Serious question here, and I swear I'm not trying to be a dick. Do you video game soundtrack guys, like, actually put those records on and listen to them? I can understand collecting them for the artwork, packaging, etc. but I can't imagine ever wanting to sit down and listen to NES music.

Only video game soundtrack I have is for Hotline Miami, which I do listen to on the turntable same as I do any other album. It's weird though, because some of the songs lend themselves to the analogue sound well, and some don't, not sure if it's because of the mastering or just the way the song was produced. I almost bought a compilation album of Dubmood's keygen music, but that would've mainly been for the 5.25" floppy sleeve.

Aside from Pac-Man Fever, this is the only video game album I have:

And they somehow used a screenshot of the wrong game.

WE LOVE SHOOTING GAMES!

Fun Shoe
I only have a handful of game soundtracks (Mother 1 & 2, Hotline Miami 1 & 2, and Undertale). Hotline Miamis were just because I love the music. Mother 1 & 2 were because I've loved the games since I was a kid & Mother-related merchandise is rare stateside. Also 1's soundtrack isn't bleepy bloops (bar one track), but instrumental & vocalized versions of the game's songs. Undertale is all bleeps and I just bought it because I really like the game, and it's just a gimmicky thing to own.

I'm not going to begrudge people for what they buy, though I do think it's silly to buy an album and not actually listen to it. I feel the same way about people that buy toys without opening them. Open that poo poo and put it to use!

I'm still holding out for a press of We Love Katamari. It's probably the only video game soundtrack that's way better after being divorced from the gameplay. It's also great for samples, so I've heard.

On another note, I've got a turntable question for the thread:
I'm going from 0 to 80 and I'm switching from an LP60 to something a good bit more substantial because of some deep discounts I'm temporarily afforded. So, what's the better buy between these?

Marantz TT-15S1 for a little more than $500 off, totaling to $900 and change?
or a Teac TN-550 for $200 off, for around $620?

I like the look of the Teac way more, of course, but I want something I can keep around for years. So I'll sacrifice cute for comfort.

Metal records! I just got my Sleepytime Gorilla Museum records in!

The liner notes are well worth reading:

quote:

"When the afternoon crowd began to assemble for the Museum opening on June 22nd, 1916, they were greeted by an old building billowing smoke, with various objects being thrown from the windows: paintings, stacks of pamphlets, and burning boxes of what appeared to be U,S, bills but when rescued turned out to have an engraving of a snail where the president should be, The bills incited a near-riot until the fire department arrived and quenched the blaze while theatrically costumed vendors sold food and drink to the growing crowd, accepting only the snail money.

This 'disaster' became a model for for later 'exhibits' in which the Museum deftly juggled public spectacle, self-destruction, dissemination of ideas, a bake sale, and the law."

that said I have a loving spooky sound effects record I listen to around Halloween, so who am I to judge.

Not strictly a "video game soundtrack" but Slagsmålsklubben is, or can be, pretty good. Influences aside, I would make a distinction between the two, both in merit and embarrassment.

Also I want to post this album I just heard

Along with the Hotline Miami soundtrack, I think it's safe to assume that the licensed stuff fairs better.

I'd buy the poo poo out of a Katamari vinyl. And it'd be the easiest gimmick in all the cosmos to make it katamari-shaped, too.

Or even better: make a second even more limited edition shape that's the King of Cosmos' face. Talk to me Namco, I got ideas on how to make you lots of money.

This would own.

I've been sorely tempted by that Rez soundtrack but it's a little out of my price range.

Maybe they'll release soundtracks to old Sierra adventure games someday?
