Yeah, but winning an election is a pretty different animal from enacting a legislative agenda that most Republicans (and a few Democrats) in Congress vehemently oppose.

As we saw with Obama, unfortunately.

For those involved in Democratic Party politics, are you guys starting to see the left go "all in" like the Right did in 2009?

In 2009 the Right began doing the following:

- Started the teaparty. One umbrella group for all grass roots activists on the Right.
- Constant protests/resistance/obstruction.
- Used every single media platform they controlled to blast Obama 24/7.
- Coordination between Think tanks, Lobbyists, GOP Politicians, Right-wing media and the grass roots to further their political goals.
- Used their media figures(Rush, Hannity, ect) to mobilize their grass roots to action, especially during state and mid-term elections.
- Targeting, shaming, and primarying Republicans who didn't get with the program.

I'm extremely lukewarm on TYT but I hope their Tea Party analogue gets off the ground for this reason. It was a fantastic model, I'm mad we didn't think of it first, and Lord knows we need it now

Yes, but one thing Bernie proved is that small-donor fundraising is extremely doable in the Internet era

It started astroturfed then became organic over time.

Regardless it worked, and by harnessing the energies of the grass roots the far-right was able to take over almost every office in America.

if you're interested in tea partying the democrats check out Our Revolution. I went to a meeting last night and that was pretty much the topic of the whole meeting "How can we do this and take inspiration from how the tea party did it."

Lol no the left is never ever going to agree on one group. But there is a lot of rallying behind Bernie Sanders.

So far so good.

Well yeah I guess so but media platforms controlled by the left don't have a wide audience.

No on this one, think tanks and lobbyists are the enemy

and all their unreasonable crazy talk, though it marginalized them, also resulted in a massive shift of the overton window rightward and effectively otherized a once broadly popular obama into the devil incarnate socialist kenyan muslim

eta: in terms of obstruction, republicans didnt hesitate to obstruct and describe in charged terms things they would otherwise probably have supported or less stridently opposed (Romneycare, Merrick Garland). if obama had proposed mom and apple pie, they would have derided moms as freeloading welfare queens and apple pie as the new pork, a symbol of government largess run amok

For me this is the big thing. We need people on the left who aren't worried about their image or how every sound byte will play. Not just the people in the streets, but the politicians as well need to play dirty and not be afraid of saying this or standing for that and being vocal about it. The tea party and the candidates they put forward were loving rude bullies, and democrats were like "ha we'll just make fun of them until they go away!" and now we're going to be living the tea party's wet dream. We need actual nasty women(and other people) getting loving nasty as gently caress.

Kshama Sawant in Seattle is a good example of the kind of politician the left needs. She's out in the streets, she's on the radio and sometimes she says poo poo that people make fun of her for or that the media calls her stupid on, she receives death threats from white supremacists but she doesn't quit. She's organizing activists to take on specific things and participate in marches. We need more Kshamas.

I'm on board with the idea behind a leftist tea-party, but do keep in mind that the most immediate effect the tea party had was to delay the republican retaking of the senate by a few cycles as they knocked out incumbents for extreme candidates that proceeded to lose their races. Tancredo in Colorado and the woman in Delaware that claimed to be an ex-satanist come to mind. Be prepared to see some short-term setbacks before real gains start to show.
