Thanks for the thoughtful responses, everyone.

I agree that splitting tips pages into "Basic" and "Advanced" might be a step too far, especially when services like GameFAQs exist.

For that reason, I'm happy if tips get removed and the wiki errs on the side of "Not enough information" as opposed to "Too much information".

Note that if you point out problems with a specific page on the wiki, I will go and make edits to it. So feel free!

EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP AND OPEN PALM SLAM A WHITE WHALE INTO THE PEQUOD. IT'S HELL'S HEART AND RIGHT THEN AND THERE I STRIKE AT THEE ALONGSIDE WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER, ISHMAEL.
I just put several hours into Let It Die and as a non-Souls person who was a bit intimidated at first, I figured I'd throw out some beginner advice:

  • If you think you even might play the game at some point, I'd suggest loading it up and create your account, etc. There are events that take place over time and they reward everyone with an account made before certain dates. As it's a F2P game you want to have as much free premium currency coming your way as possible.
  • On a similar note, if you have PS+ there is a one-time free pack you can purchase/download which gives you some decent items but also more free premium currency. More than enough to help you get started. If you want, there is a further one-time IAP currency package you can buy for roughly $5 which provides a lot of bang for your buck.
  • That said, so far there's no real need to worry about the necessity of IAP. The game plays fine without investing a cent.
  • As a last tip for those "just setting up an account" for later, while there is a multiplayer raid system ("Tokyo Death Metro") which you can run afoul of (and to which two of the three currencies can be stolen from you), you have to get through the first three levels and the first miniboss before it unlocks. Even then, it's technically optional to opt-in when it does.
  • The three currencies from most precious to least are Death Metals (rainbow skulls), SPLithium (blue and white flame) and Kill Coins (gold coins). You can periodically get DMs through daily login bonuses, etc. but generally they are the purchased IAP. They can be used to continue without penalty when you die, or used to expand your storage box in your Waiting Room (home base between runs). I would tend to recommend using them for the latter at first. SPL is generally found from beating particularly difficult special enemies, or by different forms of raiding, and it's mostly used in large quantities to upgrade your Waiting Room (after TDM unlocks) or else small quantities to research Blueprints that let you purchase your own weapons/armor. Kill Coins are what you get as drops and also from selling gear, used to buy Decals (equipment perks), your Blueprinted gear or else to use the elevator to get to and from the Waiting Room and different floors quickly.
  • Your overall account remembers weapon masteries and controls overall currency and storage items. Your avatars (Fighters) can be destroyed and lose Decals and carried equipment, but you can always make some progress.
  • Weapons you find early on are very low durability and tend to break at the worst moments. Start by using your fists (in a basic LRL or RLR combo) instead. Weapons "level up" when they actually kill enemies and every level has its own perk. Eventually (Level 5 Mastery) you will get a special heavy attack move for the fists which makes the game much easier at the beginning. Wait until you get blueprints to focus on any other weapons.
  • Your best healing items at the beginning are (cooked) frogs. Always keep a firework gun (fairly commonly found) on hand as locking onto and shooting frogs cooks them immediately in the field.
  • Magnum revolvers are really handy for those "particularly difficult special enemies", especially those apparently much higher level than you. Rare, but worth keeping one on hand as well.
  • Blueprints only start showing up on the second floor or higher. Get them back to your Waiting Room at all costs, as well as the raw materials needed to make them work for you.
  • Elevators only have stops at floors that are on the same vertical line as the floors appear in the overall floorplan. Bear that in mind when trying to get back safe with your loot.
  • Eventually you will want to unlock and activate the TDM to progress (as it allows you to increase your Fighter count, KC/SPL bank size, and levels/types your Fighters can be). Take your time getting there and maxing out the levels on two or three Fighters first. Once you activate TDM, keep your non-DM currency counts low, tied up in stored items or else rewards in the reward box until you actually need them so they can't be raided.

I'm going to give the game a rest for a while but it's pretty fun for what it is.

Note that the game changes massively after floor 9 by spawning 1 shot powerful mobs after x amount of time spent on each floor so before investing too much get to that part and see if you still like the game after. I did not, because the game changes into rush rush rush mode.

The Jackals don't spawn until you kill all enemies on a floor. They're only an issue on the dead end secret shops and treasure rooms, which are total deathtraps if you don't rush. Normal floors you can just leave somebody alive in a corner.

I would advise against this because it's a very good way to burn yourself out of the game without experiencing its coolest parts. Do some poo poo around White Orchard here and there, and then continue to the next part; you can always come back later. White Orchard isn't that big. But I would suggest just getting all the places of power there. From what I remember, most of the loot in White Orchard is pretty useless.

Something important to note here for Let It Die: Paying Uncle Death to bring them home lets you keep everything in their inventory, including the money they found. It'll pretty much always be worth it to bring them back if they die before floor 7 or 8, unless you were sending them in naked and dying without amassing many coins.

Just gotta keep walking down that road.
Here's what I have to share for Hitman: Codename 47. That is to say the very first one, not the 2016 game simply called "Hitman" that's on the wiki already.

* Your first order of business should be changing the keybinds as the defaults are questionable at best.

* There's no save game option so each individual mission needs to be finished in one go. You do get some extra lives, but dying and respawning will not undo the fact that you got discovered so recovery can be difficult or even impossible.

* While there is a generic "interact" button, right-clicking brings up a contextual menu which is sometimes necessary for things such as dragging a corpse rather than taking its clothes or choosing the floor on an elevator.

* Some disguises allow you to openly carry specific weapons without anyone paying attention. Be careful though, for example a Colombian soldier can carry an AK-47 but an M60 will get you spotted immediately.

* Make sure you're sneaking before going for a stealth kill in melee as otherwise your target is likely to immediately turn around and spot you.

