Hi guys. We did this a bit last year, but I think it would be cool if we post our best of for the year 2016. No real rules, per we, but I've tried to limit my choices to a ten song playlist on Spotify. I would actually say these are my favourite songs as opposed to a BEST of but you get the idea. https://open.spotify.com/user/1152510500/playlist/3GLd8UGUbp755fSghxM9Af Have a listen and let me know what you think. Also, if you have a playlist to share please do. I love hearing new stuff.

I don't like to repeat artists on lists, but there are still plenty of other good singles this year. Here's my fairly loose one: E> Updated one: https://open.spotify.com/user/unstoppabledog/playlist/2p0wz59YTWOzUraOyC2KyW After testing it, copying the link into the program still works like last year, rather than trying to login through the browser. Here's mine. I feel like 2016 was somewhat of a bad year for music, but my perception could be colored because it was a horrible year overall. I'm not the first to say this but it feels like there weren't that many killer albums even though there were lots of great songs. That being said it's probably mostly my fault as I spent a LOT of this year specifically digging through the discographies of David Bowie, Frank Zappa, and Marvin Gaye. https://open.spotify.com/user/djvecchitto/playlist/2q3MKnnE7i5ERWL15ldKy4

I definitely felt the same about 2016. I've been putting off my year end review more, while compared to past years I was amped to do it. I think I didn't discover enough new artists and no album really got me hyped. There are a few I enjoyed, but nothing like past years.

Good thing about 2016: The Operators album turned out to be really, really good. Even better than I expected. Bad thing about 2016: The Moonface album turned out to be a disappointment.

And the Wolf Parade EP was ... pretty forgettable, I guess? I should listen to it again — haven't in months — but the only song that really stood out to me was "Mr. Startup," even if the hook reminded me too much of Gin Blossoms' "Follow You Down"

What Spotify playlists do I need to subscribe to outside of this Year end goon playlists? All the ones I used to be subscribed to stopped updating long ago

Side note, for these goon 2016 playlists, but them in a folder and you can shuffle everybody's music for one big goon playlist

Alright, I had to run through my list again and make a proper one. Too many good songs this year to cap it at 10. So without repeating any artists, here is a better one: https://open.spotify.com/user/unstoppabledog/playlist/2p0wz59YTWOzUraOyC2KyW

What an incoherent bunch of songs this turned out to be. I left out some of the bigger names like M83, James Blake, the 1975 and Empire of the Sun because people have already heard about those. https://open.spotify.com/user/vastakaiun/playlist/4Pb8dWqvHVNz9XRjKFJM0z Super late thank you to the guy who had the Spector song in their playlist a year ago, I ended up loving that album a whole lot.

Haha, hate to be that guy, but I think Spector recommendation was me. All the Sad Young Men was the opening track on my best of 15 that I shared here. I've listened to the playlists posted so far and will go through each with a lil review sometime very soon. Thank to everyone who shared theirs.

Anyone watch (or make) any decent year-end best/worst-of-the-year shows on YouTube? I've pretty much mowed through the early releases, and it'll be a while until the more popular ones release theirs.

I've taken most of the lists and just thrown it into one big play list. Slowly getting through it, but whoever put in tracks by Merchandies, Alex Cameron, and Wy I approve. Really into those three so far.

Not sure how big Hippo Campus is outside of MN where they are from, but you guys should check them out. I would say they sound a bit like Vampire Weekend. Here is a song from their first EP in 2014. They were all under 20 when they made this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV3bIvRGX8w And they just recently announced their first full length album coming out in early 2017. Here is the first single. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29CrbOXYOVM

I have a new self-produced/self-released album that just came out: https://commonminer.bandcamp.com/album/harbor I guess I'd describe it as mathy melodic indie rock with hints of prog and shoegaze. Hope you like it.

It's fine for lyrics to be unintelligible, they're not that important.

For me, the instrumentation and arrangements are really the important thing; it's something I worked really hard on and I'm pretty proud of the result. But yeah, it is my ~*~artistic choice~*~ and I wildly disagree with the notion that not having clear and easily understood lyrics makes something unlistenable (a number of my favorite bands are even harder to understand than me!), but thanks for your opinion, I guess.

Ugh, in hindsight I came across as a total dick, was not my intention. My favourite group is M83 so yeah I'm down with the unintelligible lyrics, in your case I just genuinely thought there was a mixing mistake or a sound channel issue. I'm sorry, I'm an rear end. This thread rules, Merry Christmas all.

No worries. Sorry if I was overly defensive. Anyway, there are several instrumental/ambient tracks on there you might find to your liking, as well as the one "Admiralty" that's just classical guitar and really dry up-front vocals.
