Pretty deplorable opinions about a guy whose biggest crime was putting pen to paper. Cho even admitted it was his mistake because he was never told about the slave outfit ban.

Overreactions like this are the reasons Steve Martin and Cinnabon were bullied into silence while Disney gets to hold the officially unofficial light saber vigil (ps bring money).

I've been a fan of Cho since Liberty Meadows and have met and hung out with him a couple times at comicon. The fact that he responds to criticism with more gorgeous art and a laugh at his detractors just makes me like him more. You guys make it sound like he's a card carrying anti-feminist or some right wing hate monger which he is far from. I put him in the same pantheon as guys like Erik Larsen, Art Adams, and James Stokoe who have a true love for their craft and draw the things they want as opposed to being told what to draw by a hive mind.

If you want to talk deplorable opinions, Mike S. Miller would be a more fitting example, it's just that that guy knows better than to inject his personal politics into his work for hire projects.

Yeah, he pretty much is. You don't want to acknowledge it because you hung out with him in person and it upsets you to know a guy you hung out with is a shitfest. The fact that you retreat into "H-he's just a free spirit who hates the HIVE MIND telling him what to do" is proof enough of that.

When you quit a book and attack the writer because Wonder Woman's panties got cropped out you're not just laughing it off good-naturedly. When almost every statement he gives is pure Alt-Right "i'm fighting censorship (about panties)" bullshit and he gives big ol' smug posts about someone drawing porn for him is defeating censorship then you'll need to do more than go "I hung out with him briefly at a con" to convince anyone he isn't the rear end in a top hat he appears to be.

The writer had it out for Cho even before he drew the first cover. I've also hung out with Mike S. Miller and while he's a nice enough guy, I recognize that he has some pretty vile opinions. Cho is nowhere in that league.

"The writer had it out for Cho" based off of what, precisely? Did Greg Rucka post a big angry thing on Facebook about how much he hates Frank Cho that I missed?

I hate that the internet only aggregates news from the last couple months because there were a couple articles and quotes about Rucka's harassment of artists on that book. The same thing happened with Adam Hughes on WW too (another fantastic artist I have zero problems with because he lets his work speak for itself).

I followed it when it was happening and the only thing I remember was Frank Cho's own comments about it (which are easily discovered by a few moments google.) And I'm not going to say he's inherently lying but at least it's not an unbiased source.

Cho had spent the last year making a living off of mocking female characters. It's pretty a pretty reasonable response to be disappointed that he's been put on your female led comic, no matter how talented he is.

Anyway, sorry for the derailment. Just wanted to post an example showing that Disney won't allow you to promote that outfit. Back to posting good/bad art.

Guys like him love to act like they're taking a stand against SJWs and the politically-correct hordes of Tumblr who want 'safe spaces' and unique personal pronouns when in reality he's just throwing a temper tantrum because his own 'safe space' no longer encompasses the entire comics industry.

Thrilling the forums since 2001

Frank Cho is one of those "separate the person from the art" people at best. He has exceptional skill and has a really good grasp on anatomy and different body sizes. As a person, he's an rear end in a top hat. Some people can separate the two, others can't, sometimes it comes down to the person as to how much you can stomach.

Dave Sim is another one like that. Glamourpuss was underrated as poo poo but it was a master class of skills from lettering to cross hatching to fashion magazines in general and Cerebus needs no introduction. However, his positions, especially with regards to women, are vile and really shouldn't be defended by anyone.

ruddiger
Jun 3, 2004

I would never defend Dave Sim's bigoted opinions, but I love his work and is another artist whose books I buy. I'd never wish harm or cancer on the guy because I'm not a scumbag of a human being and can separate people's bodies of works from their personal opinions. Same with a guy like Frank Miller. Despite his decaying paranoid mind, I still love his early work, and can only watch with awe and wonder as he deconstructs his own work in an almost Picasso-esque breakdown of shapes and shadows.

But what do I know, I'm just an idiot who doesn't get the subtle non-aggro humor of "I hope he gets choked with a chain" or comparing a person to cancer.

Opinions shape art (of all kinds), that's just fact. Sometimes they can be overlooked more easily than others. Or sometimes they're like Chuck Dixon who just published a graphic novel political smear book or Bill Willingham who's repeatedly snuck ultra extreme positions into his works.

The end result is that if you purchase comics of a certain author/artist, you're rewarding that opinion, even more so when it's an independent book. Not to get SJW here but with President Pussygrab coming, I'm not sure I can support someone who just thinks objectification of women, even if it's just fake characters, is something that's ok. It's a deeper problem than just comics but by supporting it you're implicitly agreeing with it.

On the same token, vilifying these guys with hearsay bullshit is just as bad. Hughes left Wonder Woman after Rucka came on board. That's a fact. To not see a link between Hughes departure and what happened with Cho is just playing obtuse. The only thing I don't like about the whole situation is how sites like Bleeding Cool and the Mary Sue conflate the argument to drive up page views. There's a lot of lovely opinions being espoused on blogs by a lot of talentless hacks that are being passed as fact, and drawing lines instead of encouraging discourse is only harming this already dying industry.

Yeah, gently caress that guy who fought for creator owned rights and pioneered one of the largest, longest lasting independent comic studios around, and who currently has an almost unparalleled run on his own creator owned book.

Some of you guys are some real weirdos.

He has some great stories about the comic biz considering he's been around so drat long and has worked with some legit legends. I've been following his work since his Spider-man run and watching his art style evolve over the past couple decades(!!!) has been a real treat.
