TheAgent posted:guess its the last holdouts of actual devs who had previous management experience on titles The problem with experienced game developers is that when you yell REALLY HARD them to do something, they feel entitled to tell you their pointless opinions. Generally dumb things like "That's not how netcode works" or "The engine absolutely cannot support that" or "That's a bad use of our limited time and budget." They might also have ideas of their own, which is like letting the parking attendant suggest menu items to the celebrity chef. And worst of all, experienced game developers can potentially get jobs elsewhere. But if you get all of your game developers straight out of college, all of those problems go away. They can't claim to know for sure what's impossible and they don't have any other job offers, so when you yell at them to do it, they'll just say "YES SIR" and scurry back to their desk to put a layer of code over everything or mesh some servers or whatever it is people like that do when you can't spare the time to hover over their shoulder and yell at them about your vision or make suggestions based on things you vaguely remember from the '90s or present them with challenges that you're pretty sure have only never been solved because nobody's been yelled at hard enough to solve them yet.

I finally opened the Vive I got for Christmas from the SO, booted up ED and I don't think SC can ever reach that kind of fidelity ED has in VR. Everyone would start puking from CRobits awesome animations before they can appreciate their overpriced ships.

Fain80 posted:What story is this? Tell me moar? A goon was pretending to be a Vietnam vet named Leonard Skinly and trolling CIG with transparently fake encouragement on twitter. For some reason or another Derek saw this and decided he was going to take this guy down (apparently he takes Stolen Valor scams especially seriously?), and then liveposted throughout his investigation about how he and his people were looking into the matter, because of course he did. What he didn't realize was that the goon was also liveposting in this thread about how Derek started going after him on twitter and threatening to investigate his claims and how hilarious it was that Derek didn't realize it was him. Because, for some reason or another, D_Smart had put that goon on his ignore list some time before then. Cue a few hours of unintentional comedy where Derek getting very excited at how he caught a stolen valor scammer in the act who, as icing, was also supposedly a Star Citizen, while at the same time the person behind the stolen valor account was basically saying, "Hey, I did it. It was me all along, Derek. Here's the proof." And people were trying to explain to Derek what was actually going on but he wasn't having any of it, he just kept going and going while the thread collapsed into laughter around him. Good times.

TrustmeImLegit posted:Guys listen, I know SQ42 wasn't all it was cracked up to be (I personally loved it), but this a first time outing from a rookie studio. Its not really fair to give them so much grief over this. Subsequent games as the team becomes more cohesive should be much better! I have to disagree with you. I personally enjoyed every second of it. From the tutorial three hour cutscene where Hamill "Old Man" gave his riveting 'y'all poor fool newbies' to the first sighting of the Vanduul ship with that $50 DLC in game warning. I personally thought it was so cool that I could read my credit card to the mother ship and actually watch them charge me over the com. During the first gameplay segment 4 hours in, it was the best 30 seconds of gameplay of any AAA game. When I looked around during that shuttle ride, I was literally in space. It made me feel insignificant. When I finally beat the Prelude after 10 hours, I was totally ready for another 20 minutes of gameplay like the game offered me. I was wowed and floored. The acting, the memorable characters (lol Derek Tasmr!) and the cutting edge graphics the likes of which 2007 is jealous of... I'm soooo stoked for Sq42 Part 1! Can't wait for the Pusher romance line to evolve too. My bald male character is soooo ready to get it on with her that I can't stand it! The acting was top notch! It was like I was literally watching Pornhub! Come on Part 1! Prelude was awesomeness! Can't wait for more!!! 11/10!!
