I can see how it would come off as amateurish listing settings. I am still very much learning, so personally I find it useful when they are listed.

I don't mind gear listing as long as it's purely for information. Captioning with exposure data, equipment, and if film the process used can be helpful for people just learning or exploring different styles.

That guy is up himself so he would be listing it for the wank factor but its normal on that page to post settings. God help you if you ask about their post processing though.

I feel super self-conscious right now since I always post my gear/settings with my shots (outside of this forum). I had no idea people considered it a "red flag". :(

Its their attitude thats the red flag.

Hey guys took my 5d out for a walk tonight, pretty proud of this shot. Settings were 1/125 f6 ...

A lot of dudes are real wanky about it but that doesnt mean its wanky itself. If you link from flickr people can go to the page and its laid out nicely underneath, which saves you the effort too.

Gear tagging is useful when you want to google examples of photos taken with a certain sensor or a certain lens in certain scenarios. So it's not a hard and fast rule to avoid doing it. It's all about the guy's attitude, yeah.

It's also great for educational use / learning how someone possibly achieved the results they did. I think it bothers me more when people intentionally "hide" how they did something, like it's a magical secret and you're not allowed to see what I did because :hurr: it was all photoshop or something like that.

To be fair, the iPhone camera is pretty decent... but uhh, not compared to the other gear he's using as an ego-stroker.

Also it looks like he might be just be rapid firing on auto with the 5D without even looking, and using his phone as the A cam. What a guy. Can't wait to see his 2000 photo Flickr gallery in HDR.

Well if you want to shoot wide but are a pleb who doesn't own two bodies, why not whip out an iPhone? Saves you fussing with lenses and maybe missing some action while rooting in your bag.

I wouldn't do it, but I can see the thinking.

Yeah, and for all we know he could be livestreaming to FB or something, and grabbing extra BTS video with his GoPro, but all of this... #facepalm

The gopro wasn't running. He had the setup ready to go for his end-of-parade BASE jump from the Snoopy balloon onto the float with the paper-mache Statue of Liberty on it.

When you're out taking photos with film from lomography that's purposefully designed to look defective, holding the camera level is going completely against your aesthetic.
