Sanae proved herself to be the best in LoLK because while every other pc was told what was going on and were just following the orders of some ex-moon jerk, Sanae was the only one who acted like a real touhou and just kinda bumbled into the story without really knowing anything. Then she beat up everyone in her way, accomplished her dream of going to space, stopped an evil moon plot and an evil hell plot, insulted God's fashion sense, and went home without ever understanding what the gently caress was going on. She's great.

The SDM crew don't really even fit all that well with the rest of the setting, they're the last grasps of Zun just throwing whatever he wanted at the wall and seeing what sticks. Which makes their popularity a little annoying.

The SDM crew is pretty cool I think. Less cool than a bunch of other characters but cool enough that I am not upset they're popular. hosed up that EoSD always takes the first 2 positions in the music poll though! Come on, Septette and UN Owen are pretty good but there's better tracks!

Any contrast regarding the SDM with the rest of the Touhou setting was done on purpose and was the entire premise of EoSD. So, they're good characters. Except Flandoor.

Frandle has a nice color scheme and cool wings, and her theme has lead to a lot of people checking out the games. She doesn't have half the pathos or dialogue that Koishi has, but Koishi is #3 so I guess there is some justice in the world.

She's pretty funny in HM and ULiL, and y'know tragic past and all. However, i'm still mad at her popularity because it's the only reason Hartmann's Youkai Girl is rank 3 in the music poll and it's not that good.
