Kin and Gin are sisters! Eita is Marumi's dad. Eita moved to Maruyama a year or two back for the breeding program. Until this last year, Coco was the mom panda at Maruyama Zoo and Seita was the dad panda. Their kids include Kin and Gin (twins) and a year or two later, Hokuto. She's had other babies but I think they moved to other zoos. Coco is 10 and is either too old to have more children or just not suited for it anymore (she was annoyed by little Hokuto being so energetic and they were separated fairly soon). So in 2016, back in January or February, Gin was paired up with Eita for breeding for a week or two. They weren't sure if Gin was pregnant (until she gave birth in June, I guess). Gin was living in an enclosure with her sister Kin before that (and for a while afterwards). Kin moved to Kushiro zoo in April or May for the breeding program because there's a healthy young male who's alone there.

Well, red pandas are related to weasels and ferrets, so they still have some predatory instincts. They will opportunistically hunt small birds and rodents. It seems that both giant pandas and the lesser panda are predatory omnivores that settled into eating bamboo not because they were suited to it, but because the abundance of the food and lack of competition doesn't select for a specialized digestive system like ruminants or other herbivores.

Actually their dumb fluffy selves stubled upon the most imporant evolutionary trait: Be cute enough for humas to care about preserving them. "Aww" cause apples to happen. Pouncing causes "Aww" to happen.
