Maria each deployment, show off their voice clips for using Breast Burn, Thunder Break, and so on. Though, ultimately, Boss is almost always the best choice for the "leftover Mazinger" situation, as he usually still has Nuke and Mucha stuffed into the cockpit with him (though I recall at least one occasion when this isn't true). There's also the rare game where you can use the Getter Q full-time and Michiru becomes a viable pilot.

Fixed the stuff, thanks.

And yeah it works with either of them since it's still just both units using Thunder Break/Space Thunder. The joys of pallette swapping!

Jun's actually a better choice in MX, because Boss's stats are worse and his crew doesn't offer that much in the way of support spirits. In Alpha 3, Boss learns Daunt (10) as his last spirit, which is loving bananas.

Not to say that I'm not partial to Jun already, since she consistently has good stats and either Hope or Renew in an already immensely useful spirit pool.

"Any Mazinger character" tends to be everyone but Duke Fleed. I'm not sure, but I don't think he's ever been able to use anything but Grendizer, which tends to make handing it over to Maria a bad idea.

MX definitely isn't Maria's best showing, but she's not bad. Her main problem is probably that she's an evasion pilot in a game where the TFO can make even Boss functionally untouchable. Between her relatively low defence and complete lack of Prevail, I'd say this isn't the Mazinger for her, but you could probably make it work with a Psycho Frame or two.

Unplug the EVAs, spam MAPWs over an empty plot of land with Dendoh and/or Domon and they'll quickly run out of EN. Top them off, gain a level or two, repeat.

Moving in space consumes EN. Resupplying someone of equal level to yourself always nets you 200 XP. Solution: Have two resuppliers in a circlejerk in a space stage with no turn restrictions.

Didn't the entire group just watch the Eva pop its restraints and loving EAT an Angel? Sure, NERV could lie and say Shinji was in a coma after that instead of being Tanged, and Terra isn't going to say anything, but Rom was RIGHT THERE.

It's kind of forgivable, since EVA-01 just proved it's the only the thing that can kill the Angels, so Bright and crew aren't in a position to demand answers, but that's a really loving creepy "robot" to keep aboard the ship after that display.

Brunom1

Ask me about being the best dad ever.
Alright, I went and checked MXP's version of this and Banpresto DID see fit to make a few additions.

None involving the whole Magnate Ten folks BUT it does wrap things up with a nicer bow, indeed.

First addition is after folks fail to talk Shinji down and the Entry Plug pries itself open. As that happens, Rei has this monologue:

: (Don’t, Ikari... Come back... Don’t go over there…)
: …
: (… There’s always been this gaping void within me, like I’m no more than a doll made of straw… So often that scares me…)
: (I believe I’d been filling that void with thoughts of Commander Ikari… But… Before I realized, Ikari was there.
: (I didn’t think he’d recover after what happened with Suzuhara… but he did. He came back and he saved us…)
: (Please… Don’t take him away… Give him back to us…)

After THIS happens, Shinji sees that it's not his mom trying to convince him to stay.

Next change is after he has that talk with his actual mom. First off, atop of Rei and Misato's scent, he also smells the Magnate Ten's folks. The screen fades to white and then...

: … This is…
: Ikari…
: Ayanami… what happened to me…?
: You were assimilated by the #01… and almost went to the other side.
: …
: But… you came back.
: …Thanks.
: Why did you say that?
: I… I’m not sure… I just felt like saying it when I saw you.
: Hm… Still, I’m glad I could see your face again.
: …
: But… are you fine with this?
: Honestly, I don’t know… I don’t remember much of what happened when I was asleep…
: …
: But I’m also glad that I could see you again, Ayanami.

*Door opens.*

: Shinji!
: Misato…!
: Oh, I’m so… so happy you woke up…!
: Hey! Do you have any idea how worried you had us?! Huh?! Do you, idiot?!
: Asuka…
: …
: Ayanami… I think I’ve figured out something about myself…
: I… I want to be together with all of you and our friends of the Magnate Ten…
: Really…

Nicer, isn't it? Everything else after this mission is unchanged, mind. The Magnate Ten don't have any conversation regarding the EVA-01 incident, so I guess Banpresto really did figure NERV kept us in the dark.

