very abrupt ending there

the production is terrible and i hate grado but most of the in-ring was good and i'm glad this is kind of a campy thing and not another workrate indie i hope it gets picked up

Given how much they pushed on the big daddy and giant haystacks legacy, it shouldn't be a surprise they went with charismatic fat man against hairy fat man at the end.

Mediocre first half, good second half. Hopefully if they get picked up for a full season they sort out the production because it is awful so far. Joe Coffey, Mastiff, and Samuels were the standouts for me.

The show needs to find it's feet. Feels very WWE-light right now and is losing bits of what makes British wrestling unique but it has the basics of a fun show.

Davey Boy Jr coming out late and getting pushed as a world beater, forgetting the rules of a Battle Royal and then getting eliminated was amazing.

I could see it being fairly cheap if they tape it a la Lucha Underground. And Alex Shane has the deal for wrestling at Butlin's now, I think, so he'd likely use the WoS guys on those shows. I'm just not sure what numbers on the main metrics ITV would be looking for. Like, are they looking for it to do more than whatever aired in the timeslot last Saturday? Or are they looking for X Factor/Bake Off numbers? Would a good AI number (audience appreciation index, for non-Brits, it's a metric of how much viewers like a show) make up for low viewing figures?

Stuck it on in the pub last night and most seemed to be enjoying it, didn't stick the commentary on so can't really comment on that but I was pleasantly surprised overall

Just wished they hadn't gone with Grado v Mastiff as an opener, a lot would have just turned off after that

It wouldn't have done much to dispel the image of British wrestling just being fat sweaty guys

They can't hope to equal last weeks, this was new year's Eve. Everyone's out getting pissed. City Liverpool was on the same time roughly. Maybe retaining numbers from the start would be good for them, show people who found it want to watch it.

That's pretty good imo considering it was New Year's Eve and it was running against Liverpool/Man City. Doing around half of Raw's viewership in a country 5 times smaller? Not too shabby.

Last year the show in that spot got double, apparently, and wrestling lost an enormous chunk of audience when it started, which came back when it was over. On the plus side it didn't look like it lost any of the people that had decided to watch it.

They might have been better to flip the order and had Ninja Warrior on first. I could see someone watching that maybe sticking around for wrestling.

Some quick checking says that that number would be about what the Beowulf show that they had was pulling in. So I suppose it boils down to whether or not they have something that they think is a bigger draw or is significantly cheaper to produce/buy rights for. Or if they think it could fit in on ITV4 maybe.

Probably dead in the water if that number's legit, though, unless it saw major time-shifting via catch-up and recording.

I enjoyed WoS. They need a better editor.

Grado isn't the guy, drop him like a hot rock. I don't like Sha Samuels either, but I never have so that is a whole other issue.

If this show were to get picked up, I'd book it around making Kenny Williams the new WoS guy (he is young, athletic, can work enough to grab indie fans, but isn't breakneck boring spotfest poo poo, and has a look which can grab kids (but I'd renovate the gear a bit)), and Gibson his rival. I'd leave Mastiff as the monster heel who holds the belt. I think the biggest thing they need to think about is establishing who their main guy is, and I think that due to his age, they can easily mould Kenny into that.

I hope it gets picked up, but I don't expect it to. ITV could be airing property porn in that timeslot, and lord knows British TV doesn't have enough of that already!

Some of you may remember me being less than thrilled that the indy that runs my town was booking Teddy Hart as a headliner. Well, 2 things: One, they also booked Shigehiro Irie, who I like, and then this happened today

quote:

Teddy Hart NO LONGER Appearing On CWE's New Heights Tour.

It is with great disappointment we have learned today that due to legal circumstances in Texas beyond our control Teddy Hart will be UNABLE to appear as scheduled in Calgary, Winnipeg, and Thunder Bay.

Although we anticipate this situation will reveal itself in the public eye soon enough it isn't our place to discuss Mr. Hart's legal situation right now and the consequences of it. However it is our place to be honest with our fans who are very loyal and supportive of the brand.

Upon the announcement of Teddy Hart on the tour there was some hesitation and doubt from our loyal fans based on his track record. That track record was the very same reason CWE hadn't attempted to do business in almost six years and the first and only time he was advertised for CWE and didn't make the event.

However, those close to Teddy and affiliated with CWE had reached out on multiple occasions stating he has made many positive changes in his life and simply wanted an opportunity to prove that as he had hoped to be a brand ambassador for Canadian wrestling and hopefully tour regularly with the company.

With him proving to be focused and reliable as of late with huge main event performances in Mexico and California and even his recent appearance on Talk is Jericho where he very sincerely said he was looking to make changes and for opportunity it was thought the stars had aligned for Teddy Hart to be an impact player for the organization.

We sincerely wish Teddy Hart the best of luck in his current situation and hope he finds the help he needs to truly get his life on track and be the success story we all know he is capable of being.

As a result there are some obvious changes to the cards he was involved on. Here are the changes made,

Calgary

ACH vs. Jason "The Gift" Kincaid

- This was a huge first time encounter that was supposed to take place in Winnipeg that wasn't meant to be. As a result it will go down in Calgary, Alberta in what promises to be a once in a lifetime contest that will be talked about for a long time to come as two of the most innovative wrestlers on the planet compete for the first time.

Shigehiro Irie vs. Dylan Knight

- These two monster heavyweights will collide in what will also be a first time encounter featuring two of the strongest and heaviest of hitting men you will see in a CWE ring. Both big men have a point to prove in what will be their first matches for the company!

Winnipeg

Jason "The Gift" Kincaid vs. "Tornado" Tony Kozina

- These independent wrestling sensations wrestled in Calgary for the first time ever on the Destined For Greatness Tour and arguably stole the show with a near 20 minute clinic. Kincaid is the hottest star on the independents right now a place Tony Kozina has been many times over his 20 year career. Winnipeg is a town that appreciates a true wrestling classic and that is exactly what they will get on January 20th.

Thunder Bay

"Hotshot" Danny Duggan vs. "The Crown Jewel" Chase Owens

- There is one match that is leading the Match Of The Year polls by a land side and that is Danny Duggan vs. Chase Owens from the last event in Thunder Bay. These two men took pro wrestling to another level in T-Bay in a 30 minute classic. Now the fans of Thunder Bay will get to see the rematch in place of Teddy Hart in what promises to be even better than the first given how the last match ended in such controversial fashion.

*For anyone looking for a refund due to Teddy Hart not appearing they can do so at their original point of purchase. For those that don't need one prepare yourself for the most stacked series of tour shows CWE has every produced with more stars from around the World then ever before. CWE flourishes under these circumstances and will make sure you leave forgetting such a thing was ever supposed to happen in the first place!

They've run a really tight, bullshit-free ship since they started doing national tours, probably why talent like Kincaid and ACH are willing to do business with them. Plus Danny Duggan is the promoter/head booker, he's probably not eager to burn bridges.

Shigehiro Irie is an upgrade to Teddy Hart in every way possible. He works hard as hell in the ring every time out, and is the sweetest guy outside of it. He's so genuinely happy to meet new people and make new fans.

For our show, Irie was booked before Teddy pulled out. That said, I agree about how hard he works. Dude's a pleasure to watch and I will probably buy a shirt from the lumpy sumbitch.
