BTW I was checking an old Frothy vid and the Cold War, pre-release, had 20 shots in the mag. Do not get why they got rid of that. Huh.Ineffiable posted:Yeah and that's the thing, this game cab make you feel like a punching bag so much more than other games. Highly skilled players will literally run and phase shift in circles around a lower skilled guy. It can feel unfair. They try to compensate by having low TTKs but unfortunately the mobility side of the game kind of undercuts this. In a slower game with low TTKs if you flank someone they almost always die, but in Titanfall 2 it's entirely possible for your opponent to defend themselves by pinballing around like a madman so that they are harder to hit. Thus, if you are not a good shot as well as a fast mover then you're in real trouble. That's why I've gotten kind of cranky that the catch all piece of advice for people is "go faster", because it's definitely an extremely important part of the game (and a lot of fun) but map knowledge, meta knowledge, and good marksmanship goes a long way, too. Ultimately it takes 40 hours of practice to move 90% as well as Frothy but 4000 hours to shoot 90% as well has he does.

blackguy32 posted:For titans too. Not much of a score guy but it fucks with you being able to level up your titans. Play Last Titan Standing Kelp Me! posted:IMO this game does parkour way better than Mirror's Edge which is literally Parkour: The Game. Yeah we get double jumps but drat does movement in this game feel so much more satisfying than in either of the ME games. I've spent enough time platting both games to compare and I really feel like I need to stick up for Mirror's Edge here; I couldn't disagree more. TF2 is definitely streamlined and responsive, and it's easy to pull off over-the-top maneuvers which is good because you're usually doing 3 things at any given time, but the actual parkour feels super floaty and not tactile at all, even landing from an ejection has very little weight to it. During wall runs it barely ever feels like you're connected to the surface or that you're using skill or momentum to stay up there (in fact it's basically a 3-second sticky timer, and you can move backwards or forwards until it wears off). And don't get me wrong, I love TF2, it plays awesome for what it is...the best first-person shooter in years. TF2 is not a compelling parkour game on its own though, there's just not enough depth. The intricacy of the controls in Mirror's Edge is absolutely phenomenal, the way in which every move in the game can be chained into every other move to maintain momentum, and just the general weight of every action feels like you're actually moving and interacting IN the environment rather than on top of it. In comparison MEC really rewards user knowledge of the interconnected moveset, while the upper tier of play in TF2 is less about mastering environmental parkour than it is mastering bunny-hopping and juxtaposition of weapons and cooldowns. In Mirror's Edge when you pull off a really complex string of parkour moves it feels absolutely earned (like in a sim or a Darksouls game), and that's just not the case in Titanfall since there are so many other gameplay concepts being juggled at any given time. I don't have an issue with phase shift. What I do have an issue with and will never shut up about it is melee!!!

melee is really easy, just get in your titan and no enemy pilot will out-melee you again

I never get super frustrated about melee because whenever guns fail and it all comes down to melee, either one of us dies too quickly for me to register any problems with the situation or I'm too busy laughing at how awkwardly me and the other guy are dancing around each other. When that happens it's a total yakety sax moment and I appreciate that.

I feel like there's a sensitivity to how far you have to click the stick in to kick because I keep kicking whenever I get near an enemy and all I want to do is adjust my aim.

For how long it takes to unlock it the Flatline feels a bit disappointing. Maybe I'm just not getting the recoil pattern as it's mostly horizontal.

The horizontal recoil is primarily for hipfiring. Same with how the Alternator works.

It bucks wildly on the horizontal but it's COMPLETELY horizontal - no vertical movement at all. You can feather the trigger for a G2-like effect or you can fire it full-auto on your opponent's head level and it will kill them in two headshots. However it recoils so incredibly badly and becomes such a variable gun that past short range you are better off just tap-firing it IMO. It's better than people think but you do have to babysit it and if you do fire full-auto you can get some real bullshit kills (either pro or con)

Megaman's Jockstrap posted:Get above your targets. The more mobile and airborne your opponent is, the less advantage these guns give you (NPCs being the ultimate ground-bound slowpokes means they really take it on the chin) and they become quite difficult to use against fast, wall-running/airborne opponents. This is basically my load out right now. I use MGL at the moment though. Shooting titans with your cold war doesn't do a ton of damage, but it does fill up your titan meter pretty darn quick. Thanks to PS4 crew for fun games tonight. The last $5000 to $148 in Bounty Hunt might be the most lopsided score I've seen in Titanfall. Did this without Grand Cannon. https://giant.gfycat.com/AngryThickEquine.mp4 I was also able to get points for another titan kill via rodeo after this, but there's a hard 15s limit for gfycat and I don't want to upload to YouTube. https://giant.gfycat.com/PassionateSmoggyChimpanzee.mp4

I'm sad that I couldn't get video because my PS4 decided it wasn't interested in recording more than a 2 second one but last night I was in the zone on a good few matches. Bounty hunt on Boom Town I spent the match running around clearing up the other team like a man possessed, ricocheting off walls like a ninja on a Red Bull enema. Another match on Homestead I got my Tone early (I usually main Scorch these days but he's not great on this map) and spent the next 10 minutes just destroying the other team's pilots, toying with them to the point where they seemed to single me out while my team was cleaning house on the objectives. I spent a while just strafing one guy's attempts to hit me with the Archer and then popped him with the 40mm. He eventually got a Titan and came at me, he wasn't the best Ronin player So I shot him to pieces, he ejected and then tried to land on me from above so I hit melee and my Tone hit him with a right cross and he exploded satisfyingly. When you're on fire in the game it's just wonderful and I'm finding out where Scorch is effective, basically forcing the other team to avoid certain areas on maps like Dry Dock by getting in there first.
