When I was in China last a local Beijing TV station started doing a "man on the street" style interview with a member of my wedding party while showing my guests around the city. At first, the interview was normal asking where he was from, what he thought of china, all very touristy stuff. Then, after about 6 fluff questions the next question was a two part "Do you recognize the incredible and unbelievable sacrifices the CCP made to single-handedly defeat the Japanese during WWII and do you think Japan can ever truly atone for the unforgiveable atrocities they committed against the Chinese people?" He backed away without saying another word.

Alaska is embarrassing to teach about because the Japanese invaded, then left before the American response force showed up (because the islands were useless frozen rocks and the whole point was to plant a Japanese flag on American soil), then the Navy bombarded empty islands for a while and a bunch of guys died during the landings from accidents or friendly fire. Not exactly America's finest hour.

The 'Giant Bottle Opener' was originally going to have a circle at the top but people started complaining about Japan's Rising Sun looming over China. So they had to redesign the building during construction. LOL

plenty of american skylines have ugly buildings. Every time I drive towards dallas I'm reminded of that. But nothing in this country looks as ridiuclously terrible as that beijing skyline, i'm sorry. We may have individual buildings in competition with individual buildings in beijing but the overall failure of the skyline, there's no american competition.
