The Revival are the lynchpin of the division until they get some more tag teams over. I have to say they've done a pretty good job building up the Australian Mean Girls in the meantime. It's not quite the same as before because Asuka's still clearly the major favorite, but they're finally starting to build a new crop in the division after stalling out for a while. They're building Ember slower than I thought they would, but Nikki Cross is becoming more prominent lately, and I can see Daria gaining a lot of momentum soon. Her ring style is really cool and she's not a bad promo. Liv and Aliyah still have a ways to go though.

I'm really surprised Daria isn't getting pushed a lot faster. Her MMA gimmick is cool, she seems like a legitimate tough girl who could go 1 on 1 with Asuka and she has a good look overall. They have a lot of good talent in the women's division still, they just haven't had time to grow. What they really need is some of the lower card main roster women to come down and do some matches with these girls. They used to do that every now and then previously with people like Titus, Brodus and I think RVD had a match with Neville? That could really help legitimize some of the talent.

Yeah I suggested that a while back. Nattie vs. Charlotte was really good and helped both of them, so it would be nice to see something similar. But apparently the main roster talent sees it as punishment, which is ridiculous considering it helped Nattie and Tyson when he did it.

The idea of main roster veterans appearing on NXT for special matches to bring up the NXT trainees seems like its kind of made redundant when you have guys like Nakamura, Joe, Roode, Aries, Strong, etc competing regularly. And didn't they just bring Mickie James in to work with Asuka? And hell, Asuka's a seasoned vet and indie star herself. She's not a trainee like Charlotte was or Daria/Liv are.

Doesn't help that the dynamic they have is very similar to Emma and Dana's. Those two were never presented as a threat and jobbed cleanly without getting appreciable offense in. No one is a real threat to Asuka, she's Hogan. If she gets pinned, the pop will be muted. And none of the heels are over enough to pin one another and get heat out of losing the title that way.

And didn't they just bring Mickie James in to work with Asuka? The problem is that Asuka can't convincingly lose right now. They had to make San Antonio a Fatal Fourway to make it even possible for her to lose. They did the same thing to Charlotte, but the opponents she had already had some heat behind them, so it wasn't a problem. Can you imagine Billie Kay as NXT Women's Champion? Hell, Nikki Cross is the only one who might be able to do it, but her gimmick appears to be screaming angry woman, which is basically what Asuka is right now. Putting Ember, Daria or and/or Cross over against Summer Rae/Naomi/Alicia Fox/other women they aren't using etc. could let them beat someone they aren't utilizing on the main roster while still getting a rub for beating a veteran and, hopefully, give them some momentum going forward against Asuka. Cross would also need to get a little more character.

Nikki Cross is currently the only semi-credible contender to Asuka, everyone else just doesn't have the aura or style to match up well against her. I'd even go as far as saying Ember Moon isn't a great Asuka opponent even though people are claiming it's a dream match. Great Asuka opponents are mostly from Japan. Meiko Satamura & Io Shirai are both all-around types (Shirai more aerial and Satamura more ground/striking based) that are probably Asuka's best matches Hikaru Shida & Syuri are both shoot-fighter types with past history with Asuka and a good style match-up. Syuri is a great kickboxer and Shida is a bit bigger than Asuka. Makoto & Kaori Hojo play great sympathetic babyfaces that could make a great title chase, much like Bayley but with a language barrier. Hojo has one of the best looking moves in pro wrestling today, and Makoto can take an unreal rear end whooping and gain a lot of sympathy Most of the American wrestlers that would have matches up with her are retired or way past their prime right now. I don't know if WWE are interested in Candace LaRae but she's the absolute best unsigned NA talent that could give her a great match. Asuka is a really big fish in a small pond in NXT right now with a Goldberg-esque aura to her and nobody credible to challenger her. I think the best way of dealing with her is by writing her out via story to give time to build credibility, or do a story type where she's in a three-way and the women band together against her because they know she can't be beaten on her own so the whole women's roster turns against her. If they want to do some stalling to build up new talent, Gail Kim, Mickie James 2, or Sara Del Ray could be decent choices to stall her. That's why losing Alexa and somewhat Carmella really hurt. Not because they were booked powerfully in NXT, but they were solid midcarders that Nikki or the mean girls or Ember Moon could have beaten to build up heat for an Asuka feud. I am looking forward to Nikki-Asuka, but that's only because I liked her before NXT and not really anything she has done here yet. NXT isn't really the place to have an undefeatable champion for this long, as we all know Asuka should be on the main roster.

You know, this is probably the first time since they started pairing NXT Takeovers with big four PPVs that I'm more hyped for the WWE show than the NXT one. I know it's the Royal Rumble and despite the recent booking of Rumble matches it's hard not to be excited but even still, I'm more interested in Cena/Styles and even Reigns/Owens than anything on Takeover. I think the only thing I'm hyped for is seeing Roode and Nakamura's entrances tbh.

Just went to an NXT live show. Asuka was very good, the other girls were very not good. Nikki needs to calm down. Ember Moon was okay. But more importantly THE DRIFTER owned & got a huge (negative) response. He played the opening to freebird after people shouted it at him. In a just world Nakamura, Joe, et cetera would all be on raw and THE DRIFTER would be a Bo Dallas esque NXT champion
