I kinda wanna do it but my magic stat is garbo and that'd be a lot of wizard hatting...

Stats seriously aren't very important. I never did a single lever as a magic class before going magic archer in the post game and it was hella fun and overpowered still. Besides, as mentioned, MA uses strength plenty for dagger fighting and the awesome setting yourself on fire move.

MY OPINION IS SEERS OF THE THRONE PROPAGANDA IGNORE MY GNOSIS-IMPAIRED RAMBLINGS
So I unknowingly did the Bitterblack Challenge on my first playthrough of the game. I left only to see the world and explore a bit while the dungeon was resetting. That's it.

I feel like a badass. Though it's kind of trivialized a lot of the content in the main game world. Does it get comparable later on if i've beaten the last big boss for the first time?

Nope. Bitterblack's whole deal is that it's hard as poo poo compared to the main game.

How does one get specific pawns? Some of the ones in the OP look super hilarious, and I want to try to get some of them if possible.

If you add me to your friends list on Steam you might see You in the rift. You will heal you, buff you, but You will not cast offensive spells for you. You is super duper tough to kill. Also, You has a commanding presence and a sultry voice.

The only thing I can think of that's comparable is fighting multiple bosses at once in Rotunda of Dread. Black Abbey is even more difficult, since it's mostly BBI boss monsters. It gets insane after you beat Daimon the first time, with multiple dragonkin+ spawns.

Oh man, this loving game!

I picked it up years ago on PS3 and loved it so much I just got it again on PC! Decided to do something different from my Magick Archer back on console and have made a pair of Dwarf bros who will both be going as Warriors for maximum Pawn teaching. I figure everyone makes a healbot mage, someone needs to make the big two handed hammer wielding psycho.

Can I get an invite to the group? I figure it'll be easier for ya'll to pick up my pawn buddy Andras if I'm in.

I don't think it quite works like that... there is such a variable, but I think it only determines how likely that pawn is to speak up as opposed to other pawns.

I only know this because I dug around way too much trying to make an absolutely perfect pawn.

When you want to end the game. Turning in the wakestones ends the game and restarts you back to the start of the game so if you havent done bitterblack island you might want to do it before that.

I guess I just suffer from minmax choice paralysis then because I am an idiot that just started reading about the game's levelling system, figured I wanted to get good STRENGTH for melee, and figured (wrongly) I should level from 10-100 as an Assassin when I really wanted to play as a Warrior wielding a giant gently caress-off zweihänder.

So in short: the stats don't matter and you should just play as-is, and if you do care about stats, gently caress it, use a trainer?

Also gently caress it if there's still a Steam group for this, I'd like in too, please.

On the bright side, on harder enemies, their yelling can be helpful. Like if I'm in a frantic fight with a bunch of poo poo and Death and I hear my pawn yelling about its scythe being deadly, I know to run like gently caress.

Get your rear end to Bitterblack Island for Dragons Dogman 1.5. A bunch of new and harder enemies to mess around with in order to get even better weapons and armor.

If you want to unlock New Game+, turn them in. Otherwise I would explore post-game Gransys. A lot of monster spawns have been changed and a couple of new ones have been added. You'll pretty much never see another Gryphon ever again though, but getting those assholes to land is already a nightmare anyways. Wyrms and Wyverns now spawn too if you want to dragonforge any new gear. Otherwise it's time to pay a visit to Bitterblack Isle.

Theres a few reasons to go to NG+ to do bitterblack. Some notice board quests in bitterblack are only open when you go there before you go to everfall for the first time for example. Also you need to watch the ending for bitterblacks story to make much sense. The main problem with going to NG+ is that you have to replay the main game again a bit and NG+ isnt all the intresting on the second playthrough. Though i think all you really need to replay is the dumb hydras head escort mission.

Weird twist: There are Bitterblack quests that require you to be in postgame. There is one that requires you not to have been in postgame yet. The latter comes before the former number-wise, though they don't show up in sequence. ???

Yes, limiting your class choices because "numbers" is just greatly reducing your enjoyment for completely negligible benefits. I'm pulling these numbers from memory but the difference between going Assassin only and just switching every once in a while is about 200-300 points in base attack strength for your character. The weapons that you'll find in the endgame give you 1000-2000 points on top of that, and in practice such a tiny difference means killing an Elder Ogre in 20 seconds vs killing it in 23 seconds.

Likewise, everything in the regular game is easy as long as you keep your weapons upgraded. Postgame gets a bit more difficult but the game just straight away gives you a set of weapons that are twice as good as the regular ones as soon as you enter postgame.

It should also be remembered that there are plenty of buffing items like periapts and whatnot and when you're in post-game or venturing in BBI the cost is negligible. Throw some periapts on ya and that tiny difference from min-maxing becoming even more redundant.

In that case yeah, bats can take off 50-70% of your health with one attack at that point. Given that they attack in swarms they can be very dangerous for another few levels.

Even more fun is escorting the cart to Gran Soren and accidentally kicking it, causing you to get one-shot by the cart. :v:

Having started this latest run in Hardmode, I can confirm that bats are deadly as hell at low level. As it stands I'm getting pretty well rocked by the bandits out in the cabin by Gran Soren. I know I can win if I can take out the Archers first, but its still a pain in the rear end since I get routinely oneshot stabbed in the rear end by the guy with the sword and shield.

The fact that normal goblins tend to drop Giant bags of Gold has made the pain somewhat worth it though.

Hard mode is weird in this game. The beginning before you reach Gran Soren is tough as nails but then you get access to Claxton and gold idol inventories and all the extra gold you got puts you over the edge until the game is easier than it'd be on normal.

I always recommend getting a good idea of the archetype you want to play and freely switching between related advanced and hybrid classes so you don't level too far off the mark. Of course my first answer is always "it doesn't matter" but some people insist on tormenting themselves and this method is a good compromise between minmaxing and freedom.

Just spend 25ish levels each as a red/blue/yellow class and then play whatever. Without going into details blue = magic, yellow = stamina, red = hp/strength. Remember that power-enhancing augments stack, (ex: Acuity and Attunement). Otherwise just upgrade your weapons and beat up lesser dragons to dragonforge it. If you can handle cursed drakes, dragonforging is almost a guarantee.