I'll be adding the above scenes to the mission.

Mission 39 – Spiral Staircase Towards the End

Our people have arrived at the Spiral Castle’s sector and Linda reports that while the Federation’s having a bit of a hard time with the Gulfer forces, they’ve managed to draw quite a few away from here. That tells Bright that there’s little risk of us being caught in a pincer attack but, as Misato says, this is the enemy HQ and they still have plenty of troops left.
Regardless, we’re now starting phase three of Operation Screw Nail and as everyone deploys, Ruri asks Harry for a timer until the Spiral Castle is past the zero barrier, the point where we could stop its descent. That’s twenty eight minutes – any more than that and it’ll breach the atmosphere.

Still a decent amount of time but our battle with the Vegans lost us precious minutes already. Camille says it’s best we get ourselves in the mindset that we can’t afford to give this anything less than our best. And Judau agrees, knowing that something as big as the Spiral Castle crashing into Earth would be as destructive as a Colony Drop – if not more.
Worse, Amuro posits that the Spiral Castle is likely capable of somewhat altering its trajectory at will – we’ve no idea what would happen if he decided to crash anywhere near Tokyo Jupiter or NERV HQ.

Tap’s now wishing we had the Giganos’ Mass Driver still working – it’d probably make short work of this thing. Roux criticizes his thoughtless grumbling, reminding of the trouble everyone went through to destroy the thing. Sorry... But the thing was already destroyed when we got there, says Drill. That’s not the point! Sorry…
Time to get to work, then: Misato says we’re to break inside the Spiral Castle, find its main reactor and wreck the thing. Ginga and Hokuto are ready, working hard in Altair’s name as well – the Ogre and Dendoh, together with their friends, will bring down the Spiral Castle!
Inwardly, Vega asks her brother to watch: she, and the kids, will keep Earth safe from this thing. Kyral and Argo are hyped, getting a bit of déjà vu from the final battle against the Devil Gundam. Here we go!

Vega, Hokuto and Ginga have deployed as event units and I still can't bring the two kids back together. Losing either GEAR is a game over, so keep an especially close eye on Ginga since he doesn’t have the safety net of Hokuto’s Iron Wall.

First wave of enemies are still those baseline Gulfer, so we’ll quickly stomp them down.

As the Age of Fatso officially claims its first victim, Rom, Domon and Masato kill off all but one Gulfer.

This Gulfer.

First wave down.

Enemy Phase!

None of the Gulfer move!

Player Phase!

Now, there are two entry points into the Spiral Castle and they’re all guarded by four always-defending Faitas and a Knight Lock (used to call these Rock but Son Ryo pointed at the computer motif smacking me in the face :eng99: ). The plot-important one is closest, but the one in the back has an isolated room with a Haro.
We’ll be sending a couple folks up there.

The fact that these guys are hard-wired to defend makes things extra slow.

Still, you’re not on a timer so conserve your SP. At length, the Lock will go down and you’ll have your way in.

Enemy Phase!

The little Gulfers are waddling over but the RoBeasts can’t be arsed.

Player Phase!

Boss is leading the charge, of course.

No sooner does Megumi report our successful entry, six Knight Viruses emerge within. Still, it’s not like we weren’t expecting to get jumped. One thing that worries Masato is how few enemies there are – they likely have more stuff hidden. And, actually, Miku’s already pinging several energy blips on the other side of various walls.
When Puru Two asks, Hokuto and Ginga can’t really point out the way to the reactor – they weren’t exactly in a sightseeing mood last time they were here. Sai tells them not to sweat it, as we simply need to start knocking down those walls until we find our way to the castle’s center. That sounds right up our alley, Ryouko quips.
Vega does warn us to keep an eye out because there still are the other two Gulfer generals to be found. Ginga knows and is ready to kick the rear end of whatever pops out of the woodwork.
Here starts the final phase of Operation Screw Nail.

Three of the Viruses are on the far side of the castle, so we’ll quickly get rid of these.

Since Quattro’s my best mook hunter and Masato’s my best nuclear weapon, I’ll assign them to Haro-collecting duty.