* Switching disguises out of sight will cause enemies to lose track of you should your cover get blown, even if your new disguise is identical to the previous one.

* Always bring body armor to a mission when possible, just in case. Outside of civilians and policemen, there are no penalties for killing anyone and there are times where loudly gunning down people in a firefight is the only option.

* Due to a very useful bug, you can drag corpses at running speed. Simply grab the corpse and start strafing before pressing the run button.

* Shift-Escape immediately restarts the current mission.

I got overwatch on my ps4 last night because I was drunk. It's okay, I've been interested in it, and enjoyed online shooter in the past + like the idea of the different classes/abilities even if it may be unbalanced. The gameplay seems simple enough, but the game feels awfully....cluttered? I guess. Will I pick up on how everything works intuitively? A lot of stuff just seems weird. Like, I tried playing the game against AI's it suggests you do, and it looked like it still put me in a match with players, and not the skirmish either. I might be mistaken though.

Also tips in general, etc.

I thought about posting in the Blizz subforum, there's a couple of threads for it but I didn't see a newbie/small questions type thread so I figured I'd post right here for now.

Right, yeah. "Play with AI" is a human team vs AI. If you want to gently caress around, set up a custom game and add AIs as you wish. They're..okay, but not really a good example of actual players, but it will help you get a grasp on how to play characters and the maps.

The best starting advice for Overwatch (assuming its not your first FPS ever), is "play the objective, it's not TDM". Kills obviously help you push the objective if they're in the area, but 50 kills off the objective is worth a lot less than 5 kills near the objective. And don't be afraid to die, though obviously you want to avoid it if you can. But there are plenty of points where the only way to break the defense is for someone to get shot in the face. Sometimes, that someone will be you, and your team will do better pushing as a unit than trickling in like a bunch of babies.

Yeah, a couple matches I got were us escorting a vehicle thing. I tried to stick pretty close, but still in a spot I wasn't wide open. So far I'm sticking mostly with Soldier 76. I feel like I've got a good feel of when to use his rockets, ultimates, and his healing ability seems to be pretty useful for everyone, especially when we are defending a fixed point. I'll drop it in a corner or anywhere generally out of line of sight, but nearby. I haven't done a ton of research on other heroes yet. Mei seems neat, basically a frost mage from WoW. Also I really like what I see of Ana, but I think I read it takes a bit of skill to play her well. For some reason I was always attracted to healing/support in WoW despite what a headache it could be, perhaps it'll be that way in this game.

Yeah, my only game I play regularly is Rocket League, it seems to have a similar way rankings work, what with unranked still having a hidden one that matches you up against similar people. Honestly the only online FPS I ever played a lot of was Halo on original Xbox. But between that, WoW PVP, and this past year, just a lot of Rocket League, I completely understand the concept of teamwork and strategy over just showing off, so hopefully I'll take well to the game.

Essentially if you remember you are playing an objective you will rarely be the worst player on a team. Ana can be a bit tricky because she is the only sniper with no movement abilities (Widowmaker has a grapple, Hanzo can scrabble up walls) so a bit of map knowledge is a plus (knowing where the stairs are to get to an elevated position), but as shes support as long as you are healing any team mate you can see and sniping any enemies you are doing okay. Costs nothing to try them out, even a complete rookie healer is better on a team than no support at all.

One thing I dont think anyone has mentioned is that the game is designed with counter-picking in mind. If your team is locked down by turrets for example then the idea is that someone changes characters to a sniper to take out the turret, or whatever. You dont see people doing it as often as they probably should (including myself, I hate wasting a half charged ultimate, so I usually only do it after I use one). So if you are playing a character and keep getting murdered dont feel like you need to stick as that character, feel free to change to someone else.

Soldier 76 is a good newbie character, yeah. If you've ever played an FPS in the last 5 years, you probably know how to play soldier 76.

Lucio is another good newbie character. He heals via auras that are constantly emitting around him, so as long as you make sure to have the healing aura switched on, stay near teammates, and don't die, you're being a good player. If you can manage to squeeze in some shots at the enemy too (without dying) then you're now a great player.

IDK I played 3, 3U and 4U so by Generations I was so happy to skip the annoying Jaggi portion of the intro and get into the meat of hunting. I had no trouble with Maccao.

But there's tons of optional 1* quests if you need to kinda practice, just knock all those out and then come back. They give you choice in Generations. If you don't wanna jump ahead; don't.

Steins;Gate is for all intents and purposes linear, with optional side route/endings that pop up at certain points with very obvious binary "Proceed with main plot"/"Proceed with side story" choices. So it's very easy to just play through however you want, eventually you'll reach the end and encounter any of the other endings you feel like experiencing. The true/final ending however does require some specific responses to various text messages throughout the game that you'll probably want to look up after the fact on a second playthrough (you can fastforward through previously read dialogue).

That's an end-game GE2 character, not GER. GE2's blood arts are busted to the point they feel like cheating. In GER you need to look up the monster you're fighting in the computer and see what its elemental weaknesses are and bring the right ones. You never need to touch the bullet editor because basic sniper or sniper bomb shots are the most cost effective pierce/crush damage in the game. Always bring the other New-type NPCs with you when you can and shoot the buff bullets at them — they'll buff you back. Once you unlock Predator styles make sure you're attaching buffs to them and keeping them active during the fight.

There are two sections that cannot be replayed, so if you don't get all the collectibles there on the first go you won't be able to 100% your first playthrough. It's kind of apparent which sequences these are, especially if you're looking out for them. I think combat upgrades are the least important. I wouldn't prioritize them unless you feel like the combat is tedious or something. Best abilities to go for would be Ultra Spirit Magnet and Triple Jump.
