I am looking for recommendations for French language music since I'm studying French in my spare time. I listened to Thievery Corporation's Saudade and I really enjoy the style of these songs in particular (I think Bossa is the genre this would be in?): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtlVpt64wFQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbB9LqapIzU Does anyone have more stuff like this? Not even necessarily in French, but it's preferred.

Sorry to break up the funk chat, but do any of you have recommendations for hard rock stuff in the vein of Rhino Bucket's Shot Down? Mostly in terms of riffs, etc. rather than theme/lyrics, since I love that first bit, around the :30 mark or so - Shot Down's my favourite RB song, (although judging from Google it doesn't even get a look-in in their 'best song' list for the band!) simply because none of their others are quite the same as that. So yeah, if people can suggest bands/songs in the same vein, I'd greatly appreciate it. (And yeah, I'm -naturally- already aware of AC/DC! ) Bonus points if it's got a little glam rock/hair metal in there too, like Kix - although mostly leaning towards regular hard rock at present. Thanks! EDIT: Oh, just listening to some more music I've got and somehow forgot about Slaughter's Burning Bridges. I might be asking for a bit much, but that's also a song with an opening I love and want more of! Major Isoor fucked around with this message at 10:33 on Jan 9, 2017 |

Dunno what kind of tempo you're after, but they have both mid-tempo and brisker paced songs. Oh poo poo, I'd forgotten about Airbourne! (Speaking of which, god dammit their 'Australian tour' is only the east coast! They're an Australian band, they can't get away with skipping Adelaide! ) Yeah they're pretty good - although most of their stuff is a bit rougher and faster than what I have in mind right now, as you mentioned. (Although either way, have you given their new album a squiz? Any good? I haven't heard anything about it)

I think the best sources for glam/pop-metal are going to be Heavy Harmonies and GloryDaze Music. I guess the closest thing to "European AC/DC" would probably be Accept with Matthias Jabs on lead guitar? One more obscure band I might recommend is a British group called Airrace, who released one album (Shaft of Light) in 1984 and were one of several attempts in that decade to put Jason Bonham in a band. One of many that's had a Rock Candy Records remaster.

One thing to do is to go onto the BBC Radio 6 Music site and find the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show. I've discovered more than one act that way. Check out Donny Hathaway's live album from (I think) 1972. Some Daptone Records artists I enjoy include the Sugarman 3 and the Budos Band. James Taylor Quartet is always good. Rufus Thomas is a favourite of mine; his early 1970s dance records are good fun ("Do the Funky Chicken" etc.). Wheat Loaf fucked around with this message at 22:31 on Jan 9, 2017 |

There's a compilation series called Superfunk which is extremely good, here's an amazon link for the first edition: https://www.amazon.com/Super-Funk-Various-Artists/dp/B000042O16 another random compilation that i listen to a lot: https://www.amazon.com/Quantic-Presents-Worlds-Rarest-Funk/dp/B003TV9GKC Also can check out Brainfreeze Breaks and Sick Experiment by DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist. They're turntable routines but Brainfreeze is also avaialable as a compilation of the source tracks. Sick Experiment might be too. It's hard to name bands because the music industry was a lot more focused on singles back in the day rather than full albums. Not a lot of prolific artists. If you want current stuff Funkdoobiest and Breakstra are solid. I would not describe them as the very best though. a little taste from the compilations I linked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMkrdY-yN_s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chsqfQksdo0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJeIsGFLSNE

I have been loving the high production value sound of k-pop lately. I specifically like really cool harmonies, tight drum loops, and playful basslines. I like this sound: BLACKPINK - Playing With Fire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pdj4iJD08s Girls Generation - Check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXobIxGKHgQ 9MUSES - Dolls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW6D8rYppwY I can find this in lots of places through Korea because it's really highly advertised when you look for it, but I'm interested to know about other scenes with a similar style. That "Check" song for example was produced by Teddy Riley. Great poo poo in my opinion.

Not a request, but I recommend folks looking for lots of music for relatively cheap to check out bundle sites. For the life of me I can't remember the site that a friend pointed me towards that resulted in me getting about 50 albums of various ambient, electronic, retro, chiptune, 80's-inspired, synth, and rock music for a pittance(maybe 20 bucks if that for all of it) that has resulted in dozens if not hundreds of hours of music I've felt are "keepers". Even now I'm still chipping away at the backlog of them and finding new great stuff, like this track from an "80's themed" album that is so very 80's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiMIENyIyzg If I find the site I got it off I'll link it here, it was basically Humble Bundle-styled "12 albums for the 4 dollar tier, 8 more for 3 dollars more" bundles. Obviously been around for a while, but I feel like some folks don't even think to check sites like that for music. Hell, if you buy stuff off Humble Bundle(games-wise), they often come bundled with soundtracks included. Over the years I had amassed nearly 250 game soundtracks just by buying various humble bundles, and there's a ton of good stuff in real obscure indie titles. One in particular that blew me away was Corporate Lifestyle Simulator, which has this soundtrack that is full of some amazing stuff. There's a lot of filthy, grungy synth, atmospheric/ambience, rock, and other varieties in this one album. Some of it reminds me a lot of the Hotline Miami soundtrack. https://bignic.bandcamp.com/album/zombies in particular: https://bignic.bandcamp.com/track/monkies https://bignic.bandcamp.com/track/ultimately-boss-intro https://bignic.bandcamp.com/track/modern https://bignic.bandcamp.com/track/scent-2
