My absolute favorite thing about the endgame shift was that I spent 40 hours in the open world fishing, chocoboing, getting camp quests, learning new cooking recipes as I traveled the world.

Every time you rested post-open world and all the skills came up with no level ups it felt exactly what it feels like when you remember summer breaks while you're working 48 hour weeks as an adult. Especially when Noct is alone and every rest is accompanied by FISHING just popping up and going away, like guess what Noctis you're an adult now haha gently caress your hobby

On top of that finally getting the party back and resting and seeing them all talking together again made me pretty happy

I might be reading too much into it

I liked the part where the chocobos hang out with you if you have them rented during camping.

Resting against a chocobo by a fire? drat good time, if you ask me.

Just finished the game last night and I loved it. The final campfire scene was devastating, Noctis' voice actor did such a good job in this game. Honestly they all did.

So what do we know about what's coming down the pipeline? I know we're getting Episodes for Gladio, Ignis and Prompto and then a fourth Episode and I know there's supposed to be some sort of carnival thing coming later this month though I don't know when or what that's actually going to entail.

Do we know any details yet of any of the post Launch DLCs or updates?

I have what is potentially a really stupid question. I just got the accessory that makes Noctis change weapons after every bit, and I'm wondering why I would want to do that especially when he is switching to weapons the enemy is strong against. I've played the whole game just using whatever weapon is marked as effective for the given enemy. Have I missed some mechanic where you're supposed to be swapping weapons for every hit? I sure don't remember that from the tutorial.

I honestly don't think there is any point to the accessory or to swapping weapons repeatedly in general. There are cool specific things you can do with swapping weapons, though, like doing the first hit of a combo with a fast weapon, switching to a greatsword while Noctis steps back from releasing the button, then triggering the greatsword Tempest finisher.

Well the biggest thing would be the multiplayer DLC, which is apparently the 4th one

They are also planning to add guests as permanent characters. So that's neat

It used to be how the combat system worked prior to changing it so that accessory serves no real purpose other than to make combat fewl slightly more like the first playable demo.

All the promo material of Final Fantasy XV made it look pretty lame, but I'm at chapter 3 so far and I've been pleasantly surprised. It's pretty all right. Probably the best single player FF since IX. Having low expectations for this game was actually a good thing.

However, it wouldn't be a Final Fantasy game without an annoying character. I kinda wonder why we're friends with Prompto and allow him to be in our group. Well, at least the other guys in the party find him annoying, too. I just kinda want to push him out of the car onto the smoldering hot pavement.

Replace Gladio with Aranea, Ignis with Cor and Prompto with Iris, game is suddenly better.

FFXV has a whole shitload in common with MGSV so it depends on how it might wear out its welcome. It gets way more linear and plot-focused at the second half which is also where it becomes blatant the game was rushed out the door and stapled together. It at least ends strong though.

Also, I have a lot of trouble actually grappling on to points above me. Maybe I need to do the tutorial again or something, but Noctis always seems to warp into enemies or into the total opposite direction. I try to lock on, but then it just locks on to the nearest bad guy. What am I doing wrong?

Prompto is easily the most polarizing bro.

I mean yeah he's super clumsy and noisy but everything else about him is what makes him so endearing to me. He has to put in the double effort to keep up and he trips and falls on his rear end a lot but he keeps going and putting in the effort. I can admire that characterization.

Hold the warp button instead of tapping. That icon isn't clear, and also applies in other places (like summons) that might seem broken if you don't realise.

Don't hold lock on if you want to warp to a point. if you want to warp to a point just point the camera at it and hold the warp button. If you want to warp strike an enemy, then you would lock on.

Sweet, thanks! I'll try that when I get back home.

I've definitely been having some trouble with the battle system, although that's mostly because I'm a dumbass. Sometimes it gets a little chaotic and it's hard to tell what's going on, especially if there's foliage in the way of the camera.

I kinda wish the UI was a little bigger too, because sometimes I have trouble seeing all the damage counters and the health bars and whatnot. Then I'm like "oh poo poo, so and so just died, I didn't even notice!"

Is there some way to engage wait mode? I turned it on, but it seems to happen like... randomly. I guess I could always just bring up the item menu when I need to get me bearings.

It engages when you stop doing stuff, if you keep moving or attacking it won't wait.

The combat will click in time! There'll always be some foibles, though.

Speaking of Gladio being super unlikable, one fun bonus with the Aranea "Party of Five" Glitch is that she participates in all camp scenes instead of Gladio. Gladio will either not be present at all, or will be partially stuck in the ground in the tent with just his shoulders and head visible. This doesn't hold true for caravans and hotels, though.

Aranea also upstages Gladio in the tech department, despite only having one of them, because Highwind is ridiculous. The move can force basically any enemy except for maybe Adamantoise into the Vulnerable state, even Angelus-0. Sure, you have to wait for three bars of tech to charge, but that doesn't take much time at all with the Tech Turbocharger, especially since it starts building up as soon as Angelus starts to emerge from the dropship, well before it is targetable.

If they don't do a straight XV-2 I hope they actually iterate on XV's gameplay for the next entry rather than come up with some whole new thing. There's a lot of stuff I like in this game even if the execution often leaves something to be desired and I'd like to see them improve on it now that they've got the bigger development hurdles behind them.

I feel the same way. They could make something truly amazing with a little more polish, some buffing or redesign on the more boring weapon types (guns, some royal arms), and perhaps more variety in weapon bonuses or special effects.

Macdeo Lurjtux posted:

Unfortunately no. They actually go by the real soundtracks, so only games with multiple albums are ones that got them IRL. So in other words, it's the MMOs because they get updated expansion packs and thus new songs\albums, and FFIX where for some reason they released the main OST with all the midi music, then a 2nd album with cutscene and unreleased music.

What also kinda sucks is any of the multiple CD games usually only have 1-2 tracks per CD. For example, FFXIV is split into Before Meteor (when the game sucked) which has precisely 1 song on it, and A Realm Reborn which has the rest.

Playing FFXV almost makes me want to sub to XIV again because it reminds me a lot of it, but maybe I'll finish this game first. I never did beat Heavensward.