Back here.

Business as usual. Tetsuya wraps this one up.

Next.

Hugo kills it.

There’s the last one.

Enemy Phase!

Baby Gulfer on this side all go after Masato. You know how that goes.

Meanwhile, Quattro is perfectly in position to tear poo poo up.

That’s all Orbitons losing 70% of their health.

Player Phase!

Ruri takes out the last Faitas by the southern entrance and Harry learns Hope.

We’ll start making our way deeper.

: We’ve been expecting you, humans.
: It’s—!
: Bigwig nº3!
: I will not allow any of you bacteria to be in my lord’s presence…! Let despair grip you as you plummet back to your planet!
: Quiet, you! That’s my line!
: Hey, think before you talk! We DON’T want the Spiral Castle falling on our world!
: Oh, r-right…!
: Bah, whatever – we don’t have time to waste here! Let’s take that thing out in a hurry!
: Y-Yeah!!

And behind door number two…

: Hmph… You’ve done well making it this far, humans.
: That’s—!
: Bigwig nº 2!
: Wait, wasn’t that the one we destroy the other day?
: Was it? Then this is bigwig nº 1!
: You dare play games before me? The audacity! Our castle will serve as your communal gravestone!
: Um, don’t you think it’s a bit too big for us humans?
: Indeed, it’d be incredibly inconvenient.
: Which means it’s up to us to break it down to a more manageable size – them included, of course.
: Hmhmhm, you struggle in vain. We stand as guardians of our lord as so long as we’re functional, you will not halt the Spiral Castle.
: What?!
: Hah, that’s where you’re wrong! We only need to wreck your reactor, so we can just ignore you guys!
: Fool. Such a task will be impossible without defeating us first.
: W-What’s that supposed to mean?!
: Do you think those two generals also act as some sort of safeguard for the reactor?
: Meaning we won’t be able to reach it until we deal with them?
: I think so, yes…!
: Then our fists will rend that safeguard apart! The real fight begins now, Ginga, Hokuto!
: Y-Yeah!

Machine General Giga Absolute
Pilot Skills:
  • Prevail L5
  • Support Attack L2
Giga Absolute’s Voice Actor: Kenji Nojima (Kirakuni, you’ve betrayed us!)

Machine General Giga Witter
Pilot Skills:
  • Prevail L5
  • Support Attack L2
Giga Absolute’s Voice Actor: Yasuhiro Takato (other known roles: Professor Inoue, Gluttony in Full Metal Alchemist, Russia in Hetalia and several more)

Absolute and Witter are pretty much the same, only the latter has more HP and defense in exchange for a bit less attack power and accuracy. Nothing some simple defensive spirits won’t fix.
Do note that they’re both sitting atop 20% HP/EN regen tiles, so stray hits won’t do much for you.
And a quick warning: try to have as many people ready to move as possible when you get them both down.

I’ll split people up for speed’s sake but I reckon the safest choice would be to take one at a time.

This is about the moment I realized Shinji couldn’t stab anything.

Couldn’t even deploy Asuka since our ships are too big to go inside buildings, meaning she’d have to unplug the #02.

Kouji and Tetsuya weaken this Knight Bug, paving the way for Ryouma to kill it.

Enemy Phase!

Quattro kills everything up top.

Cool.

On the western side, Tetsuya gets harassed by the Bugs.

It’s fine.

On the eastern side…

Death.

Player Phase!

So now it’s just a matter of holding the course steady: this turn we’ll clear out the remaining Bugs, next turn we kill Witter and, after refreshing our moves, we’ll take out Absolute.

Here are the cliffs notes:

Tetsuya now has fifty kills, which’ll give us a nice prize later on!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXU7qvJ0RLg
Witter’s weaker attack.

You can’t keep me away from treasure!

Only the Lock survives and Quattro cuts him in half.

Now, Giga Witter is up first.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LNfo1YYpC4
And his strongest attack, after getting a hole punched right through him.

: If you wish to stop the Spiral Castle, you’ll have to go over me… That is, if you can!
: We absolutely can and that’s what we’re here to do!
: drat straight! We believe in our own strength and know it’s not gonna let us down!

