Is there a food that's good to spam at camp in order to get Ignis to level 10 cooking? A guide says mystery meat sushi, but I wasn't sure if mixing up the recipes and trying new ones helped.

I honestly have no idea what influences how fast his Cooking levels up, since I just reached max naturally.

On another topic, I'm testing different strategies on Angelus-0 and somehow, some way, I just had a limit break spell hit him for 99,999 when every other time in the same battle with the same conditions I was only hitting for around 35,000. I've clipped the fight so I can upload it to Youtube and review it later, but in the meantime I'm going to keep trying to replicate that.

It's funny you say this. I don't necessarily disagree really, but FF13's is actually pretty confusing. I like the game myself and yet still have trouble putting together what happened in it.

It's confusing in the sense that they just make up too much terminology and expect you to understand it in the way that the main characters do. The main point of the story is that the gods of that world are trying to destroy themselves to break themselves free of the "slavery" of their existence. The only way they can do that is by imprinting humans to harm them because they cannot do it themselves. Replace Fal'cie with Gods and l'Cie with Servants and you have a pretty understandable narrative.

Ventana posted:

I'd assume you'd put Xenoblade Chronicles/X in that category as well?

Xenoblade Chronicles was a rare game that used enough western influence in the quest design and combat system to match perfectly with the JRPG narrative. Xenoblade Chronicles X was more of a spiritual successor to the Xenogears/Xenosaga games, but suffered from poor pacing and leveling balance. It also got released on a platform that was very unfriendly to HD gaming experiences.

There was a very brief filler patch out on release that spliced some bits from Kingsglaive into early story beats. The more comprehensive story patch that SE's been teasing probably won't be out for the better part of a year, at least.

Has anyone figured out a way to get up on those huge natural stone arches or do they all have invisible walls around the base in addition to the in-game fences?

I didn't figure out a consistent way to have limit break magic hit Angelus-0 for the max 99,999 damage, but I did manage to have it happen quite a few times earlier. I'm also pretty sure it's possibly to consistently beat the 45,000 damage that at which a Quintcast -aga would top out. Here's a playlist I made with five Angelus-0 kills with 99,999 damage achieved, including a clip with a sub 2 minutes kill.

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSX83mAZE66urb-_l-ojocwxbOrjW6gzT

Note: This isn't really more efficient or quicker than the popular strategy of putting the difficulty on Easy, dying for the Ruby Light buff, then going nuts, but this is doable on Normal difficulty and is a lot more satisfying in my opinion. Also, my loadout is in the description of each video although it's nothing really mindblowing.

Do you have mother and child rice bowl, and are you breaking its wings/face when you fight it? Because if you are, you should be approaching a 50% chance to drop. Hell even without the mother and child rice bowl its a 25% flat chance to drop so if you've done it 20 times something is either severely hosed with your game or you need to never play the lottery or games of chance.

Edit: Huh I guess the Griffons all have different drop rates with the hunt being 15%, the one in the wild being 25%, and the one in chapter 15 being 100%

I don't know if it was specifically that dish but yeah I had item drop food on and was breaking it's wings and beak every time. Got plenty of damned Griffon breasts if I wasn't reloading every time.

Still 25 times on a 15% drop is p crazy.

it went on a little long, but otherwise it was okay. I was glad it was over, but that's mostly just because of how tense it was to be stuck in what is basically a daemon hold without your buddies and weapons. gently caress that thing with the wings that you can't actually kill, though. or at least that would take forever to kill, if you can. I was like 71 or 72 when I was going through the end of the game, and tried killing it since it didn’t seem that hard and I could do reasonable damage to it.

Every time it warps out to drop on you, it fully heals. I couldn’t damage it quickly enough, but maybe someone could in NG+? I suspect it just can’t die, though, since it turns out to be the Emperor later on.

I have come to think that the parts don't show up immediately, but at certain times.

For one of the hunts I let the unicorn thing attack me and take damage, I let the wait mode pop up, and its horn wasn't targetable. More damage more damage, wait mode again, and then it was available to target.

May just be me, but I don't think it is immediately available to target.

You fight the daemon later on, after the gang is back together. I think right before or right after fighting Ravus? After you kill it, someone (Ardyn??) offhandedly mentions that it used to be the emperor. You need to be at an appropriate angle, but otherwise I don't think this is the case. I started the fight with the 2x duplicorns + 3x spiracorns by just spamming warp strike on their faces until the horn broke.

I got the sturdy helixhorn to drop on my first try at the hunt. I had mother and child and used warp strikes on the horn with sword of the wise for the hidden drop rate buff though.

On top of the other advice: some weapons are better at breaking parts than others. The hardedge (a greatsword) specifically says it's more likely to break appendages, and the armiger sword will do 2 hits on a warp strike instead of the usual one.

To add onto this, here's what the guide has to say about breaking parts (summarized):
  • Each body part has a separate hidden durability meter which is a percentage of the monster's max HP. Reduce it to 0 to inflict "Break Status." Body parts don't have individual HP meters so only target areas that are easy to hit or need to be broken.
  • A part isn't auto-broken once durability hits 0, you have to use a specific move to break it. Breaking it will cause a universally positive (for you, not the monster) effect, i.e. decreased stats/damage and/or special drops (monster/part specific)
  • Break Capable Attacks:
All weapons Combo finales; Finishers; warp-strikes; parries
Greatswords Initial hits (x1.1 bonus); Stabs (x1.1 bonus); Charged attacks; Aerial attacks; Combo Finales (x1.3 bonus)
Polearms Aerial Attack (x1.1 bonus); Aerial dive attack (x1.5 bonus)
    Machinery Charged Attack
  • Certain weapons and attacks have bonuses to breaks
  • Break Power Bonuses:
Hardedge, Rapier Lance, Handgun, Quicksilver get a x1.8 bonus to breaking while Cerberus gets a x10 bonus
Circular Saw has a x1.5 bonus and the Drillbreaker gets a x1.3 bonus

They give an example that I'll just quote to explain how this actually functions in game:

quote:

Consider the lowly Sabertusk, an enemy with a single targetable area (the body). Its durability is equal to 60% of its Max HP of 1,200. This means that with most attacks, the enemy will break once 720 points of damage/breakage have been dealth (assuming that you deal a break-capable blow). If you instead perform a suitable attack that deals only 400 damage, but carries a x1.8 breakage modifier (for example by wielding a Hardedge), you would still break the enemy because you have depleted the enemy's durability (400 x 1.8 = 720).

There's also a couple Royal Arms that have modifiers to breaking. The main ones to know are that the Sword of the Tall has a 0.5x modifier on everything but its warp strike and the Mace of the Fierce is really good at breaking if it actually manages to hit things.

Speaking of Royal Arms, I really like several of them and I really wish some of the others were more fleshed out or balanced differently. I would really like to see more weapons that change things around or have unique characteristics/combat techniques in the DLC, but I don't know if there are any plans for something like that.

He's not exactly trouble, in the sense that nothing in this game is really much trouble besides the no items dungeon, but he has extreme damage resistance on most of his targetable areas except the cockpit portion and the rocket launcher and arm disc thing when they're in active use. Most people farm this thing for the 5% drop of the V2 suit quickly by dropping the difficulty to easy, dying for the Carbuncle Ruby Light buff, then going to town on it. I didn't want to do that, though, so this is my answer.
