I see the PHR stuff and I just reflexively hear an echoey army of Beavis' "heh-heh"ing with fleet orders being an array of catchphrases until something goes weapons free and screams "I am Cornholio!"

The corvette doesn't dispel this vision.

Need to add some more details do it but its'g etting there nicely I think. :) lol at my lightbox solution of an A4 piece of paper. Can't be arsed setting mine up. Theres a bit more contrast on the guns than the picture shows but I'm happy so far.

Djinns and snipe a few with a Hydra Bombers? Them things have silly range. Admittedly neither UCM Frigate has to worry about picking course change to shake a few but they'll die fast.

I bought 2 UCM starters and a battleship yesterday. I'm going to build one starter set fleet (Madrid, Berlin, Seattle, 2x Toulon, 2x New Orleans), then I was considering doing a San Francisco, New Cairo and Rio, 2x Jakarta, 2x Taipei and a New York.

Is there anything else I should consider? I could maybe swap the Rio for a St Petersburg, or double up on cruisers...

Arcturas
Mar 30, 2011

Don't build just a solo light cruiser. They have to be taken in pairs, so unless you'll be proxying a New Cairo as a Berlin you'll want two New Cairos or none.

Flipswitch

Get a San Fran definitely, a second Seattle is a good shout! skip the Light Cruiser unless you're going to run them paired. New Cairos & a Lima are a really decent combo.

Anyone have thoughts on this allocation for 10 Shaltari Cruisers:
3 Emerald Motherships
2 Obsidian Heavy Cruisers
1 Jet Heavy Cruiser
2 Granite Fleet Carriers
2 Amber Cruisers

In addition, I have 16 frigates and one battleship.

Hey, anyone Scourge or Shaltari Dropfleet players here want to trade? I have my kickstarter stuff in with a bunch of sprues I will never use.

I have
4 Scourge Cruiser sprues
3 Scourge Frigate sprues

1 Shaltari Cruiser spure
2 Shaltari Frigate sprues

I would love to do a 1 to 1 trade for UCM sprues, PM me or post here if interested.

So am I missing something or does DF appear to be a relatively closed ecosystem? There are models for all the ships (well, 90%), all the factions are documented, as are all the ships for each faction? The reason I ask is that I was thinking of how to expand my Scourge beyond the starter set and it appears the only option is a) more frigates and cruisers, b) frigates, c) cruisers or d) a single battleship. Am I missing something?

They're releasing Corvettes soon, then non-KS-exclusive battlecruisers. Then dreadnoughts or something.

Southern Heel

This is going to sound like a silly question - but what will they add to the game, if anything? It feels like DropZone is more expandable in that way.

Kore_Fero

The setting seems open-ended enough to add additional factions or sub-factions. There could also be experimental or unique ships for each side or version2 variants for line ships that they can introduce via the Reconquest campaign storyline. I don't think you'll see the kind of variation of units that you get in a ground warfare game mostly because the game is built off of common hulls with different weapon loadouts.

And turn the inner eye
To see its path...
In the book theres a whole bunch of special rules that don't appear on any ship yet, so that would be an obvious avenue for future releases.

In general i think we have basic ships of the line covered for now and we're going to see more specialised and support ships in the next book.

What i'm wondering is if we're going to see upgrades for the plastic kits, whole new resin hulls (like the battlecruisers) or a mix of both.

Specialist resin hulls would be my guess. There was some talk of destroyers being a thing at one point so that could be a future expansion.

If they can't make them as complete new sprues, they'd be better off turning out destroyers that are frigate sprues plus larger resin replacement stuff, same as battlecruisers from cruiser sprues.

I don't think that is going to happen. The retail battlecruisers are meant to be all new sculpts rather than upgrade components so I would expect any more ships to be all new stuff from here on out.

Honestly, sight unseen I prefer the way they've already done the battlecruisers to new all-resin sculpts. Guess I'll wait and see.

The resin scourge ships are nice enough. The UCM? Yeah, I loving broke every antenna on the bottom of the ships already.

Hopefully the corvettes are single piece models on a plastic sprue!

There's been a reported trickle of people still getting pledges, but otherwise nothing official from Hawk since before Christmas. I've not even received so much as a canned response since e-mailing early December and a second two weeks later.

Same. Not sure whether there's any point sending them another request for an update on status since in their Dec update they were pretty blunt about "we'll deal with your order when we get to it chronologically"

So my buddy has the DFC rulebook, am I correct in assuming that there are only three levels (high, low, atmosphere)? And that in terms of ship information you need level, spike and dmg indicated? I ask because I'm looking at using a magnetised antenna for the stand to represent height and a base with three dice recesses to represent spike and dmg.

Renfield
Feb 29, 2008
They'll have to be very small dice - the base sizes are 35 and 50mm !

The bases that come with the models actually have a dial insert for showing spike and altitude, and a peg-system for damage already - although the damage indicator is too fiddly and a dice is easier for that.
They also have facing and arc indicators (tabs to indicate quadrant, and a raised section for the narrow front arc):

You don't really need to do your own bases, unless you're planning on trying the game with just bases and no models.

Though keep in mind you don't actually need a base. Or a model. Everything is measured based on a point (aka the flight stand). Though facing is important.
But yeah, 3 heights and 4 spike levels (silent, normal, low, high).

Southern Heel
Jul 2, 2004

Yeah, I'm just used to using dice for KoW and so little pegs, etc. seem a bit redundant, and we have lots of tokens from WM/Malifaux/etc. we can use to represent silent/low/high spikes.

Am I correct in assuming each force has 5x infantry, armor, fighters and bombers? I'm thinking of using different painted cardamons for ships, cloves for armor (as little self-propelled guns) and rice for infantry :)

Nope, everyone has as many infantry, fighters, bombers, and armor as they can deploy or need. I doubt you'll go over 10 of each in a game, with the possible exception of infantry since you can drop 6 at once from a troopship.

The worst part of DFC are the fiddly little plastic pins for counting damage on the base. Not worth bothering with those things.

The pins are great at identifying squads, so I would hold on to them at least.
I have groups of pins that I colored the tops of in case I want to run my troopships in different groups.

Depending on the points the assets (for fighters and bombers at least) are capped.... I wanna say 5/10/15 depending on the points? Of course this makes Scourge ships pretty good, as I believe they have the highest capability outside the shaltari super-carrier.

But what about the stickers that don't really line up with the openings in the cover? There's so much to dislike about the bases, I can't pick just one thing! Obviously I'm being a bit harsh, but they are a really cool concept that is just annoyingly fiddly in reality.

If you push the sticker around a bit it'll align properly. I learned that pretty early on.

Also my pledge gets here Friday so I don't have to buy a second manual to play games in January. :toot:

I suspect a few of you are start by to consider foam options for your spaceships. I've been keeping an eye on Feldherr's site since they're advertising dropfleet foam coming soon. I haven't seen any other company talking about offering custom cut for DFC.

It's euro, so shipping to the states will cost a pretty penny when it drops, but maybe some people want to pool orders to divide shipping costs.
