Then he left for Chicago and was immediately back to his old efficiency, though much diminished on D. By the end of 13-14 a lot of people thought he was cooked.

Is wingspan really the whole story because the two most recent super-wingspany surprises, Kawhi and Giannis, also couldn't shoot when drafted. Unless having a higher release point to clear your defender is enough to make you a pro shooter.

Vince, Dirk and Pierce were all top 10 picks though. And there certainly are plenty of years where a top pick does dwarf the rest of the draft.

Should we give Jason Kidd credit for developing Giannis and Jabari? Those two as a duo seem super unlikely. A 6'11+ point guard dishing and swishing while playing defense in all five positions paired with a 6'10 SF that plays a tough driving offense and hits 3's at a decent clip. Once Middleton comes back that spacing is going to be even more nuts.

When I was 17, my father was so stupid, I didn't want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.

On the one hand it seems crazy for the Hawks to trade a player as important to them as Millsap, on the other hand if he walks anyway for nothing next year they're hosed for like five years.

Firstly, his numbers were down because he played hurt for months, and if you check his post mid December numbers they improve significantly. But beyond that, his efficiency was down in 13-14 because he was getting double teamed constantly and had to take on at least a part of the responsibility to take bad shots at the end of the clock. However he was very good at moving the ball out of this situation and is one of the prime reasons the Lakers offense functioned that year.

Well, he did run the same offense as Byron Scott the previous two seasons so him being the new "bad at coaching basketball games but good at helping young players learn to play" guy is probably appropriate.

I dunno, Jabari was pretty NBA ready out the gate and it seems like if he wasn't producing right away it was him trying to get used to not having the same explosiveness/recovering the explosiveness he had in college.

I have no caveats for Giannis though.

Just because top players slip in the draft some years doesn't mean they slip every year. Part of the advantage of having a top pick is controlling your destiny, you can take the guy you want instead of relying on a series of dumb teams like Sacramento passing on your guy. If you have the advantage of hindsight, then yeah load up on a quantity of picks. Otherwise, look at that expected value curve and tell Danny Ainge to gently caress off with his 4 for 1 offers

GSW is threatening to be #1 in both DRtg and ORtg simultaneously. I believe only the 1971 Bucks and 1996 Bulls have done that. 2017 GSW is going to displace 2016 GSW as the GTOAT. :anime:

Here's the 3P all-star dream team.

code:
West East
Eric Gordon	SG Kyle Lowry	PG
Stephen Curry	PG Kemba Walker	PG
Joe Ingles	SF Trevor Ariza	SF
Ryan Anderson	PF Kevin Love	PF
Otto Porter	SF Channing Frye	C
We'll never see it.

The rare 50+ point triple double is growing:

code:
Player Date	PTS/REB/AST
Elgin Baylor 12/13/61	52/25/10
Richie Guerin 2/25/62 50/11/13
Elgin Baylor 12/15/62 50/15/11
Wilt Chamberlain 2/13/63 51/29/11
Wilt Chamberlain 3/18/68 53/32/14
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 1/19/75 50/15/11
Russell Westbrook 10/28/16 51/13/10
James Harden 12/31/16	53/16/17
Harden had a 48.7 GmSc so that's possibly the strongest one if Wilt misssed a ton of FTs in his games.

I haven't anything like that. It does say he's going to opt out of next year for sure which is what spurred the Hawks to do it, and says they were really burned by Horford leaving. However, he's also 31 and might just want to get on what might be his last long, big contract. Basically there are a lot of non-Dwight reasons this might happen

But the part of me that watched 82*3 games of Dwight says yeah he just wants out.
