For that Chelsea side tho? You really think that side make just under 1/10th of the best premier league players of all time?

Hashtag Banterzone posted:

It's still as close as any premier league club has ever come to having a side full of world famous footballers. There have certainly been better performing sides, but that XI is straight out of some kid's FM or FIFA save.

idk about this I never played Essien at right back and I'd probably say the opposition side was just as famous if not more on that day

The treble squad really wasn't that packed full of big names. A generous list would include Schmeichel, Stam, Cole, Sheringham, Yorke, Keane and Solksjaer. In terms of "top 100 famous prem" I'd pare that down to Schmeichel, Stam (maybe?) and Cole, and add in Beckham, Scholes and Giggs who were homegrown.

For every superstar in the lineup there was a May, Butt, Blomqvist, Berg, Johnsen..

Eh idk when you think about it, going from when football was invented in 1992, you're going to be including large portions of sides that were good for a number of years. And from that team, Terry, Lampard, A. Cole, Ballack, and Makelele are all shoe-ins. After that there's a bunch of players who are probably in the mix. So I think it might be a bit of a stretch, but I'm not sure it's all that crazy.

Ballack was shite, thats like including Schweinsteiger cause of his past.

I'd agree on the other 4 and Cech

idk if Carvalho, Ballack and Essien made enough appearances be very high on anyone's "best of the PL" list (Essien had the most with 168) but they were still huge names in world football

Agreed, but the tone of the original post was biggest names (not best players as everyone's discussing) bought up Galacticos style. I even added them (with that caveat) in the next sentence.

If its biggest names Id debate it even more tbh, outside of the 5 I said earlier I dont think any of the others are big names. Malouda, Joe Cole, Carvalho, Essien. I dont think they'd get in the biggest names o play in the premier league.

The 96/97 Chelsea side had bigger names imo

The criteria was top 100. Essien would easily be on that list. Premier League hasn't been around for that long.

I can think of 20 bigger names at chelsea alone than him

Lampard, Terry, Dogba, Cole, Cech, Hazard, Courtois, Makelele, Zola, Gullit, Desailly, Di Matteo, Vialli, Mata, Wise, Petrescu, Robben, Hughes, Le Saux, Hasselbaink.

Easily get 80 more in the prem. I could probably get 80 more just from United, Arsenal and Liverpool. 83 if I included Boro players

Diego Armando Maradona is like a soccer God for many Argentines. In fact he even has his own church - Maradonian - and some come to believe that Diego may have special powers. In this case, a young man who was in a vegetative state in 2013 listened to the commentary of Victor Hugo Morales in the first goal against the English (The Hand of God), and at that moment he could gesture and move an arm, something which he could not do.