: Th-This cannot be! How could I have been beaten by these puny humans?!
: GWAAAAAAAAAH!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYN6h5zcl9U
Giga Absolute’s only attack. It looks pretty snazzy, though!

Meanwhile, Quattro nabs our prize.

With our new turn, we start opening the way up north. Start sending folks up there.

And get rid of the mooks, lest the block your path.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICkHL3M4z0g
And here’s Double Lightning Buster with two Greats, Boss showing that he’s done being the joke character.

: Blast you! How dare you worms do this to me! How dare you--! GAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!

: That’s both enemy generals confirmed destroyed!
: The way the main reactor should be open now. How long do we have on our deadline?
: About twenty—

*Alarm!*

: ?!

*RUUUUUUMBLE!*

: W-what’s going on?!
: The Spiral Castle’s shaking!
: But we haven’t even destroyed the reactor yet!

: Hrm…! Absolute and Witter have fallen…!
: Ah! Guys, I’ve confirmed the location of the main reactor!
: You sure?!
: Yeah, I think the safeguard fell through! I’ve no doubt that’s what these energy readings are! Here, I’m relaying you the coordinate!

: Th-That’s!

*Ginga and Hokuto dash over to the main room.*

: This guy…!
: He’s the bigwig boss!
: He’s… the lord of the Spiral Castle!
: You’re telling us that guy is the main reactor?!
: Then if we take him out…!
: The Spiral Castle will stop in its tracks?!
: Dendoh, Ogre…! If I’ll die, then I’ll be taking this planet with me…!!

: Huh?! The reactor’s readings are…!!

*Alarm!*

: What is it?!
: The Spiral Castle’s gaining speed! At its current pace, it’ll reach the zero barrier in four minutes!
: What--…!
: Did you say?!
: I will not sit idle and simply let myself be destroyed…! I will not, humans…!!
: We-We have to take out something so huge in only four minutes?!
: That’s crazy! Just getting over there was a huge pain!
: Still, the lives of everyone on Earth are over the knife’s edge in these four minutes. We have to keep going.
: But how are we supposed to take on a guy like that?!
: …”Strength comes from the heart.” We just gotta keep that in mind and do it.
: Huh?!
: My mom taught me that. At a time like this, we stay strong and find a way to pull through.
: I think I get it… we can’t let our spirits be broken, right?
: Yeah. If you let that happen, any chance of winning goes up in smoke.
: (That’s right, Ginga… True strength is strength of heart.)
: …Humans, what are you fighting for?
: What…?!
: Even should you manage to defeat me today, I’m quite certain His Majesty the Emperor would quickly send new forces to attack Earth. The Gulfer’s assault will not cease, not until your kind lies defeated and annihilated…
: The more you fight, the more you push on to the moment your hope fades – it is a spiraling staircase you descend, headed towards your inevitable end.
: Yet, you will still fight. Why? What do you do this for?
: Ain’t it obvious, big guy?! It’s ‘cause we got stuff we gotta protect!
: What is this “something you must protect”?
: This guy invaded us without understanding something as basic as that…?!
: He is just a machine – something given life to execute a given task… Human hearts are beyond his comprehension.
: Tell me… What is it that you are protecting?
: I’ll tell… after we’ve kicked your butt!!

That’s why I told you to have your guys ready to go after killing the other Gigas. Four turns is a decent number but the Spiral Castle is rather beefy and between the Virus running interference and you needing to make your way up the corridors, through walls and down to the Castle core, you might not pull through.

Lord of the Spiral Castle
Pilot Skills:
  • Prevail L5
Spiral Castle’s Voice Actor: Tomomichi Nishimura (other known works: Akuma in Street Fighter, Mardukas in Full Metal Panic, THE Exelion XO in Gunbuster and many more)

Big huge strong blob of HP and defense. Good range and accuracy, too, pairing a big modifier with S ranks in Air and Space.
No special tricks, really. You just might get screwed by the timer if all your guys have spent their moves after dealing with the Gigas but if you can get to him in time, he’ll fall quickly under concentrated Valor fire.

So let’s skip a couple of turns while I get everyone in position and take it away.

