presumably chances for small bonuses/losses, not enough to gently caress over or win your campaign on their own?

soldier in the proving grounds could result in them hurting themselves and going to medbay or getting a random grenade/ammo/etc (same material cost still, just doesn't take up your proving grounds queue time)
soldier cult would probably redistribute some soldiers' stats in the same direction and put them all in the same anarchy's children outfits
i don't know about the shadow chamber that was an example i came up with for the post

As a console player what I'd love in a similar vein is more voices, I'm not even talking about the humorous ones like Bob Ross (though those seem good too), just give me a few more major languages like Chinese, Russian, and maybe a few slightly generic English and French speaking African accents, I wouldn't even mind if they trimmed down some of the other voice groups like the Americans to make space. Really I'd love mod support in general, but just voices would be nice.

I wouldn't mind this actually. It would be cool if soldiers had personalities as well, or some kind of nonsense like that.

LW2 is going to be very good, I think, mostly because the modding tools are sick and also because the LW2 guys have like 200+ hours on the tools, which is p. cool.

I enjoyed their mods for 2 so far and I think the entire game needs some refinement and tuning, so I'm interested to see their take on XCom2.

e: I'm in favor of a smaller Xcom size for 2, only because of the guerrilla warfare aspect. Something like the notoriety mod + some other meta systems for character building would be pretty cool, and I think Xcom excels as this kind of ambient narrative.

Yeah, XCOM 2 was among the top-12 most profitable games on Steam last year. They could throw some extra money for 20-50 additional voice actors.

Stop Wasting My Time ain't great for a first playthrough as it cuts out a lot of the incidental dialogue and tutorializing from Bradford/Shen/Tygan.

I stand by what I've said - I advocate a first-time playthrough to be completely mod-less. The game runs perfectly fine and playable and enjoyable without mods. Plus, playing Vanilla at least once lets you fully appreciate the mods you grab.

Honestly I shouldn't have said the commissar perk in of itself, it's more like I have a strong dislike for the Long War studios team's focus on doing dumb things at times when far more useful stuff could have used their attention.

A better example would've been the fact that they made what could have been a pretty useful mod options utility...and then tied it to a mod that was hard to work with when it came to being compatible with other mods, and never really had a solution until a competitor (Mod Config Menu) already established a monopoly.

And even then that solution for LW Mod Options was made by someone completely unaffiliated with the team.

Like I think someone on here posted something close to my feelings about their mods, they can come up with pretty great ideas and then do completely dumb things with them.

You can safely skip Anarchy's Children if you don't like the look, it's a pure cosmetics DLC.

Alien Hunters is basically a hardcore challenge mod with some neato rewards for killing the aliens it adds, that said they may be too hardcore for a first timer like yourself, in which case I would suggest grabbing Delayed Ruler Entrances" so you face them when your squad tends to be a power level that can deal with them more easily (though it'll still be a bit of a challenge.)

Shen's Last Gift adds in giant robot buddies for you to kill aliens with. They may not be that great (though they're ok enough in my opinion for a vanilla-esque game) on their own, but I mean, giant robot buddies. Plus there's several mods to make them better once you start getting to the point of adding difficulty increasers

I'm currently working on it, finally got my life in order that I'm gonna be putting 7hrs a week minimum on modding.

I've set up a geoscape with fixed cities and roads, resistance havens, which you can just go to and start some poo poo any time you like. The objective is to discern the location of key strategic locations through intelligence (blacksites, forges, ATT bases, Avatar Facilites) while trying to not die (gather supplies, recruit, etc).

Hopefully the end result is far more control over strategy, and the missions being a logical endpoint of that strategy, rather than just dates & challenges on a calendar.

This sounds really cool. I've always felt like you should have more control over the strategy of the campaign. Like, why do these guerilla ops and convoy ambushes and VIP extractions happen seemingly at random with no warning? I should be planning them ahead of time. Anyway, best of luck!

Alien Hunters are great as is. They're a fun challenge unlike anything else in the game and really force unorthodox tactics and get you to mix up your strategy.

I own the Alien Hunters DLC (it was part of the bundle I got for Christmas). If I don't want those assholes showing up, I enable the story mode for it, then just don't do a certain mission, right? If not, do I need to uninstall the DLC and start a new game?

Correct, simply enabling the story mission and then not completing it will prevent the Alien Rulers from showing up. However, if you download the DLC, then load an in-progress campaign from before you downloaded, it will ask if you wish to enable the new content: BEWARE, THIS WILL ACTIVATE THE RULERS THEMSELVES, NOT THE STORY MISSION.

They take an action any time one of your soldiers do during your turn. They also have persistent health and flee if you damage them enough.

This is pretty radically different from the rest of the game but the Ruler DLC gives you a lot of tools to even the playing field too.

They really aren't unfair. They have little/no burst damage, are insanely sceptible to burning/poison damage since it ticks on every one of their turns. Flashbangs make them run around uselessly most of the time etc

People really just hate that they're different i think.

Anything that costs an action point, that is- abilities like Lightning Hands, the Alien Hunters axe throw, or the grappling hook all don't provoke Ruler Reactions. Conserving such abilities for the Ruler becomes vital.
