friendly reminder that all y'all may well like Escape from Tarkov, seems to scratch some stalker itches. no mutants or artifacts, but everything else seems compelling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok1lWEq2Q-Q

MadBimber posted:upon further inspection, there may or may not be beyond misery levels of inventory management You can add or remove muzzle thread covering nuts. You can take off the dust cover. You can take off the stock to make it maneuver better in close quarters. Look at some of the videos, there are over a dozen customization areas. It's ridiculous. I always liked the people shooting parts of stalker best, so I'm excited by this.

Weapon customization is fine if the weapons are fun to use and it doesn't take longer to customize them than you spend playing the game. Sorting through 80 tiny inventory icons that provide incredibly specific and non-obvious effects that you can only find out by mousing over them, such as repairing semi-automatic weapons of three specific calibers by 2% but only if they are over 78% condition already, is not fine. Misery believes time spent staring at a menu and micromanaging icons is immersive. It is not immersive.

I'd like Misery but the rarity of saving plus the length of time it takes to get anywhere and do anything seems masochistic. I see the appeal, but I can't spend great amounts of time doing it all.

It doesn't change anything about how you can save though? And good thing too because it loves to instakill you through thick fog from 500 meters away by dudes who can survive a headshot from a sniper rifle.

That's definitely not a restriction of misery 1.0 or 2.0, sounds like something call of misery did. I certainly wouldn't put up with that either

I think you can have a look at gameplay settings and sort that out? Ill have a look. Options in the main menu has a bunch of settings in gameplay, scroll down until you find show weapon and so on. or just try restarting then go back to the save.. staberind fucked around with this message at 03:42 on Jan 9, 2017 |

So whats the deal with OGSE these days? Looks like the group has fractured and people are fighting over mod ownership, downloading various versions seems to have disappeared as a result Trying to get 0692 again and chrome is blocking the download saying the file is malicious

Dumb question time. I keep hearing about call of misery but can't find the link for it. I assumed it was on ModDB but doesn't seem to be the case and google just gives me a link to an english translation.

Is there any good reason to go to the obelisk in open world CoC? And what's this about a red forest compass?

When I went there in CoC the shimmering effects that are supposed to tell you how to go so you don't get teleported back weren't there. But yeah, there is indeed a special artifact in red forest that is worth exploring to find.

The compass is cool and good. I tried out Call of Misery but it was too ugly. I need to improve the textures a bit. The compass is :In the mine tunnel,on the edge of the map. staberind fucked around with this message at 06:53 on Jan 17, 2017 |

the sequence is new but the concept of "just run through every row until all the sparklies light up" remains the same. also the heart of the oasis kind of sucks. maybe it did in vanilla too? i can't even remember i just did the usual thing of loading up artifacts for infinite sprint

Not needing food isn't nearly as cool as it sounds. Food isn't that hard to come by, and even if you're never ever killing or looting or finding stashes, all of which have ample food, then people will happily sell it to you for just a few rubles. Definitely worth hocking the heart of the oasis to the scientists for the money and for their undying loyalty to you. The other benefits aren't that great.

I'm pretty sure misery 2.0 threw a massive crippling downside (impractical amount of radiation?) on the heart of the oasis, because of course it did

Has anyone here had any luck compiling the x-ray engine over at https://github.com/OpenXRay/xray-16 ? I wanted to perhaps pick off some easy bugs or tidy up stuff, then try and debug why stalker hates the steam overlay... But the code straight from the dev branch in VS 2015 wont compile, complaining about not being able to find many libs like lzo* and others.
