knowing the temperature and humidity of your humidor is a good thing, though not so much that you need anything more than a cheap $10 digital temp/humidity gauge with a digital display that you can check once in awhile (as long as it's closed, neither will differ too much with even passive humidifiers). that it doesn't do the latter makes it kinda pointless for that application

i would rather like someone to kickstarter an automatic humidifier suitable for a small (i.e. 25-100 cigars) humidor though, i think there is a lot of room to make them better and cheaper compared to where they are at at the moment

I think some of them report over cell data but I don't know for sure this is a problem the grown ups have fixed years ago

I've seen ads on social media about 3 different distinctly rebranded fidget cubes now and its the funniest goddamn thing. I just want a post mortem documenting the precise time between them rejecting the first batch their china manufacturer showed them, and the manufacturer dumping them on aliexpress. moron izzard fucked around with this message at 07:03 on Jan 8, 2017 |

fishmech posted:wheres the intellectual property in "throw a bunch of poo poo together that literally does nothing" new doesn't necessarily mean better. actually it is easier to get a patent the worse your idea/product is. not only will nobody have done it before but odds are that there is a lot of literature out there warning against doing anything even remotely like it, and that's a really good indicator that something is not-obvious. fortunately that isn't the case here because there is an entire field of products devoted to small objects which are covered in buttons and wheels that don't do anything except make noises and certain tactile sensations in an attempt to entertain the user: baby toys.

# ? Jan 8, 2017 19:01 |

i doubt they filed for any patents at all, and in this case it's just an example of foreign manufacturers undercutting westerners. but nearly every product these days that's any good gets a quarter-price 100% shamelessly ripped off chinese copy within weeks of its appearance. earlier this year there was the case where that selfie stick iphone case was copied and on sale before the kickstarter for it had even closed. like politicians trading stock based on their insider political knowledge, there's frequently nothing explicitly illegal about it -- it's just infuriating because it's unfair
