So I finally got around to trying to watch Civil War and, after three shots, keep finding myself just glassing over and tuning out. I enjoy the Marvel movies and even liked Avengers 2 but, for the life of me, I can't engage with this one. It's nothing but action sequences. I never really feel the stakes or get any sense of tension. Maybe I miss Hulk but I know why they left him and Thor out. I dunno. Maybe I just haven't been in the right mood.

There's the fight with Crossbones and his gang at the start, there's the car chase sequence with Cap, Falcon, Bucky and T'Challa, there's Bucky escaping after Zemo mind controls him, there's the airport fight, and there's the fight at the end in Siberia. So there's five.

Sounds like a Defenders movie, if you think of Thor as a close enough substitute for Valkyrie. Too drat bad they can't throw Silver Surfer in there. I'd love it if Hulk ends up in the movie because they adapt a reversal of the Surfer/Beta Ray Bill plot from Planet Hulk and have him show up kidnapped and mind controlled for Thor to fight in a space gladiator match.

I caught Spider-Man 2 on television today and the train sequence still holds up to me. That's a fun movie. The big where he loses his powers is incredibly hokey, but I still liked watching it. McGuire gets more flack than I think he deserves. The Osborne stuff sucks though.

We see him ignore the cops flying by, and the dude getting mugged, but then he saves the kid from the burning building (but he hears about someone else who died that he probably could have saved had he been Spider-Man). It's part of what makes him realize he can't not be Spider-Man anymore and sets up the scene in the cafe where he rejects MJ again, and then Dr. Octopus kidnaps her and he gets his mojo back.

Alfred Molina is great in that movie. It's one of the relatively few superhero movies that does a good job with its villain (compared to most of the MCU in any event).

Yeah aside from the MCU the vast majority of superhero movie villains are way better than the heroes. Excusing the Reeves Superman movies, because he's probably the best part of those, you've got Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer in the Batman movies, Dafoe and Molina in the Spider-Man movies, Heath Ledger in Dark Knight... Overall it's really rare for these movies to have forgettable performances for the villains. Even the lovely ones have like Arnold and Uma Thurman going full ham.
