Also maybe the Brits, although I hear the t5 grind is a bit draining, but it might be improved by having a solid CV player backing you up. This is working well with German Cruisers, my CV player is 9 and isn't the greatest but trying to train him up and his younger brother in co-op battles so they know what to do and how to do it. Thanks for the post!

Hipper is great, dunking on tier 8/9 battleships with AP for 6k damage a salvo never gets old, the HE is also useful, the shells have good travel time, it has hydro, good AA, and wasd hax well. I like it better than my anime atago

Man the FDG is a disappointment coming from the Bismark. It just feels so squishy. Everytime I try to brawl poo poo goes south and I lose 90% of my hitpoints without doing anything then spend the rest of the match sniping at like 5k health. Granted it's a sample size of like 10 games, but I'm still averaging 50k less damage per game with the FGD than the bismark.

Bought a Graf Spee, then opened a supercrate and got enough gold that, along with the gold from the Graf Spee bundle, I could afford a Tirpitz

I'm still trying to fathom how so many players can make it to tier eight and never figure out that you don't win if you let the enemy team cap all the points.

FDG doesn't seem to have any additional armor over the Bismarck and is a bigger target that turns a lot slower. The bigger guns don't seem like a noticeable upgrade. That said I haven't unlocked the 420s yet

With both Tirpitz and Graf Spee, plus the ARP ships, I think I have all the premium ships I could really want anytime soon. Though I am going to grind the free ones for the Graf Spee missions cause why not.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQHTyNxp-4g Notser talks about the 0.6.0: HEAP wrecks DDs immensely, Fire Prevention massively helps them against fire, and he opted not to use radio detection even though he said it feels OP so he could stack more lower level poo poo. Oh and he makes a good point: two spotter planes could massively increase the ability to detect torpedoes. Blindeye fucked around with this message at 16:48 on Dec 31, 2016 |

Blindeye posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQHTyNxp-4g There is one slight issue in that analysis, and it involves HEAP. HEAP does literally nothing for battleship main battery HE shells against destroyers in 99.99% of cases, except make it mildly less effective (due to lower fire chance). HE shells already have a penetration value, which is 1/6 of their caliber (or 1/4 for German battleships because reasons). That means a 410 mm gun on Nagato or up for the IJN tree already penetrates 68 mm of armor - and if you go look at the destroyer armor values, only two destroyers even breach 20 mm of armor on any of their facings: Gearing with 21 mm of armor, and the imaginary Khabarovsk with its loving completely unfeasible 50 mm of armor. So unless you expect your battleship to be shooting at heavily angled Khabarovsk belt armor a lot, it does absolutely nothing against destroyers. It DOES let German battleships citadel many cruisers with HE, but that's a different matter. Note that HEAP doesn't do much for secondaries against destroyers either, as most HE secondaries at the relevant tiers are 127mm+, which again means they already have 21 mm of armor penetration, and a +25% increase is not terribly relevant for them. Most of the other points are good, and yes, Catapult Direction is just one more in the slew of destroyer nerfs in this new skill tree. I'm going to have to check, but I don't think that will make too much of a difference. wdarkk fucked around with this message at 17:54 on Dec 31, 2016 |

I figure it's a combination of horizontal spread being way more of an issue than it should be and the armor angling mechanics being a bit too generous. Maybe they should add penalties for things like your bow getting blown to scrap causing your ship to handle like a barge while flooding itself or the bridge eating a high explosive shell that murders the entire command crew. Maybe adding some stuff like that would allow cruisers and even DD's to do something useful to heavier ships without letting them burn down the HP (figuratively or literally). 3 games. 3 losses. Top XP in every game. Had a pub flat out tell me he didn't care about trying to win/cap. He just liked to sail around and shoot things Edit: Also every single game has had 2 CVs. If there was a way I could play Wargaming more money to have a non-CV mode I absolutely would. If your CV player is bad they can straight up lose you a game and there is literally nothing you can do about it

One thing I'm not clear on--are the gift ships from Christmas Convoys coming with port slots, too? Tier 6 is a good tier, so I'll probably keep most of them even if they don't, but if they DO, that's icing on the cake.

Wargaming should really put the Scharnhorst in the German tech tree. Not so it's easier to buy, but so that you can actually look at the armor layout of the thing without having to buy it. It's easy to see why the ship has a near-53% winrate. I was playing with Astroniomix and pushedback when I saw a New Mexico shotgun an angled one at point-blank range and do zero damage... because he shot the angled turtleback side of the thing. Hell, even I don't know where to shoot an angled one, save for the superstructure or maybe the rear end/front at a good angle? If it's really like a Gneisenau, you just aim for the strip of 45mm between the superstructure and the citadel if it has one. But I'm lucky that the ones I get to shoot are always broadside-on so I usually always do good damage. But the average player has no way of knowing where to shoot them, because you can't see the armor layout, because the drat ship isn't in the shop so you can't preview it. Seriously, this isn't some sort of cyka superweapon that you can't get anymore, if not for sheer dumb luck and Flamu tears like the Nikolai. This is just a normal premium any dude can get their hands on. It's like a Tirpitz, but the Tirpitz is actually on the tech tree but the Scharnhorst isn't. What gives?
