"marketing" doesn't mean just ads, in this case any work that is primarily there to bring in more backer money but will not end up in the game is marketing. All the time spent redoing ships five times to add fidelity, and making sandworms and gamescom demos that are mysteriously unavailable in the PU would count as "marketing", they're there to bring in more backers but aren't actually moving the game forwards in any meaningful way. A TON of work goes into these scripted demos that go nowhere.

On a more serious note, I wonder how this move will effect their loyal streamers. Like how is relay and WTFsaurus gonna react, knowing that CIG will basically be taking their show. "If I wanted to see playthroughs or gameplay I'd rather watch someone from the community that I find enjoyable. Like someone mentioned, if they played internal builds or anything not yet available to us that would be different. "