:siren: :siren:

: Do you understand now what drives us to oppose you, lord of the Spiral Castle?
: Does not compute… why does this man oppose me…?
: Then I’ll educate you! What dwells in and drives my fists… it is friendship, trust and hope for the future!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaQAaCUzFmM

: I don’t expect you to understand what it means to fight for what you wish to protect – for what you love!
: “What you LO-VE?”
: That’s right! My fists serve only to protect the woman I love and now you’ll feel the sting of the power that gives me!

: Surely you understand that even should I fall, that won’t mean anything. This battle will continue.
: And even if that does happen, none of us will give in…! I’ve faith that humans have that strength!

: We may all be mechanical life forms but there is a major difference between us…
: And that is the “HE-ART” you all speak of…?
: Indeed!
: Idiocy… what use does such a thing have in battle?
: The truth still eludes you, Spiral Castle? The will to always remain steadfast and fight on… such is the strength given to us by our hearts! And it is the power born of said hearts that will be your end!

: Spiral Castle, Spiral Lord or whatever you are, taking you out’s gonna put an end to all this mess! Grit your teeth!
: Such a reckless assault… why do humans fight with such little regard for themselves?
: You wanna know? That’s what’s called courage!

: Why… why do humans fight when they know defeat is inevitable…?
: I’ll tell you why, Spiral-Head: it’s because of our pride! And one more thing: there isn’t a single cell in our bodies that thinks we’ll be defeated!

: You ask why we fight? I doubt a machine like you could eever wrap your head around our answer!
: And that answer is…?
: There are people on Earth waiting, rooting for us… and their trust is what gives us the power to keep fighting!

: You are unwise to challenge me, humans. Observe how powerless you truly are!
: This mechanical bigwig here thinks highly of himself, huh?
: Let’s show this guy where our strength comes from, Ryou, Hayato!
: Come on, machine! Open those eyes and see the power that’s born of the bonds people have with each other!

: You want to know why people fight, do you?
: Do you have that answer, prince of Planet Fleed?
: I do – it’s because of love! Though I don’t expect you to understand the hearts of those who fight out of love!

: Here we come, boss man!
: We’re taking you out and hitting the brakes on your Spiral Castle!
: I do not understand… Why won’t you stop fighting even when you know you will be defeated? Your extermination became a foregone conclusion the second the Gulfer arrived at this world—
: That’s only what you think!
: We won’t be beaten… We can’t!
: We’re doing this for everyone that’s helped us fight you…
: And for all the folks back on Earth who believe in our victory!

: Does… not compute… does not compute… what is it… that you must protect? What must… humans…protect?
: That varies with each person but I can tell you mine and Hokuto’s answer.
: What… must you… protect…?
: …A promise.
: Pro…mise…?
: I promised my mom… that I’d come back to her.
: And I promised my mom… that I’d keep Earth safe.
: Hokuto…Ginga…!
: And it’s not just with our moms. We also made an important promise to everyone else on Earth.
: And, so, we fight to protect and fulfill that promise! For everyone’s sake… and for our own, too!
: Protecting… something intangible is… nonsensical… does not compute… does not compute…! Does not… compute…!

: Captain, we’ve confirmation that the target has been destroyed!
: OK! All unit, evacuate the Spiral Castle immediately!
: Quickly, everyone, or we’ll get caught in the explosion!
: Full power to the Distortion Field. The Nadesico will act as a shield for the Nahel Argama and allied troops as we escape this sector.

: Commander, there’s a message from the Magnate Ten! Operation Screw Nail was a success and the Spiral Castle has been destroyed!
: Aah…! They did it!
: Hokuto…Ginga… and all our allies of the Magnate Ten…!
: …
: Sir…!
: Hm. Earth has been saved… at least for the time being…

Goodies earned were our secret Haro, a Martian Donburi and a Psycoframe.

Also, since I didn’t expect Boss to wreck Absolute, here’s the kids’ convo for it:

: You will not pass through me, humans!
: What, you think saying stuff like that’s gonna make us turn around and go home? Get real!
: If that’s how you want it, then we’ll just make our way through you by force!
